Overview

About the property

River front on the Shenandoah River, this cabin is gorgeous and relaxing

Eagle's Nest is a brand new purpose-built vacation rental that just opened in October 2017. It's near our Tree Top, Fish Trap and Green Castle cabins and, like them, is also river-front, sitting up high above the river with an area to walk down to the river's edge. It's part of an 18 acre "fish trap" location that was used by ancient American Indians hundreds of years ago.

Eagle's Nest is a large beautiful property with a modern beautiful exterior and interior. Hardwood floors, stainless appliances, flat-screen TVs - everything is new, luxurious and waiting for your personal enjoyment. The pictures capture some of the beauty, modern design, nature and open spaces. Take a look at those and drink it all in!

Something we're extra proud of - Eagle's Nest was built with disabled individuals in mind. From the front stoop to the wider doorways and low-entry showers/sinks, we did our best to accommodate wheelchairs. The house may not be perfect for every disabled individual - ask us about it if you're not sure - but it was considered heavily ahead of time and incorporated into the design.

In terms of size, Eagle's Nest can fit larger groups of 10 but would also work for a couple or small family. There are three (3) bedrooms and two (2) full bathrooms. The third bedroom is the large loft area you see in the living room pictures. There is a queen and two twin beds in that loft area. The main two bedrooms both have queen beds.

You're going to love your time here. As we work to enhance, expand and grow this property, we continue our mission to be your weekend river cabin of choice. Book now before your dates are gone!

Eagles Nest Pros and Cons

  • 2 of 5

This cabin is beautiful and the response time back from the owners was fast and professional. Unfortunately there were some issues with the stay.

Cons;

-The water from the sink and shower smelled like skunk. Probably the sulfur in the well water. We were unable to drink the water and showering was unpleasant.

-The flies inside and outside of the cabin were horrible. My morning activity was having a cup of coffee and swatting flies.

-The Wi-Fi was terrible. Most times we could not connect to the internet or make phone calls.

-Had to travel a couple of miles down the road every time we had garbage to throw out. The garbage dumpster was at the local canoe rental store

-The hot tub was filthy upon arrival. The owners did come by the next day to clean it. There is a sign in the cabin saying don't use cabin water to fill the hot tube. They brought water in a tank on the back of a pick-up truck. This speaks to the quality of the cabin water.

-The fire pit had two empty beer cans in it, I would have expected the pit to be cleaned.

-The dishwasher had a load of clean dishes. I did not appreciate showing up for vacation and the first thing we had to do was empty the dishwasher

-The BBQ was not in an ideal location. Had to go up and down the stairs to prepare meals.

Pro's

-Beautiful new cabin.

-Comfortable beds

-Beautiful views of the river from the deck

-Very nice owners and quick response time

-Great gas fireplace

This place has so much potential, but honestly there are too many issues to give more than a two star rating.

Owner's Response: We pride ourselves on cleaning and maintenance. We have looked into the hot tub and beer can type issues that Michael noted and believe it was a one time thing. Our hot tubs are always kept in good and clean working order. The water issue is also being looked at. The water composition may have changed recently and we are investigating the sulfur smell issue. This is typically not reported as a problem from Eagle's Nest cabin. This is one of the nicest water-front cabins you can rent in the entire Shenandoah Valley. With all due respect to Michael, it is not a 2 star cabin. His experience was very much an exception to the norm.

Nice home!!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for JMU graduation. It wasn't a bad drive to JMU, not too far. Nice to have a Wal-Mart less than 15 minutes away in case we forgot something. Canoes were fun. Nice sitting by the fire pit nightly.
