LOCATED IN THE GOLDEN TRIANGLE OF MONTECITO on the site of the legendary La Parra Grande, one of the world's largest grape vines in the 1870's, this luxury residence emulates the vines' beauty, size and strength. Situated within one mile of the spectacular Santa Ynez Mountains, the Pacific Ocean, and the Montecito Village, in five minutes you can walk from the front garden gate to access trail heads, the beach or shopping.

This multi-level 6,700 square foot Spanish styled home situated on 1.5 acres features carved and painted Moroccan doors, and antique Spanish terracotta floors throughout the interior. The house has a modern art collection as well as current and vintage photography. A whimsical North African, via Paris, chandelier of colored crystals twinkles in the afternoon sun through the 19th Century Italian glass and iron crafted entry doors.

The outdoor gardens, patios and pool offer numerous options for large parties or small gatherings featuring a 20’ x 15’ elevated gazebo. Speaker systems connect the indoor stereo to the exterior and there are separate power sources remote from the house for party lighting and music. The 18' x 38.5' Heated Pool with Automatic Cover is surrounded by meticulously maintained grounds, custom made Moroccan Lanterns, a mature wisteria arbor plus an abundance of fruit trees.

Enjoy al fresco dining on the upper terrace. This exterior entertainment area features a full kitchen with a 46” DCS gas grill and rotisserie, a 2-burner range, an under the counter refrigerator, a double sink with garbage disposal and ample stone topped counter space. The family table seats 8. Additional round tables to seat 150 people are stored in the garage. The gas generated natural 9’ stone fire pit is a warm, fun place to hang out.

The kitchen is professionally outfit with two side-by-side Sub-Zero refrigerators/freezers, two sinks (a shallow prep and a wide deep sink for washing), 6-burner Wolf gas range & double oven, broiler and grill plate, microwave, toaster oven, plumbed coffeemaker, hot/cold filtered drinking water. There are two Miele dishwashers, separate garbage and recycling bins, and an under counter kitchen aid mixer, Vitamix blender, Al-Clad stainless steel cookware, plus commercial grade tools and equipment. The kitchen counter tops are surfaced with honed-absolute black granite. Philippe Stark etched crystal Romeo Louis II Pendant lights illuminate the 10-foot long chopping block island creating diffused ambiance for family and friends cooking together.

The home features two exceptionally large rooms for convenient entertaining with cutlery, glassware, china, and linens available to serve 60 guests. The main 20’ x 30’ reception and dining room has garden views through the triple sets of French doors along the south wall leading to the exterior entertainment area and double glass doors that open to the adjacent media room. The table comfortably seats ten to twelve. The Louis XIII stone surround fireplace with gas ignition completes the Provencal dining ambiance.

The end of the formal dining room showcases a built-in bar with ample wine storage, barware, sink, separate ice maker, and microwave. In the adjacent 15’ x 21’ family media room there is a Samsung 55” wall mounted flat screen Smart TV, with surround sound, an Amazon Firestick, and a 9’ couch perfect for lounging.

The more formal living room 18’ x 22’ sits in seclusion – separated 4 steps down from the main hallway. This space is a romantic hideaway with a handcrafted fireplace, adjustable lighting, a 19th Century French crystal chandelier, ample seating and large French doors that lead to the flagstone patio and pool.

The centrally controlled Sonos sound system with individual room speaker controls as well as hand held remotes plays big sound through its all-in-one wireless music system. The lightening is adjustable in each room for mood levels. If you love reading, there is an extensive selection of architecture, interior design, travel and food magazines. There are novels for reading, photography and large format art books for perusing.

There are six bedrooms, 5 in suite bathrooms and 2 half-bathrooms. The master bedroom features a walk-in closet with generous shelving and drawers, French doors opening to a tiled patio and secluded garden. All the bedrooms have either King-size, Queen or X-long twin beds. There are additional televisions in the bedrooms. The linens are white high thread count with down comforters and pillows.

The house has five full and two half-bathrooms. The downstairs spa bathroom has marble walls/floors and a separate shower, a Ban Ultra Thermo Masseur tub and private commode. The master bathroom has a 6’ Kohler tub and separate water/spray fixtures, his and her sinks, a walk-in shower and private commode and bidet.

The upstairs wing doubles as secluded bedroom plus a private office space. This room has views of the mountains and is equipped with a multifunction color printer. The office furniture contains a 7’ Italian desk and credenza, bookshelves, and an Eames chair. This office configuration is duplicated in the downstairs bedroom which also has a 45” Samsung Smart TV. (Guests will supply their own computers.)

The garage parks three cars plus room for an additional 4 cars in the circular driveway. The radiant in-floor heating on all floors with individual room thermostats keeps your bare feet warm all year. The advanced water system features reverse osmosis drinking water with a two stage filter system, soft water for clean clothes and dishes plus instant hot in all the faucets. The internal fire protection sprinkler system is directly linked to the Montecito Fire Department and the security system with keypad entry in the main entrance and master bedroom are directly connected to Santa Barbara Security. The house functions seamlessly with its complete wireless cable network in all rooms.

There is a separate room for laundry facilities with a built-in ironing board, professional steam iron, plumbed deionized water, and an HE large capacity washer and dryer.

This home is super clean with a professionally designed and well maintained infrastructure.

I designed and built this home around memories of my grandparents home in Beverly Hills and their life style. Building materials were gathered throughout my international travels and shipped back to Montecito. The house has a modern art collection as well as current and vintage photography. I actively chose to move to Montecito from Los Angeles so my children could walk to school.

Why Joanne Hirsh chose Santa Barbara

This home is built on the site of the legendary La Parra Grande grape vine, one of the largest in the 1870's which was showcased at the 1876 Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia.

The design and infrastructure emulate the vine's beauty, size and strength. It is an outstanding tribute to the community's finest builders and craftsmen. The home has space for contemplation at the same time as the family is gathering in the kitchen and the kids are absorbed in out of doors.

What makes this house unique

La Parra Grande, The Big Grape Vine, became famous when planted as a slender stem in the early 1800's, it grew into a towering giant that lived and produced for most of a century. So great was its beauty, size, and strength, that it became famous around the globe, and was known as the Largest Grapevine in the World.

La Parra Grande was located in a small settlement that has become modern-day Montecito. (Today, Parra Grande Lane - marks the original neighborhood of the legendary vine.) The vine was nearing 100 years of age, and it began to reach the limits of its lifespan. In 1876, The Centennial Exposition was to be held in Philadelphia, and communities throughout America were asked to submit exhibits for the event. Santa Barbara's Dr. James Ord thought the enormous vine would be the perfect contribution, showcasing the extraordinary agricultural potential of Santa Barbara County. The grapevine was sawed into large pieces, boxed and shipped to the site of the Exposition, where it was re-assembled.
