Overview

About the property

Clean, stylish 3 bed villa, pool, BBQ + garden, private setting, great sea views

'Our family loved this fantastic villa in a magical spot. Mum and Dad came out first for week on their own and really enjoyed the peace and quiet. Then we arrived with our two children for the second week and the kids were in the pool all day and loving it.

We couldn´t fault the villa, it had absolutely everything we needed and was stylish and comfortable, a home from home. We enjoyed sitting on the terrace in the evenings, having just finished dinner, watching the sunset and looking out at the amazing views down to the sea. We also loved the pool deck which was large and like the villa immaculately clean. We remember the lovely Andalucian details built into the villa, like decorated tiles and ceilings with high beams.

It was also a good base for travelling around. We went to Nerja and Torrox beaches locally and we did day trips to Seville, Ronda and the Alhambra Palace in Granada which were all great. We loved it!'

The coastal town of Torre Del Mar is 15 minutes drive from the villa and has everything you could want on holiday. Banks, restaurants to suit all budgets and tastes, supermarkets, bars, chemists, clothes and shoe shops. Visit the colorful weekly market packed with local fruit, veg, bargain leather goods, clothes, handmade local gifts and much more then stroll along the promenade with tropical gardens alongside the beach.

The nearby historical town of Velez-Malaga also has all amenities but is more traditional, with winding streets, cathedrals, tapas bars, theaters, churches and many examples of typical Andalusian buildings. In between the two towns is a large indoor shopping center with 10 screen cinema, bowling, hypermarket and top stores such as Zara, Mango, Nike etc. Local activities include beach, horse riding, water park, golf, sailing, quad biking, country walks, snorkeling, diving, hang gliding, crocodile park, safari park, zoo, historical buildings, museums, aquarium.

Other Activities: Private yoga lessons

Golf: 18 hole Baviera Golf in Caleta de Velez, 15 minutes drive from the villa. Stunning course with excellent club facilities. Buggy hire optional.

Many other golf courses within 1 hour of the villa.

Ski: Granada ski resort in the Sierra Nevada, two hours drive away, easily reachable for a day´s skiing.

Enjoy visiting the real Spain! Arenas is a short drive away and is a traditional Pueblo Blanco or white village. You´ll fall in love with the tiny winding streets, the quaint village houses and of course the locals who always have a friendly greeting. Tourism hasn’t hit this village yet, and this is reflected in the prices, which are incredibly reasonable. A superb three course lunch can be had in Bar Juani for under 10 Euros, including a drink!

Arenas is famous in Europe for having the largest population of chameleons, whose color changing skills are magical to watch. The area is also famed for romantic historic tales of the clashes between the Christians and the Moors. The ruins of one Moorish castle can be seen from the villa.

The villa is perfectly placed to explore Andalusia.

Seville, Ronda, Marbella and Antequera are all easily reached for day trips. Malaga city is less than an hour away and has much to offer including the port, tropical gardens and historical quarter with the Pablo Picasso museum just one example of places of interest to visit. Granada is home to the famous Alhambra palace, full of Moorish influence and only two hours from the villa.

The well known picturesque town of Nerja is just 20 minutes away, well worth a visit with its internationally renowned caves where live concerts are held, stunning coves and beaches, and all kinds of shops, bars and restaurants. Take a horse drawn carriage tour to see the highlights of the old town.

Car Hire: Group B or above is recommended.

About Nina and James Hicks

Making the break and leaving the UK was a scary decision at the time but since arriving in this beautiful area of Spain we have loved every minute! Now, 16 years, two children, three dogs, two cats and two pot bellied pigs later, we are still in exactly the same spot with no thoughts of changing a thing. Waking up to the same gorgeous views every morning and drinking in the same gorgeous clear starry nights still takes our breath away.

Nina and James Hicks purchased this villa in 2000

Guestbook comments from the owner

We stayed in this beautiful villa for just one week and it was too short. We enjoyed the views and the peace and quiet. We also enjoyed sunbathing here while it was snowing in Holland. Nina and James are great hosts. We will be back, maybe later this year.

Paradise on the Costa Del Sol!

  • 5 of 5

This property was magical, the view was spectacular, the villa was spotlessly clean with everything you would need, the owners were very hospitable and very friendly and our children wanted to take George and Mini(the owners dogs) home. Our stay was very restful and relaxing and the pool was fantastic for us and our 3 children to have great fun in. We did many things in the surrounding area which were only a short drive from the villa. We would definitely recommend this villa, you will love it! We will 100% be back.

Amazing location & breathtaking views. Perfect for a relaxing holiday!

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing two week stay at Villa Camaleon! It’s location is amazing, and although the short drive up the mountain was hair-raising to begin with (we didn’t arrive until midnight), we soon got used it. The views are unlike anything else and the fact it’s remote means we really had chance to switch off and relax during our stay.

The nearest town is only a short 10-15 minute drive away, which is great when you need to get food shopping, visit the beach or go for a nice meal (thoroughly recommend Safari Loung in Torre Del Mar). A little further is Nerja, which is only 40 minutes away, which has beaches, shops, markets and tourist attractions like the Caves.

The villa itself is clean, well equipped and clearly well maintained with the added bonus of excellent WiFi! There was 6 adults in our party and plenty of room for all of us. We spent most of our time in the pool area, which looks out onto incredible views of the mountains and coastline. The hammocks and day bed were also a big hit with us and perfect for getting a bit of shade after a day in the sun.

It was a novelty to be able to sit on the terrace/porch area in the evening and enjoy a BBQ and a few drinks. More often than not we were joined by James and Nina’s two dogs, Mini and George, who were great company for us (they don’t come inside the villa).

James and Nina were the perfect hosts and really made our stay! They live just underneath the villa, but you would never know they were there. They were really helpful, friendly and attentive throughout our stay, giving us tips of things to do and places to visit - for example, walking to the top of the mountain where the villa is situated, where the views are out of this world! If you’re looking for a chilled out, relaxing break in the sun then I would thoroughly recommend staying at villa Camaleon. We’ll definitely be returning very soon!

Perfect for a relaxing holiday

  • 5 of 5

We selected this villa for its remote location, beautiful website photos and great reviews. On arrival, we were NOT disappointed. The villa is clean and well maintained, adequately equipped and set in beautifully maintained grounds. The pool area is gorgeous, and any stress brought from home and work, soon evaporated through relaxing by the pool and taking in the mountain and sea views which are ever changing throughout the day. The property is very private with James and Nina on hand if required but always respecting our privacy. The house and pool area we felt were safe for our adventurous 5-year-old girl whose swimming improved no end during our stay and she loved the daily visits from George and Minnie the dogs, who were very friendly and never a nuisance.

The location is remote, but easily accessible with a half decent hire car and Nina’s concise instructions, and despite its location, a quick trip into Velez-Malaga for the daily loaf is a breeze. When we could tear ourselves away from the Villa, Granada was within easy reach for a bit of culture, but other than a bit off shopping to stock up on supplies, we were very happy to pass a very enjoyable week at Villa Camaleon. Highly recommended!

Glorious location with incredible views.

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic stay at the villa. The location is incredibly peaceful and the views are stunning. Our daughter (and we) loved the two dogs and feeding the pigs down the hill. When it got a bit chilly at night the wood-burning stove was just the job. The picturesque location of the pool was breathtaking, as was the temperature of the water (we were here in April)!

Fabulously relaxing villa with stunning views

  • 5 of 5

This villa is an absolute gem in the most stunning location. The first drive up the mountain (following Nina) in the dark was a hair-raising experience. But when we awoke the next day to the breath-taking view it made it well worth it. During the rest of the week the drive up & down was a source of amusement in the car more than a problem.

The Villa was spotlessly clean & had everything you could possibly need for the week (and a few others things that I found on the last day when I was clearing everything up). In fact it was much better equipped than most villas I have stayed in.

Quick tip :- check ALL the wardrobe cupboards as there are some helpful items in them.

The pool area was lovely with the most spectacular view. The pool isn't heated & it took a bit of getting used to when you first get in but it really isn't an issue, we spent many hours playing about in the pool.

An added bonus for the week were Georgie & Minnie (Nina & James' 2 dogs). They were clearly quite good at working our meal times & popped up for breakfast lunch & dinner most days. They even had a little sing & dance with us one night. Both very well behaved though & do not enter the house. They also have a couple of pigs which welcome any left over food you may have.

Exploring the local area from here was easy. once you tackle the 10 min drive down the mountain you are very close to the main road. From here you can reach several of the local areas within 30 mins. We visited Nerja, Torrox, Torre Del Mar and I also did a few magical mystery tours which is a favourite pastime of mine and my sons. (drive and see where you end up). If we had been here for longer I would have travelled further but the main point of this holiday was too relax & we certainly achieved that. There were 4 members of my group myself, my 12 year old son & some friends (a couple). The layout of the villa gave us all some privacy if we needed it & you could sit on the terrace (dining area) with a glass of wine & not be overlooking the pool area. So on some days we were able to do our own thing here very easily & never felt on top of each other.

Nina was very helpful although not intrusive & although their villa is just below the pool area you could easily forget they were there.

Book this villa and you will marvel at every sunrise and sunset and have the most relaxing holiday you can imagine and I would recommend it without question.

Thanks Nina for all your help and I hope to return on day
