Overview

Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday villa in Axarquia (Costa del Sol) - Villa Camaleon

Clean, stylish 3 bed villa, pool, BBQ + garden, private setting, great sea views

'Our family loved this fantastic villa in a magical spot. Mum and Dad came out first for week on their own and really enjoyed the peace and quiet. Then we arrived with our two children for the second week and the kids were in the pool all day and loving it.

We couldn´t fault the villa, it had absolutely everything we needed and was stylish and comfortable, a home from home. We enjoyed sitting on the terrace in the evenings, having just finished dinner, watching the sunset and looking out at the amazing views down to the sea. We also loved the pool deck which was large and like the villa immaculately clean. We remember the lovely Andalucian details built into the villa, like decorated tiles and ceilings with high beams.

It was also a good base for travelling around. We went to Nerja and Torrox beaches locally and we did day trips to Seville, Ronda and the Alhambra Palace in Granada which were all great. We loved it!'

The coastal town of Torre Del Mar is 15 minutes drive from the villa and has everything you could want on holiday. Banks, restaurants to suit all budgets and tastes, supermarkets, bars, chemists, clothes and shoe shops. Visit the colorful weekly market packed with local fruit, veg, bargain leather goods, clothes, handmade local gifts and much more then stroll along the promenade with tropical gardens alongside the beach.

The nearby historical town of Velez-Malaga also has all amenities but is more traditional, with winding streets, cathedrals, tapas bars, theaters, churches and many examples of typical Andalusian buildings. In between the two towns is a large indoor shopping center with 10 screen cinema, bowling, hypermarket and top stores such as Zara, Mango, Nike etc. Local activities include beach, horse riding, water park, golf, sailing, quad biking, country walks, snorkeling, diving, hang gliding, crocodile park, safari park, zoo, historical buildings, museums, aquarium.

Other Activities: Private yoga lessons

Golf: 18 hole Baviera Golf in Caleta de Velez, 15 minutes drive from the villa. Stunning course with excellent club facilities. Buggy hire optional.

Many other golf courses within 1 hour of the villa.

Ski: Granada ski resort in the Sierra Nevada, two hours drive away, easily reachable for a day´s skiing.

Enjoy visiting the real Spain! Arenas is a short drive away and is a traditional Pueblo Blanco or white village. You´ll fall in love with the tiny winding streets, the quaint village houses and of course the locals who always have a friendly greeting. Tourism hasn’t hit this village yet, and this is reflected in the prices, which are incredibly reasonable. A superb three course lunch can be had in Bar Juani for under 10 Euros, including a drink!

Arenas is famous in Europe for having the largest population of chameleons, whose color changing skills are magical to watch. The area is also famed for romantic historic tales of the clashes between the Christians and the Moors. The ruins of one Moorish castle can be seen from the villa.

The villa is perfectly placed to explore Andalusia.

Seville, Ronda, Marbella and Antequera are all easily reached for day trips. Malaga city is less than an hour away and has much to offer including the port, tropical gardens and historical quarter with the Pablo Picasso museum just one example of places of interest to visit. Granada is home to the famous Alhambra palace, full of Moorish influence and only two hours from the villa.

The well known picturesque town of Nerja is just 20 minutes away, well worth a visit with its internationally renowned caves where live concerts are held, stunning coves and beaches, and all kinds of shops, bars and restaurants. Take a horse drawn carriage tour to see the highlights of the old town.

Car Hire: Group B or above is recommended.

About Nina and James Hicks

Making the break and leaving the UK was a scary decision at the time but since arriving in this beautiful area of Spain we have loved every minute! Now, 15 years, two children, three dogs, two cats and two pot bellied pigs later, we are still in exactly the same spot with no thoughts of changing a thing. Waking up to the same gorgeous views every morning and drinking in the same gorgeous clear starry nights still takes out breath away.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We stayed in this beautiful villa for just one week and it was too short. We enjoyed the views and the peace and quiet. We also enjoyed sunbathing here while it was snowing in Holland. Nina and James are great hosts. We will be back, maybe later this year.

Excellent Villa with Stunning Views

  • 5 of 5

We spent a truly delightful week at Villa Camaleon. The location is perfect with amazing views down to the coast, is totally private and not overlooked.

We were met by our hosts Nina & James who guide you the last couple of kilometres to the villa (to make sure you find it!) There are some reviews which mention the road up to the villa once you leave the main road and yes, it is quite steep in places and has a few places where it is a track but for the most part is a made-up road. Having stayed in several villas in Andalucía, this is normal. We have certainly encountered far worse and had no problem with it at all.

The villa itself was well maintained, immaculately clean with excellent decor throughout. The bedrooms were spacious and comfortable and the bathroom, shower and towels were all good quality. The pay-as-you-go air conditioning is effective and cheap to run.....we used it in the evenings and only spent about 8 euros during the whole week.

We cooked at the villa all week and the kitchen has most of your everyday needs. There was salt, pepper, sugar, olive oil etc but if you are intending to cook everyday at the villa you may want to check with the owners as to what is there ahead of your visit so you can plan accordingly. There are plenty of good quality glass tumblers and wine glasses (although some plastic tumblers and bowls for snacks by the pool would be a great addition!) We used the outside dining area every evening and is perfect for watching the sun go down. Make sure you buy your charcoal / firelighters before you get to the villa if you intend using the BBQ – we used it a couple of times and it was great, and is easily cleaned before you leave.

The pool area was excellent and feels like an infinity pool. It’s a good size, very clean and although not heated, was a nice temperature even in early June. There were good quality sun-beds and the covered area with a bed and hammocks was a nice touch.

Overall, we had a wonderful time at Villa Camaleon and Nina and James are the perfect hosts (thank you both). Their communication was excellent throughout and they were close by and available if you needed them but otherwise you were left alone. Their dogs were lovely and occasionally came up to say hello – we’ll miss them! If you are looking for somewhere to totally relax, in peaceful surroundings in an excellent villa, you won’t be disappointed. We certainly weren’t and hope to go back again sometime soon.

Great villa, great pool, great views

  • 5 of 5

Wow, what a place! This holiday beat all our expectations. The villa was super clean and beautiful throughout... the pool area is huge... and well, the views are the best I have ever seen in Spain. Our favourite part was sleeping outside on the day bed. There´s no light pollution at all so the stars are incredible. Perfect peace and quiet. Thought Torre del Mar was a fab seaside town, loads of restaurants to choose from and a wide beach. We hadn´t visited this part of Spain before and will recommend the villa and area to our friends and family. Thanks to the owners for a brilliant vacation, we will come back!

Romantic getaway, joined by the family!!!

  • 4 of 5

Had a wonderful time at the Villa. It was very clean, and I love the open plan layout of the living area, where as a family we were all together. The pool area was fantastic and the day bed, an amazing addition. You can not talk about Villa Chameleon without mentioning the views. They are outstanding and you will never tire of looking out. Then at night the stars are amazing. Which brings me to the road up to the Villa. We hired a decent car and had no real trouble getting up there, although its not easy, the car managed fine.

It is definitely worth the drive.

On our first night we ate out in Padre Mio in Torre Del Mar, it is well worth a visit as is Safari. Visiting Nerja and Ronda is a must as they are very different, but beautiful.

Nina and James are always on hand to help if needed, but do not intrude in any way.

Beautiful!!!

  • 4 of 5

The villa is beautiful and exceptionally clean. We had such a nice relaxing week. On top of the mountain and away from the hustle and bustle. It has everything you need and more. The view are breath taking. The hosts are very nice people and live close by if needed.

I only gave it a 4 because the road to the villa is not for the faint hearted. It is extremely steep, gravelled in places and has many sharp turns and it take quite some getting used to. It might appeal to thrill seekers though and the views along the way are beautiful though.

Owner's Response: Thank-you for your kind comments about Villa Camaleon. I am happy to announce that the road has now been hugely improved thanks to a hefty investment from the local government.

Peaceful and idyllic - a taste of paradise!

  • 5 of 5

This is a delayed review due to being extremely busy since returning but one that had to be wrote none-the-less; apologies to the hosts!

We arrived at the villa 05/10/15 and were greeted by James by the villa's pool. A very polite and welcoming gentleman who was more than happy to help us up to the villa with the essentials we had bought from the El Ingenio shopping centre on the way, as helpfully advised in the directions provided upon booking. The road up to the villa is a very adventurous journey indeed; one for the faint of heart to prepare for but please in no way let it hinder you from reaching the idyllic property waiting for you at the top! Personally, as the driver, I loved it!

The villa was spacious, clean and well presented. The views were spectacular, for the first couple of hours I couldn't stop myself from going back to the windows to have another look whilst organising our luggage and shopping. We still miss those views but thankfully have plenty of pictures to remind ourselves of where we relaxed for a week, but in no way does the location any justice. You've got to be there to truly appreciate how extremely serene it is.

The outside bed and hammocks were certainly a novelty for us and a very nice touch to the villa. Pool was lovely and slightly on the cold side, but perfect for cooling off even after being in the early October sun. On the warmest day, the temperature still reached an impressive 34 degrees (in Nerja) and minimum being 18 degrees though this being on the last extremely foggy day. Overall however, we had a lot more sun than we had prepared for so we were happy.

There was only my wife and I on our holiday so made no use of the table tennis and bowls that were available to us yet still was nice to have the option. There is a decent amount of books and DVD's provided should you decide on a quiet night in the villa and a limited pick of English TV.

We both highly recommend this villa to anyone in search of a peaceful and relaxing holiday away from the usual hustle and bustle of a Spanish resort. You come away feeling refreshed and recharged ready to take on the world again. The only negative we had was getting in the car and coming down the mountain that one last time on the dreaded journey home to cold, rainy England!

Thanks again to the hosts for a very memorable, problem free holiday.
