The house is newly built on land that was once part of the grounds to the Hythe Imperial hotel. The hotel has a spa, leisure complex and a golf course. It is possible to purchase day passes to use these facilities.
When we arrived at the house, our expectations have been exceeded. What a wonderful house! The house was very light and well decorated. Everything we needed, and more, was there. It is big, very clean and cosy. We were lucky enough to meet the owners of the house, and they were very friendly and helpfull. In the house you will find lots of information about all the things to do in the area.
We had a great stay! The house felt like home and there were lots of things to do in the area. The nicest city, we found Canterbury. It is very handy to use the park and drive, just outside of the city. You can park your car here for 3 pound, and take a free bus to the center.
Worth visiting was the castle of Dover. You should visit the castle on a dry day, so that you can see a lot of the gardens and surroundings of the castle.
A cheap and very Englisch pub to eath was The Eight Bells, on the main street of Dover.
And then the beach.... It is not further then 5 minutes walk, and the beach is there. The beach is not a sand-beach, but there are only stones. So if you want to swim in the sea, we recommend to bring yourself shoes, which can be used in the water.
We will recommend this house to everyone. If we come back to this area in England, we will certainly return to this house!
The house was very comfortable, we had all we need and more! Hythe is a very nice and beautiful place to stay. From there we did a lot of daytrips: Dover Castle, White Cliffs of Dover, Beachy Head, Seven Sisters, Canterbury, Whistable, Port Lympne Wild Animal Parc, a picknick at the park and we took the Romney Hythe and Dymchurch Railway to Dungeness. We and our children (3, 5 and 7) had a great holiday and have seen the most beautiful places!
The house is spacious, bright, comfortable and ideally located for the beach (100yds) and attractive town (1/4 mile). It's set in the former grounds of the Imperial Hotel, which has a fitness center and 13 hole golf course. The house has a small balcony and an attractive garden with outdoor furniture, although the weather was a bit too chilly for us to use it.
The owners kindly helped us navigate our way to Hythe around "Operation Stack" and master the operation of all the house systems. The house was well equipped and perfectly clean.
We enjoyed a trip on the local light railway, walks along the prom and Military Canal, golf on the adjoining Hythe Club course and tasty dinners at Hythe's nice restaurants and pubs, particularly the Hythe Brasserie and White Hart.
A good Waitrose supermarket is less than 10 minutes walk.
All in all we had a splendid vacation.
We are Germans and have been the first time in GB. I hope that I will express all I want to say in the right way.
The house was ready on time. It's nearly new (we've been the 14th visitors), all has been cleaned very well and the whole house is decorated lovely. The renters have told us before we have arrived that we only should have packed our personal things and find all other things in the house. Indeed they didn't promise to much - there was all you need, we missed nothing. The listing description is accurate.
When I had any question it was very easy to contact the renters by mail, the answers came quickly and they gave tips for the activities we had planned, too, so I was very happy about the customer service.
The house I can recommend without any reduction. Beside the high quality of living inside it's perfect for trips.
We wanted to visit London and had been four times there (with the car to sidcup [a good tip from the renters!] and from there with the train into London with a travelcard). It was very easy. You can also go there by a fast train from Ashford, about 25 minutes away from the house by car. The first way take you a little bit more than 90 minutes, the second about 60 minutes but costs evidently more.
In the case I will return to visit London or Kent I'd absolutely be happy to get rented the house again.
At the start of September, my wife and I with our two young boys (4 months and 18 months) stayed here and had a wonderful time. The proximity to both town and beach and in such a quiet location made it ideal for us.
On arriving at the property it is a bit like Christmas as you progress up the floors. Lots of "wows" and "look at this!" .
It really is a stunning apartment.
As you would expect, the place was immaculately clean and tidy which was appreciated. All the facilities are modern and easy to use.
Due to the age of our children, our schedule and behaviours were driven by them so unfortunately we were unable to enjoy the sundowners on the lovely balcony, maybe next time...
Hythe is a lovely old town with a thriving high street and lots of open space.
Hythe, in the District of Shepway, is one of the five original Cinque Ports (pronounced sink, as in Norman French) on the 'Garden Coast' in South Kent. Four miles from the Channel Tunnel, four miles west of Folkestone and 16 miles south west of Dover.
A wide promenade overlooks a long stretch of beach and across the English channel to France.
The town of Hythe spreads up a hillside in a pleasing jumble of little streets, containing many interesting historic buildings. At the foot of the hill is the old and narrow and partly pedestrianised High Street. Hythe has many well regarded independent shops, cafes and restaurants, regular farmers' markets as well as supermarkets.
The 11th century St.Leonard's Parish Church has a famous crypt and ossuary (vaults containing the bones of early settlers).
Hythe has many recreational facilities.Golf, tennis, riding, bowls, squash, boating, wind-surfing, fresh-water and sea angling and bathing in the local indoor heated pools or the sea are all available.
A five-minute stroll from the house, brings you to the Royal Military canal. This was dug during the Napoleonic era (1804-15) as a defensive measure against possible French invasion. The banks of the Royal Military Canal provide delightful routes for walking and cycling, as does the varied local countryside.
Romney Marsh lies immediately west of the town, and may be explored either by car, bicycle, or by using the World's Smallest Public Railway. Hythe is the Eastern terminus of the famous Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Light Steam Railway, which runs parallel to the coastline through Dymchurch and New Romney to Dungeness.
Hythe is a great base for exploring Kent.
Interesting and historic towns including Rye,Canterbury, Folkestone, Dover and Tenterden are all easily accessible.
Go shopping for bargains at the Designer Outlet near Ashford or pop to France through the Channel Tunnel.
Families will love days out to Brockhill park,Lympne Zoo, Romney Marsh,White Cliffs Country Park and Samphire Hoe.
If your interest is in WW2 history you will find plenty to inform and entertain you, don't miss the wartime tunnels at Dover Castle.
Great transport links even make trips to London and France very easy.
