About Ross Wright

A brief description about myself:

I’m a freelance musician: composer, arranger, conductor, bassist, author, radio personality, and the creator of the Orchestre Surreal where I use the pseudonym Elvis Schoenberg, it’s a 30 piece orchestra where I mash classic rock songs with iconic classical, jazz, and film music. the group performs regularly throughout southern California.

I’ve been the recipient of several awards including:

Best Orchestral Arranger: LA Music Awards

Best Music Direction, For Frank Zappa’s “Joe’s Garage” by The Ticket Holder’s Awards.

Best Composition at the American-Romanian Music Days Festival.

I’ve written music for films, television, and the stage.

My concert music has been performed internationally by various chamber music groups.

My ‘Concerto for Tenor Saxophone and Orchestra” was recently recorded by the Chamber Orchestra at St. Matthew’s and put to video, and was up for Grammy consideration:

Also a novelist, my first published work, a sci-fi novel “Falling From Eden, Inc.” After receiving the runner up in the sci-fi category at the Los Angeles Book Festival and the first honorable mention at the New England book festival.

It made it onto the Amazon international bestseller list:

I’m also an exercise junky, I workout daily and I teach group fitness classes at Gold’s Gym.

I've traveled all over the world usually with bands or various music gigs. So often my stay was short. I like learning about the history of places and the weirder and more tumultuous the stories the better. I remember going to Malta that had a surprisingly interesting history.

Why Ross Wright chose Northeast Kansas City

Why this property?

When I first saw this property I thought what a fantastic place. Even though it was in need of a lot of repair, It had such an amazing character that I wanted to see it brought back to life and have it flourish again. It took a lot of work, and we are still constantly improving things.

It’s an awesome house that was built by the finest craftsmen of their day. There are all kinds of hidden gems, the leaded glass windows, the wood floors that in some rooms are all one plank long and have no seams.

What makes this estate unique

The house is large and gives families and groups the opportunity to all congregate and experience being together in one place and still have a lot of space to do separate activities.

The patio has a BBQ and is a nice place to be when the weather is nice. When the weather gets colder there are seven fireplaces: five downstairs and two upstairs in each of the corner bedrooms.

In the parlor is a piano for the musically inclined.

There is an indoor putting green if you want to practice your short game.

In general it’s a fun space to be in.

Great home for a huge family party

  • 5 of 5

This gorgeous historic house was perfect for extended family. There are tons of large and small cozy spaces to enjoy. Ross was very patient and flexible as I was trying to organize the family and book. He was responsive to a small issue during the stay. Everything was very clean and well supplied at arrival. We would definitely stay again and would recommend to friends.

Perfect location for our school group of 10!

  • 4 of 5

Ross was an accommodating host who promptly and effectively answered our questions and special requests before and during our trip. The layout of the five bedrooms on the upper floor worked perfectly for our chaperones to be at the center of our students and the bottom floors allowed us to comfortable eat dinner together, socialize, and even host our own private murder mystery dinner. The kitchen was also spacious and allowed for us to easily prepare breakfasts and dinners for the group. We felt safe and had a great time!

Worked great for our group...

  • 5 of 5

We had some ballet dancers and some parents stay together in this house during the regional semi-finals of the Youth America Grand Prix at The Folly Theater. It was ideal for us! Only 10 minutes to the theater and about the same to the Kansas City Ballet studios. We all enjoyed sharing meals together in the well stocked kitchen, and sharing drinks in the evenings around the fireplaces. With the beautiful weather in early March, we also used the grill and cooked out. We even had warm up ballet classes in the conservatory! Lots of room to stretch out! Reading other reviews, we just planned to park all our cars out front, which worked out just fine for us. We met the third floor tenant and he helped us get the fireplaces going the first night. If we return to Kansas City again, we will definitely want to come back to this beautiful home!

Could be a nice place, poorly managed.

  • 2 of 5

Let me start by saying this could be a really nice rental. My family of 14 booked the property for a late Christmas party. There was PLENTY of space for us to spread out, but rooms large enough for us to all be together very comfortably. There are some areas of concern though. First, the description of the property is not accurate. It is important that people realize you are not renting the whole house, only the first two floors. The third floor is an occupied apartment. He has a big van that is parked in the back. There is another tenant that lives above the carriage house in the back. He has two dogs and a truck that he parks behind the house. There is very little space for parking your own vehicles and very little privacy. We were not sent any instructions about the place so were unaware about the lack of parking and privacy. I had to contact Ross just to learn how to get in. My family arrived about 4:00, an hour after check in time to find the tenant that lives in the carriage house was doing his laundry in the house and the kitchen was completely trashed. Not just dirty...the upstairs tenant had a party the night before. Your shoes stuck to the floor! Our first hour at the house was spent scrubbing the kitchen counters and floor. We were never contacted by Ross during our stay to try and make this situation right or even just to apologize. It is too bad, this could be a very nice place to rent, but I would steer away from this place with the current management.

Getaway for my husbands birthday.

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time in this grand old house. It almost felt like we had gone back in time.

When we get a chance we plan on staying again.

I want to thank Ross for making sure we had an enjoyable stay and for the 2 gentleman, that

are friends of Ross, that came by and gave us some history on the house. Very cool!

Unique Charm

  • 4 of 5

A very unique and charming place to stay in KC. Great for large groups, dinner parties, and a historic getaway. We found the place fairly comfortable, reasonably priced and fun to entertain a large group in.
