Originally rented for years as a one-bedroom Bayfront Bungalow, the property was taken off the market last year for a major remodel and to construct a new second dwelling with a bedroom and full bath with marble floors, wet bar and top of the line amenities. Kayaks, Stand up Paddle Boards, snorkels with fins are available for use. The bungalow sits directly on the Bayfront. Green Sea Turtles frequently visit and the cove is filled with tropical fish, surrounded by a manicured lawn with hammock. Both bedrooms have king-size beds and a queen fold-out couch in the living room for accommodations of up to six people. Three TV's with Direct TV, high-speed internet and WiFi. Inside the gated Kapoho Beach Community the property has it's own secure electric gates, which is surrounded by lava rock walls. Check-in 3:00 pm, Check-out 10:00 am.

Please note that we do not host additional groups or parties. Only those listed in the Rental Agreement has access to the property unless prior arrangements have been made with management.

Great location!

This property is located exactly as described. Just a few steps to a beautiful sheltered lagoon. Our grand kids loved it. Snorkeling was great and many fish were seen. Went to Champagne Pools and snorkeling in warm water was fantastic!! The only improvement to the bungalow #2 (the separate bedroom) was no chest of drawers to put clothes in. There were hangers for hang up clothing but, no place for other clothing. Otherwise, the property was perfect for us. Highly recommend for all, especially families. Would definitely stay there again (and again).

Wonderful visit

The property was just as described. The vast majority of the interior has been redone and was beautiful. The kitchen was absolutely the best stocked of any I have ever seen in a vacation house. We cooked a few meals and literally everything we needed (even things like a garlic press) was there.The level of security was very reassuring with both a gate to the community well as a gate to the house itself. The location is a bit out of the way but as a result it was very peaceful without a "touristy" vibe. A far cry from the crowds on the Kona side of the island.

Grant was a great host and communication was excellent and he arrived exactly at our prearranged time.

One last comment. The second bedroom and the second bath are in fact in a small house a few steps from the "main house." Although it was just my wife and I staying it would be a wonderful arrangement for two couples traveling together so each would have a high degree of privacy.

In short, I highly recommend both the property and the host.

Could be amazing for the right group

Things we loved:

- The Kapoho area usually had sunshine when the rest of the Hilo side was getting rain

- Waterfront views where we could hear the waves at night

- Big grassy yard, fully fenced

- Lots of seating and outdoor furniture

- Manager was friendly and brought chocolates and was easily available via text

- Each day turtles would swim into the little cove and we could usually spot fish from the lava rock wall

Some inconveniences:

- The house WiFi wasn't on, but connected to the WiFi next door instead

- Outdoor lighting was not on a timer, so the manager contacted us to turn it off. Which we just left it off rather than enjoying it but then forgetting to turn it off before bed.

- The steps to the water were extremely slippery and one of our kids slipped, so unfortunately the water area felt more like a hazard

- The cove pictured is small and outside of it there are big waves and (we were told by the neighbor) a strong rip current, so the SUP and kayak were more of a novelty than an activity

- The house is farther from the Champagne Pond than the gate where the public parks, so even though you're in the community it's actually a longer walk. Also, there was a trail through the jungle to the Kapoho Tide Pools, but similarly, it's a longer walk than if you park at the gate and do the public access walk. In the end, the location didn't end up making snorkeling at either place as convenient as we were hoping despite being close on the map.

- The 2nd bedroom is in a second "dwelling", which I didn't read carefully enough in the description. So, our family was split up at nights which wasn't enjoyable. I think it would be perfect for 2 couples or a family with older kids, but not ideal for a family with small kids.

- There are keypads on both sides of the automatic gate at the property, so you type a code to get in and to get out. Unfortunately, the one going in is so close to the gate that you have to park and get out to type in the code and the one going out is on the passenger side, so same thing there too.

- Oven had no temperatures on the dial, so not usable

- Some of the doors were difficult to slide and the sliding door to the second dwelling had been installed without a handle but only a faceplate with a lock, so you have to use your finger tips to push the door open or walk around to the back to use a door with a handle

Overall:

Great house for 2 couples or a family with older kids but not a good fit for our family with small kids.

Owner's Response: As the owner I would like to clear up some misinformation: 1. The house has the fastest Wi Fi in the community. Wi Fi in this area is generally at best very slow and until this year even DSL was not available. My business requires faster Wi Fi than was available in the community. After almost a one year wait, I was able to get a dedicated internet line through the Hawaiian Telephone Company at double the speed of what is normally available and to ensure that the speed did not slow down during times of high usage by neighbors. To ensure the same extra fast Wi Fi, I connected the Bungalow Wi Fi to my main property next door. 2. The day before our guests arrived I had our electrician install outside tree lights to light up the palm trees. Because of time constraints we did not have sufficient time to wire the lights to the porch light switch (which has since been done). The guest was shown how to turn off the tree lights at night at the transformer in the house. The lights are not on a timer as electric costs in Hawaii are the highest in the nation and such action would require raising the rental rate to cover the wasted electric charge. 3. The steps into the water are sometime underwater and sometimes not. A slippery condition is to be expected when algae grows. Our manager Grant specifically warned the guests. Caution is always appropriate when getting into water everywhere, particularly when stepping on rocks. 4. The cove is on a bay and there are no rip currents in a bay. Our guest was misinformed. We kayak all around the bay and paddle board in the protected cove without concern or challenge. 5. The snorkeling in front of the property is very nice and no need to go anywhere else unless one wants to experience alternate locations to snorkel. 6. The oven temperature dial is worn so we installed an oven thermometer in the oven. The oven works properly, and the thermometer gives a more accurate reading than the control dial. 7. We have had security key pads extend out for easier access only to have then knocked off by rental cars that people weren't used to driving. 8. The sliding door referred to has a slip out handle in the faceplate of the door for easy closing that is activated by pushing in the button causing the handle to extend. It is often disorienting until one gets acquainted with the workings of an unfamiliar home, even if the operations seem obvious. We will leave better instructions in the future.

Location! And then some!

This place is beautiful, and so nice to be right on the cove. Such a blast kayaking across to the champagne pond for spectacular snorkeling and then back. A couple of very minor things we noticed, I was going to mention when we left, but the owner, who happened to be staying next door, called about something else and, when I mentioned those things, he took care of them promptly. Love it especially for two couples, as the 2nd bedroom is actually separated from the main house, with its own bath and coffee maker, so very private when desired. Owner has really provided everything for a great vacation!!! Hope to be able to go back.

Lovely!!

We absolutely loved this property. We arrived to sweet Hawaiian music softly playing in a clean, well maintained and adorable house. The grounds are meticulously maintained, access to the bay is so easy, and the hammock!! Oh my - heavenly! The essential water toys are supplied and easily accessible, the kitchen is well stocked with gear - we were very well cared for. The location was perfect for us with easy access to snorkeling and adventures, and a nice drive to see the volcano. It was a wonderful combination of serenity and access to all the action we needed. I recommend this one highly, and will definitely be returning!

As close to paradise as possible

The property was just as described, however finally being their was over the top. So close to the ocean, we were able to snorkel and kayak right off our yard. The sea life was plentiful and we were able to see more than other places we have stayed. Having a separate building for the private master suite was a plus. All looked to be newly constructed. The house is located in a private gated community which was very nice and safe. The house even has its own private gate. Very convenient to Pahoa and the farmers markets where we purchased fresh local produce. Pahoa had a few good restaurants and a great natural grocery store.
