THIS PROPERTY HAS MULTIPLE PLUMBING ISSUES WHICH THE OWNER KNEW ABOUT BEFORE OUR ARRIVAL AND DID NOTHING TO RESOLVE. THE PROPERTY MANAGER IS RESPONSIVE BUT INEFFECTIVE AND HER “HANDYMAN” IS INCOMPETENT. RENT AT YOUR OWN RISK!
We rented this property for 8/29-9/3 (Thursday to Tuesday). Upon our arrival the toilet in the master bath was turned off. When we turned it on we realized the toilet ran constantly. We let the manager know. Her handyman was supposed to come fix it about 5:30 but then she asked if he could come at 10am Saturday. He did come and he replaced the entire mechanism in the tank. Shortly after I returned from an errand I noticed the toilet was running again. The problem wasn’t fixed and was worse than before. I told the manager and she was going to send her guy back at 8pm. We were going out to dinner so he couldn’t come until we returned.
Before we went out I went down to the basement and discovered water was leaking from several locations under the toilet area all over the floor and a table (which we moved, and wiped down to prevent water damage). There was water even coming from locations where there were no pipes. I promptly told the manager. The manager told the owner about these problems and his/her response was that he knew about the leaks and would get it fixed after we leave. The manager asked if I still wanted the handyman to come and I said no. It was now after 8 PM. (Why do I want him back here if he can’t handle a simple fix? This was a preexisting problem the owner knew about and chose not to resolve before our arrival)
Later that night, at 10:28pm the leaking water reached the smoke detector in the basement and set off all 3 detectors in the cabin. I called the manager while they were going off and left her a message. She didn’t call me back. The detectors continued to wail while I tried to figure out a way to turn them off, with no luck. I didn’t want to touch the wet one in the basement because there was water everywhere and a potential shock hazard. Our son finally disabled it by knocking it out of its mounting. That solved the fire alarms going off.
The Shower in the main bath doesn’t work right either. We were informed that the faucet works backward, should have left instructions about that.
We left on Tuesday morning with water still leaking in the basement. These problems put us and our family under considerable stress.
The guest arrived and I went by to check on them around 4:30 PM. At that time he informed me the toilet was running and that if "he had a wrench" it would be an easy fix and "no plumber required". I told him I would try to get my handyman by and mentioned he would be finished around 5:30 with what he was already doing. Since the handyman had plans for Friday night and the guest told me it "was no big deal" the handyman was scheduled for the following morning at 10AM. The insides of the toilet were replaced. In doing so the toilet was lifted off its base and some water went into the hole and dripped into the basement. Later that afternoon the guest texted me a picture of a very small puddle of water and demanded my handyman come back out. I scheduled the handyman to go back out to clean up the small puddle of water and then the guest informed me to cancel him.
When we inspected the cabin after the guest left, we found the cabin reeked of cigar smoke. This would cause the smoke alarms to go off- I have never heard of a small puddle of water setting off a smoke alarm- but cigars certainly would. The smoke alarms are located 7 feet above the ground. The guests says the "smoke alarm was wet". The basement did not flood up to 7 feet to get the smoke alarm wet. I received no call from the guests in regards to the smoke alarms.
The cabin owner had used his cabin the week before and noticed the toilet intermittently running, but forgot to let me know. Again, the guest told me it "was no big deal" but I got the issue addressed asap.
We will be holding back $25.00 of the guests damage deposit to replace the broken smoke alarm. We are clearly a "no smoking" property and the guest was aware of this through the contract he signed.
Our 14 five star and 2 four star reviews speak for themselves.
We had a fantastic getaway at Deerly Blessed! The cabin was incredibly clean and well provisioned and was the perfect size for our group of 5. The photos do not do justice to the back yard, it is wonderful. If you have pets you should know that the back deck also has 2 fenced in areas connected together so you can let your fur-babies get a little exercise without worry. The only reason I rated the cabin 4 stars for location and neighborhood is because of its location in the community. It is a few miles from the gate entrance and takes about 10 minutes to get from gate to cabin. Not that big a deal, but the road is a little narrow at parts and we avoided driving it at night. But everything else was just about perfect. We will return for sure.
A great cabin that I’d rent again! We enjoyed this well stocked and cutely decorated house. Thank you for having corn to feed the deer. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will return if given the opportunity.
We had a fantastic time at the cabin! The best part was the kitchen: it’s got all of the dishes and pans you’d need to make dinners, which is exactly what we did. It’s a quiet area, so it was quite peaceful, and it’s an easy drive to Ellijay.
The only thing that wasn’t great was the master bed: we didn’t find it to be very comfortable, as it’s really soft. But other than that, we had a fantastic weekend!
Our Stay at Deerly Blessed Cabin
This is a very spacious cabin with cute rustic decor. We feed the deer each morning and night. Fully stocked kitchen and spacious bedrooms. We could not have asked for a better cabin. Thank you!!
Deerly Blessed photos do not do this cabin justice! This cabin is beautiful!
What is not in the overview is the fact that there is a large fenced in area that runs from one side of the cabin to the other side by means of the lower deck, for your furbabies to run off excess energy or of course potty.
There is corn feed supplied to attract and feed the many deer (and squirrels) that visit.
You feel right at home as soon as you enter. The cabin was very clean and had everything we needed for our 4 day visit. The only thing I suggest is a set of butcher/larger knives for chopping and dicing fruits & vegetables. We struggled a little trying to slice a head of cabbage, for cabbage steaks, with a steak knife but we made it work. This is in no way a complaint just a suggestion.
I would definitely recommend this cabin.
Thank you Julee!
