About Ruth Haller
As a San Diego native I have lived and worked within 10 miles of this house for most of my life. I am passionate about all I do: I teach kindergarteners to love learning, I love traveling and hiking, and I love being a foodie, a movie buff, and a 'staycationer' with my lovely daughter and our young pup.
Ruth Haller purchased this House in 2017
Why Ruth Haller chose Bankers Hill
This property has been owned by a dear friend, a second mom, for the past 30+ years. As she decided to start her life in a new city, I couldn't imagine not being able to feel at home in the house that holds such dear memories for both of us. So this year I was fortunate enough to be able to buy it from her. (Love you Max!!! XOXOX)
What makes this House unique
I think I already mentioned most of my favorite aspects of this home, but to specify... please enjoy the following: walk to great restaurants and Balboa Park, enjoy fantastic views, relax on the front porch or the swing on the side of the house, take in the beautiful architecture and interior woodwork (especially the wood checkerboard ceiling in the dining room and wood built ins throughout.)

Awesome stay in Banker's Hill
Our family of 3 adult children, my husband and I had a terrific stay at Rurh's lovely house. The location was terrific, the house comfy and welcoming, and we enjoyed sitting on the porch after a long day. Many thanks, Ruth!
This home was very welcoming and comfortable for the 4 of us. The kitchen was well stocked with good functioning appliances. The linens were soft and clean. The fan in the small bedroom didn’t work and we could have used it. My biggest problem was the planes flying right over the house - and I mean RIGHT OVER. You could almost reach up and touch the wheels. I was terrified the first night every time one landed, which was about one every 3 minutes. I didn’t get to sleep until 1 am. And they started back up again about 5 am. After 3 nights, however, I had become accustomed to the roar and could sleep through it. As mentioned in other reviews, there is no designated parking for the house and you have to scout around for a parking place. But that would be true anywhere in San Diego probably. The best feature of this rental is the location. Close to the freeway, close to the Midway, close to the zoo, easy access to the beaches and Coronado. The husbands really enjoyed sitting on the front porch and watching the planes land, so “to each his own” I guess. Overall, a good value for two couples sharing the cost.
Lovely, Spacious House
We were in San Diego for Comic Con, this was the furthest from the Convention Centre we stayed, but between the light rail and ride share, it was very easy to get to.
The house is lovely; older, but perfectly modern updates and conveniences. It was the best stocked house that I have ever stayed at. There were plenty of towels, sheets, plates, bowls, cups, cutlery, cooking utensils, appliances, food staples, everything.
There's plenty of seating and comfortable places to sleep. Also, enough closets, chest of drawers, and built-ins for us to store all of our regular clothes and our cosplay clothes.
The airport is VERY close, and the house is on the direct landing path. Ruth has provided ear plugs, but I don't think many of us used them. Some of us have noise cancelling headphones, which we used, the others didn't mind. The planes slow down about 21:00, and are basically done by midnight.
The street itself is quiet and seems to have plenty of parking.
Ruth, the owner, is easy to contact and incredibly helpful. We would happily stay at her place again.
Jen, thanks so much for leaving such a detailed description. I think you touched on the unique points of my home beautifully. I hope your explanation of the house's location will help others make great, informed decisions. Glad you enjoyed your stay! You're welcome back anytime!
Great location and cozy home!
The home is beautiful and the owner did so many little things to make our stay enjoyable and comfortable, including providing fresh flowers and a bottle of wine from a local winery! The location was perfect and walking distance to Balboa Park, Little Italy, and the water front. For things a little farther, we rented scooters and had a great time "scootering" around the city. We would definitely recommend this home to anyone who would like to be in the center of things and ditch the car for a few days!
So glad you enjoyed your stay. Thanks for noticing the personal touches! ...and thanks you for taking such great care of my home!
My husband and I stayed here with another couple and had a wonderful stay. Everything was very clean and we thought it was really cool watching the planes go by (and the planes never woke us up at night surprisingly). Would definitely recommend this place and stay again!
Perfect for a long weekend
We stayed here for three nights. It was perfect! Central location allowing us to visit all different neighborhoods. We could walk to “downtown” Little Italy. Ruth was so helpful with every step of the booking process and throughout the trip.
Thanks Megan for your kind words. ...and thanks for taking great care of our home. We hope to host you again in the future!
