About Cyndie Cornelius

We arrived in the Smokies over eight years ago. Our first trip was a fly fishing adventure. Until then, my only Smokies adventure had been to Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge.

Townsend proved to be an oasis in the mountains. The setting is serene and peaceful and without the trappings of the more recognized areas. Trout were not the only things hooked that weekend... we were as well. Just one year later, we arrived in Townsend to live full time. It took a year to make it happen, but we were determined to make the Smokies our home.

We surely can not imagine living anywhere else. Waking every morning to the sunrise over the mountains, and the sights and sounds of the birds and other wild life living in the area, is an unbelievable experience.

We have in the years since our arrival, started a Real Estate Sales Firm appropriately named, Why the Smokies.

It has been our objective to educate others about the wonders of living here in this beautiful place and if the fit is right, to help them with their goal to move here on a permanent basis, or to find their perfect getaway home here in the Smokies.

Since that time, we have purchased four additional cabins and have done our best to create an environment that will hopefully give our guests a place to call home when they come to visit.

The number of returning guests has grown greatly in the past year.

If your dates of arrival are not available for this cabin, try our other cabins

Smoke Rise, The Cove and Wildwood, also on VRBO. .

Why Cyndie Cornelius chose Townsend

When choosing Rocky Hollow, we considered the same qualities that have meant so much to our guests in Smoke Rise, The Cove and Wildwood. It is the parklike, private setting that was the initial draw for us. It is a well maintained cabin that has the warm interior of true log. With two private bedrooms, two full baths and two sitting areas for guests to gather, we knew that we could create the same warm mountain feel that we have been able to create in our other cabins.

We have had numerous requests for a two bedroom cabin, but our guidelines are pretty tight as far a settings go so finding the right cabin was not easy. From the moment we saw Rocky Hollow, we knew it had the IT factor we were looking for.

What makes this cabin unique

It is our mission to maintain our cabins in a manner that will never disappoint. We are VERY local owners and we keep a watchful eye over our retreats.

We want you to consider 'Smoke Rise' , The Cove' ,Rocky Hollow or Wildwood".... your home away from home in the Great Smoky Mountains!!

Perfect couple's retreat!

  • 5 of 5

We use VRBO & HomeAway a lot booking primarily cabin trips or beach trips. Unfortunately the pictures do not always paint a clear picture or the listings fall quite short of what you actually find. As a Realtor my expectations in advertising listings is very high! Cyndie and Warren's cabin (Rocky Hollow) could not have been any more spot on perfectly pictured. What you see in these photos will be 100% exactly what you find. We were very pleased all around. The cabin was beautifully and tastefully decorated, not the least bit overwhelming. The furnishings were all in excellent condition, most of them being quite new. The kitchen is very nicely equipped, we missed nothing while cooking and again, all utensils, cookware and dishes were spotless and nice quality. We wanted to bring the beds and pillows home they were so comfortable and the linens were the absolute best ever. The entire cabin was spotless. But it didn't stop there... Cyndie is making sure she stands apart by including the small, special touches like a little tin of creamers in the frig and a welcoming coffe/tea station next to the microwave. She doesn't just throw her towels in a drawer, just the opposite. Whether the bathrooms or kitchen, they were all displayed in special welcoming touches. Now the cabin is not isolated, so just know that. It's in an adorable golf community so some may find that a plus! Even though it sits in a little hollow and didn't offer the mountain top views we were used to, we felt the location was perfect. We spent a Friday afternoon in Gatlinburg and packed a picnic for a full day Saturday in Cades Cove (my little heaven on earth!). We all somewhat wished we hadn't brought so much food because the choices of restaurants between Gatlinburg and Townsend was very plentiful so we're already planning to pack less food for our next stay because we do plan to come back to Rocky Hollow! Thank you Cyndie and Warren for helping us have a stress free much needed time away!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for this overwhelming review! We fell in love with this cabin and had a vision for it. As is true in most projects, this one took longer and cost more than anticipated, but you just made it all worth it to us!! We are fortunate enough to live in these beautiful mountains. We love giving the experience to others that must live somewhere else! Rocky Hollow won our hearts and it is such a joy to see it has won yours. We look forward to seeing you again in our little piece of paradise in the Great Smoky Mountains!. Cyndie and Warren

  • 5 of 5

My family had a wonderful stay at Rocky Hollow. The owners really have put much thought into every amenity you should need. I loved all the little details in the decorations. I just wished I could’ve stayed a bit longer.

A nice little cabin for some mountain quiet time

  • 5 of 5

One of the reasons we liked Townsend is that it is SO quiet, but that memory was from 20+ years ago. We had expected it to have grown a bit since then, but nothing has changed. It's still just a wide spot in the road that goes to bed early. Rocky Hollow is well named as it is situated in a rocky hollow inside a golf course community. The types of places range from teensy cabins to multi-million dollar estates and we took some nice, hilly walks to check them out.

The cabin is well represented by the pictures on VRBO. It is exactly like it looks there. The level of fit and finish is excellent and the furnishings are high quality and were brand new at the time of our stay (late March of 2018). The kitchen is well stocked with most of the things you will need to cook in. We really needed a potato peeler and a colander, the bundt pan, not so much. We were really impressed by the beds. So much so that we tried to figure out the mattress brand to no avail. They are supremely comfortable and the linens are again, high quality. I was anxious to get to bed each night to luxuriate.

We took in some of the very local attractions. Cades Cove is nearby so we hiked to Abrams Falls and back. Not the most scenic of hikes, but the falls are cool. It is easy enough that it draws a lot of non-hikers so keep that in mind. We rode horses at Davy Crockett riding stables which is about 5 miles away. Nice folks. Had a lot of fun. We also saw Tuckaleechee Caverns which is a tourist trap out of the 1970s, but it was really fun and the story behind the place is fascinating. Don't be scared off by the hokiness. On the last day we did the hike to Chimney Tops and that was fabulous. Very short, but super steep and the sights packed into 2 miles were unbelievable. We also braved some attractions in Pigeon Forge, but I won't go into those as they're too far from the cabin to add anything to this review.

We liked the cabin and enjoyed the ease of dealing with Cyndie so much that we requested the list of her other properties so we can come back and try those. Next time it will be something with a view. Rocky Hollow is charming, but again, it is well named.

This place went above and beyond our expectations!

Warren and Cyndie thought of everything with this cabin. They take care of their guests! We were pleasantly surprised with the cabin and the amenities; they even thought of the laundry detergent that we had forgotten at home! It was our first stay in Townsend but most definitely not our last!
