I have been traveling to Haywood County my entire life and consider it my 'second home'. I absolutely love the area and our log cabin home and look forward to being a permanent resident in the near future.
Jennifer Jones purchased this cabin in 2006
We love the Waynesville area and hope to move into this home within a couple of years.
Change of seasons, mountains, nature, horses, pond, ducks, great hiking.
A great place to relax. Convenient to everything, well maintained and comfortable..
My girlfriend and I stayed at the delightful Cataloochee Mountain Cabin over this past Christmas (2015). The cabin was beautiful, relaxing, warm and cozy (not to mention very clean with a well-equiped kitchen, comfortable couches and beds, and a wonderful fireplace). We particularly enjoyed sitting outside on the deck in the morning with tea and then again at night with hot chocolate or cocktails. Walking down the Mountain after tea in the morning to feed the donkeys, geese, ducks and horses was a nice start each day. And, toward evening, we saw dozens of elk at the bottom of the Mountain and even more at a closeby park in the Cataloochee Valley. The Cabin is secluded enough to be able to take a break from city life (we live in Los Angeles) and yet close enough to Asheville and Waynesville to go sightseeing (I highly recommend spending a day at the Biltmore Estate), shopping (downtown Asheville and Waynesville are musts), and eating out.
Bottom line – I highly recommend the Cataloochee Mountain Cabin. My only regrets from our trip are that we didn’t stay for a longer period of time.
I've stayed at the Cataloochee Mountain Cabin several times over the years and wanted to share my experience.
First, this the perfect location to enjoy both the country and the beautiful, artsy/foodie city of Asheville. Asheville is only 25 minutes away so an easy, scenic drive.
Waynesville is a smaller but charming town that is close by as well, about 15 minutes. Great dining, nice shops and an adorable old time downtown area to explore.
For animal lovers, there are 2 resident donkeys right down the hill that appreciate regular visits -- ok, mostly they just want carrots, but its fun to interact with them.
Now - the cabin. This is a clean, comfortable, somewhat rustic yet well appointed home with modern touches like high speed wifi, new kitchen appliances, and ________ ? that make it a pleasure to visit. It also has a great fireplace and a large back porch, with views, perfect for reading, writing, chatting, or drinking your morning coffee/tea. This is an ideal place to relax or explore, or do to a bit of both!
My Family of 7 had a Great time In this Cabin. It is very well decorated, and looked wonderful.
It is in a great location in the mountains, with awesome views in all directions. If you have looked
at many different cabins, stop your search here, for in my opinion this is the best! The owners are
also Great with quick and excellent communications. A++ 5 STARS all the way!
Thanks for a Great Vacation Jenn and Gary!!!
Let me start by saying this is the ideal place for a vacation whose memories you will always treasure, and by saying that the pictures do not even begin do it justice. For more details, keep reading.Cataloochee Mountain Cabin is perfectly situated in a little mountainside enclave, far enough from town that you’re well into the country yet close enough that getting to town is easy. It’s big enough to comfortably accommodate families and small groups – we had plenty of elbow room with four adults and three kids – yet at the same time it’s small enough that a couple on a romantic getaway would not feel like they rented too much space. The cabin is perfectly clean, its furniture and beds are comfortable, and it could not be better equipped as far as amenities are concerned. The grill on the front deck is ingeniously wired into the cabin’s gas line so you don’t have to worry about running out of propane while you’re cooking. You can actually use the fireplace (which many rental homes don’t allow) and there was a tremendous amount of firewood waiting for us.Our three-year-old had the time of her life sledding down the driveway, making snow angels, making snowballs, and eating the snow cream we made. Plus, we parents lived it up by sledding down the driveway after dark when the kids were in bed. If you like to ski or snowboard, you’re close to Cataloochee Ski Resort. If you like to hike, you’re close to many miles of wilderness trails on public lands, or you can just meander the enclave’s rural roads (if you take the first left turn above the cabin, then the first right turn you come to next, you’ll crest the ridge and come upon a view that is one of the best I’ve ever seen). This place is so wonderful that we plan to return again, even though my family has owned its own mountaintop cabin since 1984 that I’ve always considered my “home away from home.”
Located in the heart of the Smoky Mountains and near the Blue Ridge Parkway. Close to the Biltmore House, Gardens, and Winery, Cherokee Indian Preservation, Smokey Mountain Railroad, Gem Mining, Art Galleries, and so much more!
