About Jean & Rolston Michael
The photo above is of Jean Michael. I was born in Trinidad of an Antiguan mother and a Dominican father, grew up in England, spent 10 years in Germany, returned to England and emigrated to Antigua with husband Rolston in 1995. Rolston (I'll put up a picture of him later) is born of Antiguan mother and father. Our parents grew up together and met up again in Trinidad. During the years between UK and Antigua, they kept in touch - good friends forever.
Jean & Rolston Michael purchased this Villa in 1997
Why Jean & Rolston Michael chose Saint Paul
You can trust Willoughby; we built it with the skills of local tradesmen. Rolston bought the land at a time when Antiguans were not buying seaside land. Willoughby Bay does not flood; even during hurricanes, the high water mark is well below the level of the house, so you will be quite safe. Views from the east verandah are superb.
What makes this Villa unique
Willoughby Bay has the reputation of being one of the most beautiful and unspoilt bays on the island. It's a relatively short drive to fine white sand beaches. Foodies have their choice of Italian, French, Chinese, Syrian, Japanese cuisine and many other nationalities.

Perfect Location on the Bay!
We just returned from a week's vacation at Willoughby Bay and loved every minute of it! The very private, tranquil location of the house away from the hustle and bustle of English Harbor allowed for quiet relaxation on the beautiful balcony overlooking the Bay. No noise except for the sound of wind and waves (and the occasional rain shower - that turned to quite the storm at night). But the house is solid and safe. While the decor of the house may not be able to compete with the sleek, modern interior of neighboring villas, the location cannot be better. After spending the day swimming or exploring the island, we were always glad to return home, kick off our sandals and relax in the cool breeze on the balcony. The house itself is clean and the beds comfortable which is all that mattered to us. We cannot wait to return to this piece of paradise.
Anja and her family were among the most pleasant guests, and I'm glad they enjoyed their stay, because we enjoyed hosting them. They were very communicative, and on their departure the house was left clean. I would recommend them to any host. We do hope that they will book Willoughby again.
Wonderful home, quiet location.... 10 minutes from everything
Jean and Ralston were amazing! The home is a little dated, but it’s perfect! It fits the culture. You absolutely can not beat the views! Like I said, it’s in a quiet ‘working class’ neighborhood, on the south side of the island. Not in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the city. If you’re looking for a great, safe place to chill out and relax, this is your place! We took our two boys with us ( 9 & 11) and they had a blast in the pool! I loved visiting with Ms. Jean and Mr. Ralston, there story will inspire you! They just made you feel at home. Every person / company the recommended was top of the line! Don’t look anywhere else, this is the place you want to be for your relaxing Antiguian vacation!
We're so glad you enjoyed your time at Willoughby. We promise to maintain high standards so that we're ready for your next visit. Great guests.
A little bit of paradise!
The villa was everything we hoped for, very peaceful, private and tranquil. The villa was very clean and equipped with everything we needed. The interior of the villa could do with a little updating perhaps, but the view from the balcony was so breathtakingly beautiful. The garden and the pool was gorgeous with plenty of places to sit in the sun but also plenty of shade as well! Jean and Rolston were friendly and approachable, it was so nice to chat with them and learn a little about their lives living in Antigua. The car hire firm that Jean recommended gave great service. Really appreciated the escorted service from the airport when we arrived, as the roads are very dark and the potholes awesome! Hope to return next year.
setting and accomodations noice
nice ideal quiet location. Especially since we used it as a family reunion.
All what we would need for week vacation was there.
Hosts/owner were very nice. I liked the that owner/host asked early on what we would need for provisions for that first day, and they were provided (milk, butter, bread, etc). After a long day of traveling it was to know that there was something there to get started. A great touch that I never encountered before in VRBO.
I would recommend more plastic glasses, dishes for pool area use.
Only issue was communication with owner prior to and during visit. There were delays we used texted and owners often used email through VRBO and we don't have a VRBO account to send responses through.
Hope to vacation again here in a few years
We've booked a return visit
Two weeks in January 2018 were not enough, so we'll be back for three weeks next year!
This was our fourth self-catering visit to Antigua, and Willoughby was the best of the four houses we have stayed in. It is well equipped, and everything works, including the hot water and broadband, both of which have been flaky elsewhere. The pool is crystal clear, but does not use chlorine, which is a bonus.
Jean and Rolston met us at the villa, and ensured that the fridge was stocked with "welcome pack" items we had requested in advance. They were available on the phone throughout our stay, and sorted out a couple of minor niggles quickly and efficiently.
The location of Willoughby is superb - 10 minutes from English Harbour and 20 minutes from Half Moon Bay. Recommended restaurants are Jacksons (formerly the Hideout), just two minutes from the villa, and Cloggys and Trappas in English Harbour.
Looking forward to our return to Willoughby next year!
We were petrified when we learned that our January guests were themselves in the business of villa rentals. But we need not have worried; as with most of our guests, these guests were very pleasant and charming; just wanted to relax and enjoy their hard earned rest away from the cold.
Thanks to you both for your suggestions as to how we could improve our offer. If we don't manage to get everything done before your return (particularly the more expensive improvements), it will be because we have to pay university fees as from October.
We are very grateful for the very positive review - it's always nice to be appreciated.
Great for families
Spacious accommodation with all conveniences for a comfortable vacation. I deal for families.
Jean and Rolston are great and nothing is too much trouble. the bay is great to look at but the beach is all stones and the sargasso weed was in when we were there (Late June) so not good for swimming, but you have the pool and there are 365 other great beaches in Antigua to choose from. Lovely quiet area, with nothing around so you will need a car to get about.
English harbour is only 5 minutes away and the st James club even closer.
Thank you to all our guests - best people in the world. We love meeting and greeting you and to know that our efforts are not wasted.
'Willoughby' is situated at Red Hill, Willoughby Bay, the bay next to Marmora Bay, home to world famous St. James's Club, where our guests are made welcome for restaurant dining. It is across the bay from Crossroads Drugs Rehab Centre, founded by Eric Clapton and friends. Top restaurant Jackson's is within walking distance of Willoughby. Peaceful Willoughby Bay - ideal for walking, angling, wind-surfing, snorkelling, beach combing & watching the wildlife. 'Nowhere is far' as they say in Antigua; in 1/2 hr you can be at the golf course. A 10 min. drive to English Harbour reveals a world of shopping, water-sports & exciting night-life, esp. in high season. Learn to sail at the Yacht Club; visit the romantic setting of Nelson’s Dockyard & other famous historic sites. Enjoy local popular music? Shirley Heights is the place with steel pan and reggae. The capital St John’s, 25 mins. drive away, has a wealth of shopping and restaurant facilities. It's a 30 min. drive to the airport.
