Noto Reference purchased this villa in 2013
Just thought it would be a shame to leave such a wonderful place empty while I'm away working. Last but not least its maintenance does bear costs and I wanted to break even on that.
This villa is pretty extraordinary not just because of its own beauty (it's getting published on architecture reviews), but mostly because of its location near one of the most stunning areas of Sicily. You get all the comforts at home and can visit the most amazing scenery in the Natural reserve of Vendicari as well as baroque architecture in the Unesco World Heritage city of Noto, Siracusa, Modica and Scicli.
We went to sicily during the first two weeks of june. We were two families with children between 6 and 10. the house was great. There is very few furniture in the house but you wont miss anything because you will be staying outside under the pergola. During this time of the year you wont need the ac. Our children loved the pool and we did too, especially because it a little bit away from the house so the children could yell and sceam and it dosnot bother anyone. If you go there your children should be able to swim. On one side you will enjoy beeing "far out" on the other hand you have to buy everything in the supermarket. For a bakery you have to go about ten kilometers but that didnot matter to us. The garden was hudge, compared to that there is only a small but large enough area with plants and gras. In the evening you will love sitting on the roof with you nero d'avola and look at the stars. If you want to go out for the night you can go to Marzamemmi where life starts at about ten o'clock in the evening. We had a great vacation!
Its geographical location makes it a home port for all those species of migratory birds from Europe central- go to winter at latitudes more 'low.
Vendicari is therefore a formidable 'rest stop' where you can admire animals otherwise hardly visible.
Consists of a series of marshes near the sea Nature Reserve is also home to all those animal and plant species that can adapt to high salinity conditions 'and that' subject area.
In fact fed minimally by rainwater and mainly by the waters of the sea that infiltrate into the ground, the ponds of Vendicari have accumulated in the course of their history, a high amount 'of salts, as to be exploited in the past as true and their salts.
The exploitation of the salt mines of Sicily and the tragic events related to the flooding of 1951 caused the abandonment of this activity ', which is still some traces the Pantano Grande.
The strategic location of Vendicari makes this area very interesting for all animal lovers and especially for those who enjoy bird watching.
Although we should not expect to find a real outdoor zoo if, armed with a lot of patience and a little luck, you will be going to Vendicari, will be 'possible to observe, also depending on the time of year, some birds ...... not exactly common.
During the autumn you will see the large wading birds.
When the ponds, consequently at the dry season, are almost 'dry will not be' difficult to make out within the small statues almost motionless.
Herons, Spoonbills, Egrets and more 'rarely, storks and flamingos populate happily (so to speak) the wildlife oasis of Syracuse, while, a little more' lively, small waders such Fratini (recognizable from the characteristic brown open loop around neck), Pettegole, Pantane, Sandpipers and gambecchi move continuously between the low and muddy waters.
In winter, from November to March, when the waters of the marshes are more 'abundant, you will encounter numerous Ducks and Coots well' many common gulls and some Cormorant.
The spring and 'instead what they can' bring big disappointments or fantastic surprises.
In fact, according to various weather conditions you can see large flocks of birds return from Africa, parked (alas', short) restaurant.
The strong appeal to the more 'cold nesting places induce fact migratory birds to make brief stops during their long, endless travel. Therefore will gather many of those birds seen during the fall as well as' Glossy Ibis, Garganeys and Marsh Harriers.
One of the few birds that nest in Vendicari and 'the knight of Italy, an elegant black and white bird with long red legs.
When the ponds dry up again, during the summer, the almost total absence of migrating birds induces visitors to do more 'attention to other wildlife species.
Apart from some heron, always present even during the warm seasons, the marshes are populated by all those animal species that can adapt to the extreme living conditions dictated by the high salinity 'water and land.
Amphibians, reptiles, invertebrates, insects and mammals in large numbers are proof that this area is well protected and safeguarded, so as to promote the free development of many animals in the wild.
They meet many foxes, weasels, wild rabbits but also, although more 'rare turtles, hedgehogs and porcupines.
Even insects and invertebrates are well represented, in part due to their high scientific value, are very important for the balance of the natural ecosystem.
The high salinity 'water of Pantani has generated the growth of plants or succulent halophytes.
The different constitution of the substrate on which they develop further differentiates the vegetation typical of rocky environments from that characteristic of sandy soils.
It is therefore to form different floristic associations.
If we analyze the association of flora in a stretch of rocky meet, proceeding from the sea inland, an area afitotica few meters (in which you have the fluctuations of the tides and the spray of the surf more 'big) followed by a band alofila rock (-10 m 2) that is predominantly of Sea Fennel, chicory Spinosa, the Lymonium syracusanum and Lymonium virgatum.
Afterwards we meet a strip Gariga consists predominantly dall'aromatico Timo and more 'rare spinaporci well' by many dwarf palms, Spazzaforno, Mandragora and beautiful orchids.
Towards the most 'internal switching to a spot in Mastic, Oleastro, Fillirea, Scylla and still dwarf palm.
