|Minimum Stay||2 - 3 nights|
Nestling in a 3½ acre, meadow garden, 'Peace of Eden' is a newly refurbished, rustic luxury, country cottage. It is located on the outskirts of the secluded village of Svatonovice, at the heart of the Czech Paradise (Cesky Raj). Built in a traditional, central European, chalet style, it sleeps 8 in four bedrooms.
Uniquely, it has two matching, spacious main bedroom suites both with full en-suite bathrooms. Having two main bedroom suites makes Peace of Eden ideal for two families to share - no need to fight over who will get the best main bedroom !! Or why not bring Granma and Grandad? They will be delighted to enjoy their privacy. As both main suites have a comfortable sitting area, they make an ideal place to escape the family hubbub when rowdy kids are wildly burning up their energy.
We'd be delighted to welcome you to enjoy the relaxation and comfort that Peace of Eden has to offer. From the moment you arrive we want you to have a wonderful holiday experience.
After parking easily in the spacious, off road parking area (room for five cars), you'll come inside into the large hallway to dump your bags, kick-off your shoes and hang up your coats. Please do make yourselves at home.
From the hallway you'll be able to quickly access the light and airy kitchen diner to brew up a life saving cup of tea or coffee. With views out into the garden, it has a relaxed ambiance, perfect for culinary creativity and long, leisurely mealtimes. Being fully equipped, including double oven, microwave, touch control electric hob and full size dishwasher, it has all you need to ensure catering will be thoroughly enjoyable.
Then why not visit the cosy living room to put your feet up. With a striking brick vaulted ceiling, leather sofas and oak floor, the atmosphere is focused on traditional comfort. In cooler weather, settling down in front of a roaring fire in the wood stove, with a steaming cup of hot chocolate is exactly what you'll need to stave off the winter chill. Here you'll enjoy great conversation, family games, a thrilling DVD or just sit mesmerised by the leaping flames.
Upstairs you'll find the two main bedroom suites, en-suite bathrooms, two twin rooms and family bathroom. The light and spacious main bedroom suites have been furnished with an emphasis on comfort, relaxation and privacy. Both have king size beds that promise a peaceful nights sleep. They also have their own sitting area where you'll be able to escape to relax and unwind. There are even laptop sized safes in the wardrobes to secure your valuables.
If you enjoy bathroom experiences then the roomy bathrooms at Peace of Eden will be a delight. All have baths, walk-in showers, heated towel rails and illuminated mirrors. We'll even provide you with towels, hand soap and toilet paper.
Back downstairs you'll notice the compact utility room with washing machine, tumble dryer, drying rack, iron and board.
And then you'll probably want to stroll outside to explore the 3½ acre meadow garden with its forested eastern border. You'll find the garden is well equipped for relaxation and outdoor lifestyle in warmer weather with a Weber barbecue - mmmmm, smell those steaks as they sizzle over the coals; outdoor table and bench seating for alfresco dining; recliners for lazing away the hours and hammocks to catch some zzz's. Kids will enjoy exploring and will have ample space to burn off their excess energy.
Whether you're looking for an adventure filled holiday with endless activity, exploration and discovery followed by relaxation and recovery or just want to escape the rat race and unwind, then Peace of Eden is the prefect place. How can we be sure ? Because that's exactly what we love to do whenever we visit.
We very much hope you'll come and discover the Peace of Eden.
Warm greetings from the Philips family. We're so excited you are taking a look at 'Peace of Eden' and very much hope you will come and enjoy a holiday in our Czech holiday haven, nestling in this secret garden at the heart of Europe, the Czech Paradise. We'd love to share it with you. We live near St. Albans, just outside London, in the United Kingdom. Andrew is a construction Project Manager who runs his own business, specialising in interior fit-out and refurbishment projects; Linda is a specialist Speech and Language Therapist who works with individuals with Autistic Spectrum Disorders; our daughters, Ashlea and Shannen, are still at school. Linda and Andrew grew up in Durban and Cape Town in South Africa where we went to school and university before emigrating to live in England where Ashlea and Shannen were born. We're adventurers at heart who love the outdoors. We thrive on discovering and exploring new places. We thoroughly enjoy the challenge of overcoming foreign languages, meeting new people and making new friends. Despite the unfamiliarity of the Czech language, we've discovered that we can achieve anything with sign language and a willingness to have-a-go. We laugh loads and have had many memorable experiences in our Garden of Eden. We've discovered the truth of the saying that 'the best part of memories is making them'. We hope you'll visit Eden and discover that for yourselves.
Andrew & Linda Philips purchased this cottage in 2007
We found and fell in love with the Czech Paradise in 2007. Having grown up with the wild, open spaces of Africa, we were delighted to discover this little known, adventure wonderland that offers a magical escape 'far from the madding crowds' of the UK. Within easy reach of Prague, one of Europe's most beautiful capital cities, and only 1½ hours from Prague International Airport (Vaclav Havel Airport), Peace of Eden is easy to get to. Door-to-door, we can get to our cottage more quickly than Devon and Cornwall, being only a two hour flight from London Stansted. And the mystical forests, rolling hills and fascinating 'rock towns' have kept us enthralled through many holiday adventures. It still amazes us that, while Prague is such a well known holiday destination, so few British and American visitors have ventured out into the 'wilds' of the Czech countryside. With little outside influence, the region is authentic Czech. This is a rare opportunity for seclusion in overwhelmingly crowded and tourist swamped Europe. The history of the region is fascinating too. The Czech Republic as it exists today was formed in 1993 after separation from Slovakia having together previously formed Czechoslovakia. Only a few years earlier, less than 25 years ago, this area was inaccessible to Westerners, locked away behind the Iron Curtain under Communist rule. And Peace of Eden makes the perfect base from which to discover and explore this amazing holiday destination. Whether looking for an adventure or desperate for a rest, Peace of Eden is a great place to satisfy your holiday dreams.
Peaceful. Spacious. Secluded. Refreshing. Comfortable. Cosy. Rustic. On a 'road less travelled' ... always exciting, enticing, entrancing. Never boring. Accessible all year round. A Peace of Eden holiday will be enjoyable whatever the season. Each has its own enchantment. A wonderful holiday home where you can thoroughly relax and unwind.
My wife and I stayed for week at "Peace of Eden" and can only say how delighted we were with the house. The house has been refurbished to a very high standard, with great facilities. a fantastic kitchen, lounge , 4 great bedrooms and very luxurious bathrooms, 2 of which are en-suite. The location is far away from the hustle and bustle that we are used to...very relaxing from enjoying the lovely garden, the very nice weber bbq, the table tennis table and the trampoline all set up in the garden. We would certainly recommend staying here...thanks Andrew and Linda for all the help, and the brilliant directions ensuring we found our way to the house without any problems..
The location is quite remote, but a few minutes in the car gets you into Turnov, with the Lidl supermarket and other facilities that might be needed.
We were two families who stayed for 4 nights between christmas & new year. Wonderful first impressions - beautifully decorated and lots of space for us all. Great outside space too. Quiet, clean and easy to find. Very prompt & friendly communications with the owner. Only downside (for the husbands!) was the Internet not working.
Would return again, maybe in the summer so as to experience this part of the world in a different season.
We had a lovely time in this wonderful house!
Everyting was great, clean and so nice furnished.
With our owne small pond in the garden!
We knew beforehand that the cottage would be luxurious, but when we entered we were simply blown away. It is very spacious, yet cozy. The kitchen is very well equipped and there were even some board games and an ipod dock. All the furniture and equipment is like new. You can see that there has been put a lot of effort into decorating the cottage. We had a lot of fun lighting the fireplace in the living room. There also is a new fireplace in the garden. Andrew has always answered my questions very quickly and in an elaborate way. You are also provided with an elaborate booklet about the cottage, surroundings and highlights in the region. This helped us a lot, since we didn't want to miss out on any of the beautiful treats this region had to offer. I highly recommend this cottage and look forward to staying here again next year.
First arriving at the house was a very pleasant surprise and easy to find following the directions from Prague. Inside the house is extremely well equipped and we wanted for nothing. Big spacious bedrooms and bathrooms, especially the main 2 bedrooms, were beyond our expectations and the log burner in the living room and traditional Czech stove in the kitchen made the atmosphere very pleasant. The gardens are extensive and we were treated to a couple of inches of snow on our first night. There is some great walking around the limestone rock formations and some very interesting castles to visit in the immediate locality. We ate locally a few nights and loved the food and the speediest service I've ever experienced! After the hustle and bustle of Prague it was a very relaxing and peaceful place to stay and miss those dark dark nights. The only downside is that we could stay longer. All in all a wonderful place to stay and discover a part of the world we had not thought about doing so before - thoroughly recommended.
Even better than the photographs. Loads of space to spread out and enjoy. The property was immaculate, clean throughout and thoughtfully arranged with two generous ensuites, large family bathroom, all with windows and plenty of entertaing space downstairs in Living Room and separate Kitchen/Diner.. The house was cosy with real log fires, smelt divine, easy to start up and operate. Whilst it was cold outside, nice and warm inside including underfloor heating in the bathrooms - very pleasant in the mornings. Beds comfy too. We combined the culture of Prague with country walks through spectacular forests nearby.
The owner could not of been more helpful in making our stay such a pleasure
I would heartily recommend staying at the Peace of Eden

'Peace of Eden' is located in the heart of the Czech Paradise (Cesky Raj), the first UNESCO GeoPark in the Czech Republic. Although popular with Czech locals, it is relatively unknown to British and American visitors. We call it our 'secret garden' at the heart of Europe.
'Peace of Eden' is super accessible being only 1½ hours / 122 km from Prague International Airport (Vaclav Havel Airport) and 1 hour / 97 km from the centre of Prague, by car.
The region is most famous for its forests and abundance of magical 'rock towns'. These sandstone rock formations have been sculpted by the elements into natural creations of Gothic grandeur and Baroque extravagance. Along with medieval castles, neo-Gothic stately homes and other historical gems, the area is an adventurer's paradise just waiting to be explored.
Each season has its own lure - from autumn's gorgeous colours that gild the misty forests, to the magical snowy wonderland of winter, to spring's multitude of glowing greens and the relaxing warmth of summer's lazy days. For activity junkies, mountain biking, rock scrambling and climbing, hiking, downhill and cross-country skiing, river kayaking and trail running are just a few of the options that await.
For those looking for a slower pace, enjoy picnics and rambles under the forest canopy, laze next to a lake or bubbling river, explore the rock towns, visit historic attractions or just while away the hours with a great book. Sip from a tall glass of iced tea or one of the many famous local beers in the 3½ acre meadow garden. And for jaded city dwellers overwhelmed by the busyness of life, the Czech Paradise is the perfect place to escape 'far from the madding crowd' ... the area is quiet, peaceful and crowd-free.
The wide variety of scenic drives throughout the area are a delight. If you are willing to venture a little further afield then the centre of Prague is only 1 hour away, perfect for a day trip culminating in dinner in the Old Town before heading back to Peace of Eden.
Being only 45 minutes from the Czech border, it is also easy to venture into Germany or Poland to broaden your horizons. Beautiful Dresden, with its fascinating history, is 2½ hours / 180km away. Jelenia Gora, in southern Poland, is only 1½ hours / 74km away through the winding passes of the Krkonose (Giant) Mountains.
