About Urath Gibson
I am a retired teacher and my husband and I own a house next to the cottage. My husband is a retired federal government employee in Washington and we are often in Charles Town on weekends. We enjoy travelling whether it is abroad or camping in the U.S. We also enjoy gardening, the theatre, and our friends and family.
Urath Gibson purchased this Cottage in 2017
Why Urath Gibson chose Charles Town
I grew up in Jefferson County where the cottage is located and in the years since we purchased the house next door, we grew fond of this small footprint of charm next door. We continue to explore the many attractions in the County and enjoy picnics in the area.
What makes this Cottage unique
The cottage has a snug, solid feel to it and combines solid craftsmanship with modern updates. Our ongoing plan is to work on planting bulbs and perennials in the front and back areas.

Older home, comfortable, in nice quiet area, centrally located to many historical sites, museums and parks. Enjoyed walking and hiking in the area.
You were great guests, leaving the cottage in good shape. So glad the location suited your trips in the area.
Perfect for what we needed. Urath was very communicative and made it very easy as well as relaxing. Thanks again!
Come again and enjoy the area!
Sweet little cottage and great location for exploring Harpers Ferry, hiking, tubing, meandering along C&O. Fun little brewery and super welcoming bar called Inkwell's in walking distance.
You all were great guests and I am glad you enjoyed the area! Come again....
Visiting to W VA
We came down for a few days, visiting from NJ. This place is a great home away from home, if 3 days or a week, the size is right. Very clean and comfortable, kitchen has everything you need. We very much enjoyed staying there. Owner is very friendly, left a welcome wine ( thank you so much) and a binder full with every information you need.
So glad you enjoyed the cottage and area and hope you will come again!
Cute and Quaint
Great location, quiet neighborhood, clean, spacious and a very friendly owner. She gave us good directions and suggestions for places to go and see. Great place to unplug! And, a bottle of wine was waiting for us when we arrived. Highly recommended. Would stay again if I was in the area.
It was great to have Debra and her relatives take advantage of seeing many sites in the area, using the cottage as a base. They were thoughtful guests and I would very much recommend them to other hosts. Do come again!
With its close proximity to major roads such as Rt. 340 running north to Frederick, Md. and Rt. 9 that provides access across the mountain from the Washington area, Charles Town is a perfect hub for a visit. It is located in Jefferson County and is one of three must see towns in the County. Nearby Harpers Ferry(6 miles) is a National Historic Park located at the confluence of the Potomac and Shenandoah Rivers. There are exhibits, walking tours, hikes, shops, restaurants and also an Amtrak train station with daily morning and afternoon trains to Washington D.C.
Twelve miles from Charles Town is Shepherdstown overlooking the Potomac River. It is a small college town and German Street has a number of shops and restaurants.
From either Harpers Ferry or Shepherdstown you can also walk or ride bikes along the C&O Canal that runs parallel to the Potomac River.
