We arrived in the house to find the owners wife waiting for us with a log fire burning for us.The location of the house is idylic being relatively isolated and although the nearest house was about 500m away along a gravel track, the house appeared closed up and we didn't see a soul. We had spent the 2 weeks prior to our visit, camping and so our views must be taken in line with our own expectations. We wanted a clean dry house with running water a flushing toilet and cotton sheets/pillowcases, essentially a non camping experience. We found a lovely house with everything we needed internally, log burning stoves, plenty of crockery and cutlery etc. However the house had been renovated as a DIY project and it showed, and we would caution families with young children that the some of the electric sockets were hanging out of the walls. Clothes hooks in the bathroom were stuck on with sticky tape and as such were purely ornamental. Our main dissapointment however was that when we arrived we found that there was NO linen provided for any of the beds. Having booked many villas/cottages in the past we have always found there to be sheets and pillowcases and had expected the same here. Perhaps this was our error but if you don't want to sleep in sleeping bags bring your own.
The house was relatively clean when we arrived, certainly not spotless but clean enough to be comfortable and not worry too much about every mark that we might make. It felt much like being at home.
A second issue was that despite having rented a motor to attach to the rowing boat provided, there was only 1 adult life jacket at the house, three others were for babies or children up to 25kg. Whilst at the property, Lake Mien suffered from quite strong winds and although good swimmers we were no willing to head out onto the water without bouyancy aids. We tried on numerous occassions to contact the owner whilst we were away and failing that we tried to contact the agent at Swede Cottages but failed to get anyone to pick up the phone. In the end we drove to the nearest town of Tinsgryd and at the resort office (by the lake) explained our situation and were able to rent 2 further adult jackets. They were very helpful, but frankly we should not have had to spend 2-3 days trying to sort out a question of life jackets.
We understant that the owner of the property had been taken seriously ill and as such this may have impacted upon the owners level or service.
