We had never been to Hawaii so before going we researched which island would be best and ended up choosing Kauai. We don't like very touristy things. We feel like hotels and chains don't give us the full experience we desire when traveling. It was me, my husband, our 2 boys aged 1 and 3, my sister n law, and both mother and father n law. The house gave everyone their privacy but also the togetherness we wanted, was located right off the beach, and had a great feeling to it. We were quite active on this one week trip and the house was the perfect place to come back to after a long day of exploring Kauai. We cooked a lot while there and made good use of the deck. This house helped make this the perfect family vacation. Peter was very accommodating and gave us great recommendations of places to visit on the island. The location seemed very convenient for us.
The house is so close to the Moloaa Bay which is just beautiful. So easy to just walk 30 seconds to catch a sunrise. The house has nice sized rooms and was very comfortable. There is no air but wonderful trade winds so we were very comfortable. There were even coolers we could use to make lunch and take with us as we ventured around the island. It was a good location for north side activities and not too far for even the south side activities. Peter was very helpful and very responsive. He had some great suggestions which we loved - Kauai Photo Tours and Titus Kinimakas Hawaiian School of Surfing. We enjoyed eating at the Lighthouse Bistro. It was a great place to stay.
This was our fourth time staying here and we will never stay anywhere else on Kauai. There were 8 of us staying this time; 6 adults and 2 kids. The home has 4 nice sized bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, plus the outdoor shower downstairs. The home is not fancy, but very comfortable, and feels like home. The kitchen is very well equipped, has every appliance you could ever want, a laundry closet, and a gas bar-b-que downstairs.
From the lanai, you have a partial ocean view of the bay. You can hear the waves crash from every room in the house and get a nice cross-breeze, although the back rooms can get a little warm in the afternoon. The beach is literally a 30 second walk before you toes hit the sand, and our favorite snorkeling spot is in the bay, where you're a little more protected from the wide open ocean. The beach is usually empty so we enjoyed picking a different spot every day.
It's a great anchor for all your Kauai experiences. It's 30 minutes from Princeville, 20 minutes from Kapa'a, and within 20 minutes or so from most of the North shore activities like Queen's Bath and Tunnels Beach. We can hardly wait to return in a few years!
Our wonderful adventure took place the end of July, 2014. Four of us ladies, little girls at heart, discovered this sanctuary and so began the best vacation ever! With a little planning, we kept groceries sufficient in our sand castle for the amount of cooking we were willing to do. We ended up eating out only a few times, saving money for our treasures and keepsakes. The nearby gardens were lovely, the beaches were clean and beautiful, the flora was luscious. The outside shower should NOT be overlooked! In the heat of the day, the back of the house was quite warm; the downstairs shower was a luxury! Our beds were so comfortable we slept long and well. The morning and evening breezes prompted long and happy visits...the television soon stayed completely off. Views from the lanai inspired an artistic revival and watercolors soon flowed like the waves on the shore. We enjoyed the beach here and some days did not venture from this location. Oh, to hear the constant rhythm of the surf and the gentle percussion of the rain lulling us to sleep and calling to us again each new day! Thank you, Susie, for allowing us this visit with you.
I stayed in this incredible house for one week with 3 other women. We were in heaven! We had absolutely everything we needed and more! We strongly recommend that you go to the house and check out the kitchen BEFORE you go grocery shopping. We found oil, vinegar, salt, pepper, spices and some canned goods already in the house. We cooked 5 dinners in the house. It was so incredibly relaxing and the beach is just steps away - NEVER crowded. There was an abundance of bath towels and beach towels. The washer and dryer worked wonderfully. This house was a great home base for discovering every corner of the island. Susie was incredible to work with. I cannot wait to come back!
I hesitate to even share this, because I really don't want to share it and have to compete for the opportunity to stay at this very, very nice beach home. And home it is ... Hale O' Lazy Bay. This is a very complete vacation rental, as soon as you've poked around and found everything ... you realize that you have found everything that you would expect to find at your home. Plus it is clean (immaculate) and comfortable, with comfortable beds as well. And, from what I've seen in Moloa'a Bay they have the BEST front porch of any home in the area. The front porch (and thereby the great outdoors) is easily accessed by opening the 8' wide double doors from the living room ... wow, is that awesome. You'll feel right at home. You don't have to leave the house/porch ... you feel/hear/smell the ocean and beach ... but you can walk the 50' to the beach if you want ... we did. No A/C, ceiling fans in all rooms ... trade winds provide cooling. Moloa'a Bay has snorkeling (you'll have to rent your own snorkel gear, it's the only thing they don't provide), boogie boarding, sun bathing or tree shaded sleeping for a less intense beach visit ... we've personally seen Green Sea Turtles and have heard of the Monk Seals visiting. At low tide, the East side has rocks that I'm sure are great for kids to explore and find sea life up close. Parking ... I didn't mention parking ... there is just minimal public parking for Moloa'a Bay. Which is great because it deters a lot of people, minimizing the people. However, you, you get front row parking every time, all the time. Moloa'a Bay is AWESOME!
