About Glyn West

We are Glyn and Elizabeth West from Great Ayton, North Yorkshire. We have two children Joseph and Thomas. We both grew up locally and met at University. This is our holiday home that we share with you.

Glyn West purchased this cottage in 2011

Why Glyn West chose England

We purchased this cottage in October 2011 and spent 18 months refurbishing it, a real labour of love with attention to detail. We use the cottage ourselves around bookings, our weekend retreat in a rural peaceful setting.

What makes this cottage unique

Set in it own grounds the woodland with it's babbling stream, make the place perfect to relax, giving the children freedom to run free and enjoy the outdoors.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Really glad we choose your cottage for our weekend away. Great location and a fantastic cosy cottage. A real home from home, with lovely grounds.

lovely place

Just back from a 2night stay at this lovely property. Accommodation was fantastic, clean, modern and cosy. Large garden at the back with woodland area was a bonus. Kids loved exploring and finding the little surprises dotted around. Wish we had booked to stay longer. Hopefully we will return sooner rather than later. Would highly recommend.

Lovely, modern and clean

  • 5 of 5

We were looking for a nice getaway for a couple of days and the cottage was perfect. It was very clean, comfortable and quiet. Our first night we ate dinner at the Boot and Shoe in Greystoke which was lovely and only a 10 minute drive away. The next night we decided to eat at the cottage and enjoy the lovely garden. The owners were very helpful and prompt in replying to any questions we had and we loved the bottle of wine that was there when we arrived. We would definately stay there again if we visit the area.

The cottage was beautiful, finished to e very high standard.

We had a friends get together and it was just the perfect place for 3 of us. The garden was so cute with all the interesting hobbits and the tiny house by the tree. Loved it!! The bikers cafe we found was great with clay oven making and long bow construction going on, what a fabby afternoon sitting in the garden watching these take place.

We had a little trouble getting the log burner to go and bought logs for it and that was much better, it actually went very well after that.

Great week end for a catch up, thank you.

Susan

Outstanding

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from a mini- break at the cottage and we've had a thoroughly relaxing time. The property was immaculately clean and very well equipped, and the overall renovation has been completed to a very high standard! The kitchen was stocked with basics - salt and pepper, tea and coffee, a few dishwasher tabs, washing up liquid and hand soap (not to mention the bottle of wine, thank you so much!), we were even able to prepare a packed lunch for our walk in the Lakes thanks to the supply of freezer bags. My two girls spent lots of time playing in the garden and exploring its little areas, as well as making friends with Jake and Daisy, the neighbours dogs. No real complaints - yes, the blind in the twin room is very bright in the morning but my girls still managed to sleep in. Overall we had a fantastic time and hope to return again in the future.

Lovely converted barn in a lovely setting

  • 5 of 5

We arrived at the cottage to be greeted by a bottle of wine, which was great, thank you. Not only that but nearly everything necessary for our stay, kitchen cloths, washing up liquid, hand soap, dishwasher tabs, logs, fire starters and lighters, the list goes on.

The cottage was spotlessly clean and very comfortable, thanks to Glyn and family for letting us stay and for their speedy response to any queries.

The garden was a great place for our kids to explore with the woods and stream at the back. One request, could the blind in the twin room be changed to a blackout? It doesn't keep the light out in the morning. It didn't spoil our stay, it just meant the kids got us up early!

We hope to return for another stay sometime soon, thanks again for a great experience.
