About Glyn West

We are Glyn and Elizabeth West from Great Ayton, North Yorkshire. We have two children Joseph and Thomas. We both grew up locally and met at University. This is our holiday home that we share with you.

Glyn West purchased this cottage in 2011

Why Glyn West chose Penrith, East Lakes & Eden Valley

We purchased this cottage in October 2011 and spent 18 months refurbishing it, a real labour of love with attention to detail. We use the cottage ourselves around bookings, our weekend retreat in a rural peaceful setting.

What makes this cottage unique

Set in it own grounds the woodland with it's babbling stream, make the place perfect to relax, giving the children freedom to run free and enjoy the outdoors.

Guestbook comments from the owner

PERFECT BASE CAMP

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the cottage for a week and it could not be faulted. Spotlessly clean and to a high standard. It was the perfect base for us to get around the lakes and it was a real pleasure to return after a hard day on the fells and sit and plan the next day in wonderful relaxing surroundings.

We would highly recommend.

Walked in the front door and went "Wow". Lovely property and couldn't have wished for more.

Property was very clean, bright and well appointed. When we left we commented to each other that it was a lovely home that we could happily live in. Great location away from the hustle and noise, but superbly located for easily exploring the Lakes. The garden was lovely and attracted some great wildlife to watch whilst having breakfast. It was easy to find and had loads of parking outside, so moving luggage in and out was quick and easy. I would happily return here and hope that one day I do. The property was a real credit to the owners.

Comfortable, clean and beautiful surroundings

  • 5 of 5

We were welcomed by Glyn (owner) on arrival and also met his lovely wife. First impression of the cottage was homely, clean and comfortable. The decor and personal touches were modern and looked great. Beds were really comfortable and we slept well (all the walking may have helped too!). Well equipped in the kitchen with a welcome bottle of prosecco which was a lovely touch, thank you. Free supply of logs for the log burner too. The gardens were well kept and gorgeous with the little pine woods and woodland walk outside, fairy house and stream which my 8 year old daughter loved to explore. At night there is no light pollution and on a clear night you could see so many stars...lovely. Perfect position with Keswick and Windermere approximately 45 minutes away and Aira Force waterfalls approximately 30 minutes away. Would highly recommend this cottage to all.

lovely place

  • 5 of 5

Just back from a 2night stay at this lovely property. Accommodation was fantastic, clean, modern and cosy. Large garden at the back with woodland area was a bonus. Kids loved exploring and finding the little surprises dotted around. Wish we had booked to stay longer. Hopefully we will return sooner rather than later. Would highly recommend.

Lovely, modern and clean

  • 5 of 5

We were looking for a nice getaway for a couple of days and the cottage was perfect. It was very clean, comfortable and quiet. Our first night we ate dinner at the Boot and Shoe in Greystoke which was lovely and only a 10 minute drive away. The next night we decided to eat at the cottage and enjoy the lovely garden. The owners were very helpful and prompt in replying to any questions we had and we loved the bottle of wine that was there when we arrived. We would definately stay there again if we visit the area.

The cottage was beautiful, finished to e very high standard.

We had a friends get together and it was just the perfect place for 3 of us. The garden was so cute with all the interesting hobbits and the tiny house by the tree. Loved it!! The bikers cafe we found was great with clay oven making and long bow construction going on, what a fabby afternoon sitting in the garden watching these take place.

We had a little trouble getting the log burner to go and bought logs for it and that was much better, it actually went very well after that.

Great week end for a catch up, thank you.

Susan
