About Sue Farnworth

Hi, I'm Sue and have had the pleasure of owning Calabash Villa for the last 10 years during which time we have enjoyed many family holidays at all times of the year. Before settling on Antigua we considered many places, eventually checking out Antigua which ticked all our boxes, English speaking, warm and sunny all year round, beautiful beaches and scenery and friendly people. We furnished the villa to create a modern, light, spacious design that lights up as the sun shines in through the many windows. We always feel uplifted whether in the villa, on the deck, in the pool or on the beach, the blue sky, turquoise sea and lush greenery colour everything.

Sue Farnworth purchased this villa in 2007

Why Sue Farnworth chose Jolly Harbour

Alan and I bought our villa in 2007 and we have been visiting ever since often with our two grown up children and their partners who absolutely love Antigua. We often spend Christmas and New Year in Antigua and would recommend Sailing week (late April) and not forgetting Carnival ( August). Calabash is ideally positioned with all the conveniences of Jolly Harbour Marina and with several beautiful beaches within minutes For those wanting to explore the Island''s many sights, travel north to the colourful St. John's, Fort James and Dickinson Bay or turn south along the scenic Fig Tree drive to Falmouth Harbour, English Harbour and the historic Nelsons Dockyard.

What makes this villa unique

You do not need to have a car to enjoy our villa, being within walking distance of Jolly Harbour with it's restaurants, bars, shops and golf course, beautiful Jolly Beach & Valley Church Beach with beach chairs, sailing etc. For those wanting to explore further you can hire a car from Jolly Harbour for a few days and see the many sites and history of the island. On returning to the villa after time on the beach you can cool off in the pool, enjoy the sun loungers with drinks and look forward to your own BBQ as the sun sets.

There is a Management team who are happy to help you with any sight seeing arrangements and assist you during your stay at the villa.

Great time on Antigua!

  • 5 of 5

It might have been "low season" for Antigua but for us it was the highlight of our year! Five of us (parents with our grown-up children) stayed for 10 nights. With enough bedrooms to go round, a spacious lounge, a well-equipped kitchen and plenty of chairs outside we had a relaxing time. The villa itself is smart, spacious and well-equipped. With the temperatures soaring to 36C by the outside thermometer the air-conditioning struggled a little :) but the ceiling fans helped a lot. Cooling off in the pool was great!

The local supermarket is literally a 5-minute wander down the road; and once we'd got used to the exchange rate and worked out what we needed we were able to buy water, ice, food, drink and get the fridge/freezer well-stocked. Soon the "kids" learnt the routine and were wandering down there regularly :)

Beaches - we hired a car (though used the taxi to/from the airport = good idea!) - and visited about 1% of Antigua's beaches - Jolly Harbour, Ffryes, Darkwood - all very easy to get to and amazing white sand, clear water, fish (snorkeling!) and amazing sunsets.

Further afield - we went on a road trip to half-moon bay (the other side of Antigua) and back; taking in English Harbour and other points along the way. The roads really aren't as bad as some reviews make out - it's slow (20/40mph) and take it carefully (pot holes) - but we didn't have any problems (maybe low season?!). Just watch out for the speed bumps - they are the most vicious ones I've ever come across! We're talking almost dead-stop over some of them!!!

We even ventured in to St John's more than once (no cruise ships around, so it was lovely) and to Fort James. Antigua is looking a little tired, and many part complete (or part started?) developments, which is such a shame for such a lovely place. The people were welcoming and friendly; we didn't have any negative experiences.

All in all a great time and we were very sad to leave! (and the overnight flight home wasn't fun to put it mildly, but that's a different story).

Second Stay was as wonderful as the first!

  • 5 of 5

The first visit to Antigua was so great, we had to come back. We loved the villa and its location to Jolly Harbor is perfect.

We had all the privacy of the villa and the pool to relax and have fun with family, and, then we could walk or drive our golf cart to Jolly harbor / Jolly Beach. Jolly Beach has to be one of the best beaches in the Caribbean, and it offers beach activities, restaurants, and the best tropical drinks at Sharron's. Manley was our great taxy driver, who took us out on the road when we wanted to travel around the island (driving is only for the very killed and brave!).

The villa is big enough on the inside and outside for family to enjoy and not get in each others way. the home is very tasteful, and well appointed. I can only hope I can come back again (and my sisters and brothers and children hope to come back as well!).

Fantastic and lovely spacious villa in good location, close to all amenities in Jolly Harbour

  • 5 of 5

We booked this villa for a 60th Birthday celebration and couldn't have found a nicer place to stay.

The villa is very spacious. On arrival you walk into a fantastic open plan kitchen and sitting area, clean, modern with very high vaulted ceilings creating a wonderful impression of airiness and space.

The bedrooms are spacious and tasteful with one en-suite and two additional bath/shower rooms opposite the 3 remaining spacious bedrooms. All have plenty of drawer and storage space.

The villa is decorated to a high standard throughout, mainly pastel shades with an odd splash of color to enhance the overall look.

The villa has everything you'd need in terms of equipment with more than enough of everything needed, including the gas BBQ out on the pool deck.

The pool deck and pool are great, the blue decking complimenting the overall external look of the villa with plenty of space, sunbeds, a lovely shell style seat with loads of cushions and an outdoor eating area with glass topped table and chairs.

3 sliding patio doors leading to/from the pool area make the interior light and airy and give good ease of access to the pool deck.

The view from the pool deck is lovely, looking out over a lagoon/lake area and the sunset views are quite spectacular.

The service provided was excellent from the weekly pool cleaning to the villa cleaning (the mid week clean was extremely thorough and the villa was spotless on arrival after each maid visit).

Jolly Harbour and all it's amenities is a 5 (supermarket) - 8 minute walk (restaurants and bars around the marina), with a good selection of places to eat and drink.

Sue, the owner, was extremely helpful from the day of booking right up to the actual stay, answering any queries very quickly in a friendly manner, providing local information on things to do, recommendations of who to contact for catamaran cruises etc, which we used to our benefit and enjoyed some great days out.

Overall we'd highly recommend this villa and it's owner Sue (most helpful owner we've come across yet in many years of traveling).

My only other comment would be to take a torch (we used our phones) as there is one part of the walk into Jolly Harbour which is rougher than a tarmac road and without lights at night, a bit of an adventure coming back from the bars and restaurants!!

This in no way detracted from our birthday celebrations and we had a great two weeks enjoying the sun, sea, marina, great trips and this wonderful villa.

Family vacation enjoyed by all!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time relaxing for our week stay. The villa is close to everything in Jolly Harbour, great restaurants, Marinas even delivered. The villa is clean and they have everything you need and the staff are fantastic. We rented a golf cart but this can only be used in Jolly Harbour and not to be driven on the main road. Our days were spent relaxing on the beach or in the pool. Thank you for a wonderful time!
