About the property

Three bedroom, two bathroom house with space to relax or entertain

Wavecrest is in the village of Fortuneswell, overlooking Chesil Beach and close to the Weymouth and Portland Sailing Academy and Windsurfing Centre. Perfectly located for sailors, windsurfers, divers, walkers and cyclists with storage for boards, sails, bikes and wetsuits as well as a 72 hour free car park just across the road.

Our Grade II listed home on the Fortuneswell main road is one of the oldest in the village, built around 1820 from local Portland stone. Now a comfortable and cosy home with plenty of space for guests to relax, it has a large living room, eat-in kitchen, dining area for up to 10 people, three bedrooms, bathroom, shower room and a large, chill-out loft space.

On the ground floor is a hall, large living room with comfy sofas and TV and a fully equipped eat-in kitchen with dishwasher, microwave oven and griller.

There are three bedrooms and a family bathroom on the first floor. The master bedroom has a king size double, the twin room has divan beds and the children's bedroom has full-sized bunk beds. A loft ladder from the twin bedroom leads up to a large chill-out space with books, bean bags and additional air beds.

At basement level there is a large dining area with a sofa bed, drinks fridge and tea/coffee making facilities, and a shower room.

Just outside the stable door overlooking the courtyard is a secure storage area with a washing machine and tumble drier for guests to use as well as a dehumidifier and extractor fan to ensure a dry start in the morning. There is also space to store windsurfing, diving and other sports equipment including bikes.

Well-behaved, house trained pets are welcome.

About Christiane Morris

I already have two holiday homes in Malta where I grew up so am a seasoned holiday rental owner but I bought my Fortuneswell house with an eye to the future. My son, Jamie Drummond, was a ranked UK's freestyle windsurfer.

We aim to offer a comfortable, 'home from home' base for the sailing community and all other guests visiting Weymouth and Portland for competitive events or holidays.

Christiane Morris purchased this house in 2013

Why Christiane Morris chose Portland

Jamie visited the house before me and thought its space would work well for both families and groups of watersports enthusiasts who would welcome the four storey layout, the secure storage and the 72 hour free car park for their vehicles - not to mention its proximity to the National Sailing Academy and Windsurfing Training Centre. I just loved the feel of the house, the quirkiness of the village and the breathtaking views throughout Portland.

What makes this house unique

Location, location, location - perfect for a quick picnic or sunbathe on Chesil Cove; a calf-crunching walk up the Heights to see the view as far as Lyme Regis and the Isle of Wight (on a very clear day); the fabulous Crab House Cafe for the best food in the area ... or a donkey ride on the Weymouth's sandy beach. For more serious walkers, we are just 150 metres from the South West Coast Path which you can follow for 630 miles from Poole to Minehead (or just 13 miles around Portland).

Guestbook comments from the owner

Christiane's house was quite comfortable for the three of us, all adults, and could have easily accommodated two more with 2 twin beds in two of the three bed rooms. The kitchen was very well equipped and living room very cosy. Christiane's place is close to bus stops if one's wants to explore the Island or go to the coast inland. it is also 5 minutes walk to a long pebble beach which makes it easy to enjoy the day if one prefer to stay put and relax. My friends and I enjoyed our stay there and learned all about Portland and the the beautiful coast during our week in Fortuneswell.”

Relaxing holiday

  • 5 of 5

The cosy house has well equipped kitchen and it had enough space for 8 people. Ground floor had dining room, with large table so everyone could eat together!

We had two cars. There are several free parking places near, but finding a car park right next to the house was difficult in some days. For us it wasn't problem to walk a few hundred meters.

Location is great, house is located on a hill, a beautiful view to the sea.

Bus stop is just next to the house. There is very short walk to the foodstore.

There is also short walk to the beach. We also made short walking trip with children to see the olympic rings at Portland heights.

By car we visited:

- Portland Bill lighthouse - it was a stunning view at night.

- Weymouth beach - (easy access by bus), great beach for the children

- Lyme regis - beautiful town. Visited in Dinosaurland fossil museum.

Communication with the owner was easy and she had made good info package of the house.

Thank you so much Christiane!

Wonderful home!

  • 5 of 5

We had a really lovely holiday at the Wavecrest & we made use of all the facilities on offer. The bedrooms were spacious & the grandchildren loved the attic & the access to it as well as the books & games available to them. The rooms were really large & easily accommodated the 8 of us over the weekend. There was plenty of information about the house as well as details on places of interest to visit on Portland & around Weymouth. We made use of the fish & chip shop just down the road, you really must go there because the fish is delicious. Even though the house is on the main road & the traffic heavy at times it didn't bother us at all, the one exception is parking which can be a bit difficult at times but we found parking spaces in the end. Will book again if we're ever in Portland!

After seeing mixed reviews on Wavecrest I thought I'd leave my own. Upon reaching the house we were pleasantly surprised with the house. It was clean and tidy and bigger than we imagined. The house is well equipped and nothing is required other than your food etc. Kids loved the house too. My personal negative is one that the owner has no control over- the main road and busses! For such a small place the busses run late and start early eg 5am outside the front bedroom window and the road is noisy as the age of the property doesn't allow replacement windows. However positives of the house itself far out weigh that negative. My family became one again enjoying meals together and games of scrabble and seeing teenage boys laugh again without Xbox and separate agendas. I would highly recommend the house and although Portland is refreshingly sleepy we found water sport activities for the boys. Wavecrest was a great home for the week. - thank you

Owner's Response: Thank you for your balanced review. As you kindly acknowledge, we cannot control the traffic - particularly in the summer when we take down the secondary glazing in favour of fresh air. It's much quieter the rest of the year! I am so glad that your family enjoyed the house - our most positive feedback is always from largish groups who are delighted that not only can everyone either be together when they want to be but individuals can also find a quiet space to be on their own.

“Great house and base for families or groups of friends to enjoy the huge variety of things to do in Portland and further afield. The house is well-equipped and cosy with plenty of space to relax. Really handy having a great fish and chip shop within 50 metres!”
