About the property

Truly delightful Scottish cottage right by the beach, 3 bedrooms,1.5 bathrooms

Willow Tree Cottage is a beautiful renovated and extended end of Terrace cottage (there are three in the terrace). It is in Broughty Ferry, right by Monifieth and only a few miles from Carnoustie Golf Course. The cottage looks out directly over the beautiful Tay Estuary and is a stones throw from the beach.

The back Mediterranean-style patio garden is a Sun trap in Spring/ Summer, with Olive Trees and Lavender in abundance.

The cottage is wonderfully cosy in Winter - we love visiting the beach at all times of year- and sitting in the snug by the wood burner is a delight.

There are award winning Restaurants and Bars within easy reach offering a large choice of cuisine.

There is easy access to public transport, Bus stop a 5 minute walk away with regular buses going to Broughty Ferry, Dundee, Carnoustie, Arbroath.

Regular trains operate from Monifieth Station (1 mile away) and Broughty Ferry Station 1.5 miles away to Carnoustie, (1 stop from Monifieth) and connect to links further afield locally and nationally.

The cottage itself has a sizeable open plan kitchen diner, complete with gas/electric range cooker, dishwasher and washing machine, an American style fridge freezer, two wine fridges and a microwave. Adjacent to this is a beautiful cozy snug complete with wood burning stove and Sky TV. There is a separate lounge at the front of the house also with a large TV and Sky box and a decorative fireplace. There is a separate downstairs bedroom in the rear extension of the cottage with an ensuite WC and washbasin, and it's own patio doors leading to a private enclosed Mediterranean style patio garden and integral brick built barbecue.

The patio is a fantastic sun trap and there are two sun loungers, various cushions and a table and chairs to enjoy this with.

The spacious family bathroom is located downstairs, and has a beautiful free standing bath, and large recessed separate shower enclosure, as well as a WC and freestanding wash basin unit. Upstairs there is a good sized double bedroom with built in wardrobes, as well as a further single bedroom with a freestanding wardrobe. Both bedrooms have great views out onto the Estuary. To the front of the property is a paved garden, with two Adirondack chairs where you can enjoy Sun and take in the view. The cottage comes with central heating in every room and with free broadband wifi. All gas, electric, bed linen and towels are included. It is a No Smoking cottage. PLEASE NOTE (esp if mobility restrictions) that the Main Bathroom and separate Shower Room are both downstairs.

About The Owner

I grew up In Scotland, originally in the islands and Highlands, the in Broughty Ferry for 4 years as a teenager.

Originally a Nurse, then a career in Medical sales, followed by Healthcare Supply Chain and Purchasing. Finally I ran my own business in Healthcare Quality Improvement and worked/lived internationally both in the US and the UK.

My husband, 2 teenage daughters, and my dogs keep me busy and very happy in life. My motto is '"Be Kind, always, and Fun, have lots of fun!" :)

We live near London, and while we love city life, we really love visiting the cottage, where our cares just seem to melt away. Its our sanctuary, our Happy Place.

We wish our guests to enjoy the cottage and Broughty Ferry as much as we do. We are friendly, flexible, honest and appreciate similar values in guests.

We have been so lucky to have the best guests since deciding to share our holiday cottage a couple of years ago!

We have great local networks and can help with most requirements. We offer advice on restaurants to book, taxis to use, etc etc and have local property management to support our guests if/ when required.

The Owner purchased this house in 2014

Why The Owner chose Broughty Ferry

I lived in Broughty Ferry as a teenager and having an elderly father in the area go back to visit. I love the warmth and friendliness of the locals, the beauty of being by the Tay Estuary. The restaurants, the local Gin selection- and the fact I can drive to local farms and buy fresh fruit, veg and various supplies straight from the farmer.

The moment we walked into the cottage when it came on the market I fell in love with it! Its quirky, spacious, yet cosy, and right by the we love!

The views over the Tay Estuary across to Tentsmuir Forest and beach are stunning. The neighbours are friendly.

The cottage is convenient for public transport. Most of all I love walking along the Award winning beach to Broughty Ferry itself where we enjoy coffee/ brunch/ lunch- anything you like in fact! Friends and guests who visit fall in love with the area and the cottage, every time.

What makes this house unique

Open the sky light in the main bedroom (when its not raining!) and listen to the waves crash on the beach- we love this sound!

Lie on the single bed upstairs and take in the view from the window :).

Or sit in the chair by the window in the main bedroom and take in the view- perhaps with a book/ glass of wine in hand.

One of my favourite views is standing in the kitchen and looking out the door , down the side path and across the River Tay.

When the Sun is out enjoy the rear mediterranean patio garden with brick built BBQ. There are cushions available for the Sun Loungers and garden chairs/ Patio set.

The cottage is tucked away, private with a secluded rear garden/ Sun trap. Whats not to love?!!

We loved Willow Tree Cottage!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Willow Tree Cottage in lovely Broughty Ferry. It was our first time in Scotland and it was a great way to experience the local "flavor" of a small town with a history of fishing and living near the water. The lovely cottage is right next to a small walk-way bringing you directly to the beach with amazing views of the River Tay - which we enjoyed walking on or simply gazing at the sunset with a glass of wine.

The cottage itself also has two lovely patio areas with plenty of seating for enjoyable coffee hour in the morning or a barbecue in the evening. Inside, we found upscale and beautifully adorned rooms with a quaint and cozy feel. The kitchen was modern with everything we needed to cook dinners at home when we preferred an evening in. Not that there weren't enough restaurants right around the corner to go to - all of which were wonderful - from the local fish and chips, to the Ship Inn with great views of the river and local seafood favorites, to the best gin and tonics, traditional Scottish dancing, and fine dining at Forgans! All excellent and right around the corner. The owners were also delightful and overly accommodating when planning our trip.

Definitely put this gem of a place on your list of places to go and to stay at. You will relax and unwind in this beautiful and comfortable cottage by the sea!!

Owner's Response: Karen , thank you SO much for such a kind and comprehensive review. We love it when guests enjoy the area and the cottage as much as we do when we visit . This is why we chose to share our holiday home with others . There is much to delight visitors to the area and it certainly gives a great flavour of Scotland to visitors like yourselves from overseas. We really do hope you come back to visit . Regards Karen and Oliver

A fantastic property in a great coastal location

  • 5 of 5

We booked this after seeing the great reviews on trip advisor and we weren't disappointed.

Delightful views over the Scottish coastline with great walks right from the door. Between Carnoustie and Broughty Ferry it is very convenient and with a supermarket a couple of hundred yards away everything is close at hand.

A nice mix of traditional and modern. Great eat in kitchen with every appliance you could want. Huge range cooker, American fridge freezer and not one but two wine & beer coolers!

Tasteful decor and great views from most rooms over the sea. Plus a great base to visit St Andrews and Edinburgh.

It doesn't get much better than this!

Broughty ferry is a gourmet's delight with several award winning restaurants and pubs nearby. The Tayberry restaurant looking out to the beach is run by a Michelin starred chef- Tuesday is steak night so if thats your thing, be sure to book ahead. Any night is great! Sol y Sambra is a Tapas Bar- Scotlands best- book ahead, the Tapas are amazing, as are the cocktails ! Morgans is a new restaurant- not to be missed- especially on Friday and Saturday evenings when the Scottish dancing starts around 1030pm - again, book ahead. Regarding pubs The Anchor is great for pub food- and Karaoke on a Thursday night :). The Ship Inn overlooks the Harbour- try to get the upstairs table with harbour view. Visocchis is an amazing place for Pizza, Ice cream and coffee! Mitchell's is wonderful for lunch and the afternoon tea looks spectacular!

For days out look at Glamis Castle, childhood home to the late Queen Mother and often visited by the Queen as a youngster. Monikie Country Park is great for all ages- long walks, water sports and high wires, canoeing etc

The cycle/ walking path is very near the cottage and in either direction, whether towards Monifieth or Broughty Ferry the views are stunning.

The cottage looks across the Tay Estuary to Tentsmuir Forest and beach- beautiful ! Take a picnic and enjoy the facilities.

Golf- surrounded by fantastic Golf courses: Carnoustie Links, Monifieth, Panmure and Scotscraig across the water.

Be sure to visit the ancient town of St Andrews...stunning with the abbey Ruins and of course the Old Course for golf.

The Old Course Hotel is wonderful for lunch, afternoon tea or dinner.
