Overview

About the property

4 Bedrooms, 3 Bathrooms, Sleeps 8

Two great views for the price of one! Enjoy marsh sunsets and ocean sunrises from this lovely home. Once Upon A Tide sits on the marsh but also has distant views of the ocean. You truly get the best of two worlds! Notice to Renters: Folly Beach is undergoing a beach renourishment project during the summer of 2018. Please log on cityoffollybeach.com for details. I also have posted information on Attachments.

From the back porch, you see stunning marsh sunsets, wading birds and long views of the Folly River, Morris Island Lighthouse and Charleston’s Ravenel Bridge. Move to the front porch and take in ocean views and breezes, sunrises and sea birds. We recommend you bring your camera or binoculars!

The home is a block away from the beach (second row); public access to the beach is a three minute walk northeast. The home is 3 miles from the main action, known as Center Street, on Folly where you can dine at local restaurants or walk the pier at night. You will need to drive, or rent a golf cart or bikes during the day.

Once Upon A Tide is exceptionally clean and open, with windows and porches that take advantage of its great views. The main living space, with an open floor plan, is on the top floor. Here you will find a comfortable living room, well-equipped kitchen and dining area. This floor has two large porches on opposite sides of the house: one faces the marsh and the other faces the ocean. The top floor also has a bedroom with a queen-sized bed, and an attached bathroom and shower. The tiled kitchen is equipped with granite counter tops and electric appliances. Hardwoods run throughout the home.

The main sleeping quarters is downstairs, with three additional bedrooms. The master bedroom has a new king-sized bed (mattress is Serta medium memory foam I-Comfort Blue Touch 100) and an attached bathroom and shower. Two more bedrooms downstairs have queen-sized beds (one is Serta memory foam). They share a bathroom and shower. We also have available single and full-sized air mattresses with a pump. The downstairs bedrooms access porches. There is also a laundry room, with a washing machine and dryer.

The house has Direct TV and WiFi, air-conditioning and heating. Sorry but no pets are allowed. We will take stays a minimum of three nights (a week in summer). For week-long stays, we prefer Friday to Friday rentals but are flexible. Check-in is at 4:00 pm. Check-out is at 10:00 am.

Advisement: There is no elevator at this home, and you will need to walk up two flights of stairs to get to the main entrance. The main door has a keypad on the door. You and your guests will be given an access code to use every time you enter the front door, since it locks automatically when you shut the door. A second entrance abuts the downstairs marsh bedroom.

We have a charcoal grill downstairs in the garage. Thank you!

Why Laurie Walden chose Folly Beach

It has been a longtime dream to have a vacation home on Folly Beach, as our family has vacationed there for more than 20 years! I love this property because it has exceptional views of the marsh and the sea.

What makes this house unique

I can sit on my back porch and watch egrets, herons and even wood storks and then walk to the front porch and see pelicans fly by. Every night I marvel at the sunsets over the marsh, and if I can wake up early enough, watch the sun rise over the ocean.

A piece of heaven located in South Carolina

  • 5 of 5

Homestly the very best house we have ever rented. It truly made you feel like you were home. The beds were perfect very comfortable. Now besides the amazing home that there no complains i have to tell you something. This house has one of the most astonishing views you can see. We had dinner on the back porch every night to enjoy the mesmerizing sunset. I will be back 100% to stay at this same house and continue exploring the beauty of South Carolina

Quiet and lovely

  • 5 of 5

The home was well equipped and comfortable. We appreciated the quality beds. Beautiful views from the porches and lovely afternoon breezes made it comfortable to be outside even when the afternoons were quite hot.

Unrealized potential...

  • 3 of 5

This house could be great but it’s not yet there. A couple of things not mentioned in the overview, (1) you have to climb to the third floor, not all of it covered, to access the house...every time. (2) you must enter a six digit key code to open the door...every time.

Also, many lights either didn’t work or were unplugged and the bath mats were so thick you couldn’t open the bathroom doors or you would wedge the door on the mat. On the main level the bathroom is in the bedroom and the switch did not work anything in the bedroom so finding the bathroom at night was a challenge. The sheets were rubbish but the master bed was extraordinarily comfortable for a rental. We also enjoyed the charcoal grill, however, the outdoor spaces were not really big enough to accommodate our group which was far less than the number this house will sleep. Plus grilling on the ground level with the kitchen three flights up with a six digit key code made grilling less enjoyable than it could be.

The neighborhood is quiet but it is 3 miles from the commercial area on the island which has parking fees of $15 - $20.

There were ample towels in the hallway but I think it’s a stretch to say the kitchen is well stocked and you have to scootch sideways to access the sitting area. We found the house dark and with the many posted rules and regulations a little unwelcoming. It could be nice with more attention to detail but right now it’s just not.

Owner's Response: Hi Bob, thanks for giving us feedback on your vacation experience. Your feedback is very important to us, as we are new homeowners to this vacation home, and have just started renting it out this past year. You made some good suggestions that we will address. Currently, the home does have an elevator, but we are investigating adding a small elevator to handle suitcases and groceries. We have added a notice to the house description to make it clear that renters have to walk up two flights of stairs for the kitchen or top level bedroom. (We had this information in another section). I am sorry that the switches were not working. The issue will be fixed for future renters. We purchased the house because of its great location, which is a walk away from the iconic Morris Island Light House Preserve. We like the quiet. The hustle and bustle of Folly Beach night life is three miles away, which we have posted on our description. We are sorry that you thought the house rules and city rules and regulations are unwelcoming. The City of Folly Beach has made its renter policies extremely strict in the past 2 years, and it is imperative we keep those posted for all renters to abide by. We hope you will stay again, and hope we can fix any negative feelings you had on your past vacation. Thanks so much for your helpful feedback.
