The vacation of a lifetime is awaiting those who are willing to journey to paradise and beyond. The exclusive island of North Captiva is the pinnacle of luxury and privacy, the spot where Floridians go to vacation. The only way to get there is by boat (ferry) and once on the island golf carts are the only way to travel. The pace of North Captiva Island is slow and smooth, a great romantic getaway for couples or a chance to spend quality time with your family and make memories that will last a lifetime. The Little Ark is within a short walking distance to one of the finest secluded pristine white powder beaches in Florida. North Captiva Island offers the tranquility of Florida's natural environment, where you can enjoy walking for miles and not seeing any signs of civilization except the footprints you leave in the sand.

What is the Little Ark?

It is the name of our home (every home on North Captiva has a name). It was the name of the house when we bought it. It was named The Little Ark because in 2004, Hurricane Charlie, a category 4 hurricane, ripped through the island causing major damage. Our house, The Little Ark, sustained very little damage and sailed through the storm.

Charming home on beautiful Captiva Island

Wow, I can't say enough about North Captiva Island and The Little Ark! Once you board the ferry, you just feel all the stress of life fade away! The island is very quaint...if you're looking for nightlife and action, this is not the place for you. Little Ark provided all the comforts of home, fully stocked kitchen, was a close walk to the beach and even provided beach chairs, towels and umbrellas! The pool was an added bonus and it was really refreshing after a long day at the beach! The golf cart was nice to have as it allowed us to tool around the island when the temperatures were too hot. I am definitely coming back! Thank you Maria for opening up your wonderful home! Cheers

Great time

  • 4 of 5

Had a wonderful vacation on North Captiva Island. Very secluded, practically no-one at the beach even on perfect sunny days. My favorite part of the Island was driving around on the golf cart at night through the sandy trails and looking at all the great homes. Be sure to bring enough supplies with you, there is a small convenient store on the island but the selection is slim and fairly pricey (beer but no liquor store). Would recommend the trip for anyone who enjoys piece and quiet and getting away from the hassles of everyday life. I did get cell phone reception (sprint) on the island, although I kept it shut off most of the time. The Little Ark was a 3 minute walk to beach access or 60 seconds by cart. We did have a golf cart malfunction, but the owner immediately replaced it with another one she had available, so we didn't miss a beat.

Wonderful, relaxing vacation

  • 5 of 5

My family (3 kids - 15, 12, 8) stayed at the Little Ark house for 6 nights. Marie provided excellent instructions on how to prepare for our stay on North Captiva making the grocery shopping, ferry ride and luggage delivery very stress free. The house had everything we needed, including beach towels, rafts, beach chairs and umbrellas which allowed us to pack light. In addition the house provided plenty of laundry soap, dishwashing detergent, trash bags, paper towels, etc which we have run out of when renting other houses. The house was very clean, neat and well organized making our stay pleasant. Our kids enjoyed having a private pool to play in when not on the beach and a hammock to take a nap on when tired.

North Captiva Island is a wonderful place to stay. The beaches were beautiful, the wildlife was amazing and the nature preserve was incredible. The kids enjoyed seeing manatees (including a baby with its momma), Dolphins, tortoises, stingrays, and crabs to name a few. My husband and I walked thru the nature preserve wood area to the beaches on that side of the island and walked along the beach to the furthest point where the island used to be attached to Captiva island and didn't see one other person until on our walk back! We enjoyed taking the golf cart around the island to tour the island.

We also enjoyed a excellent meal at Barnacles the night we were too tired to cook.

Our family was in agreement that we would all return to the island and the Little Ark house.

Ready to go back again!

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely love it! I had a small hesitation due to the seclusion and having children. My 13 and 15 year old sons insist that they could go for a month. If you want family time its the best place to go. If you want shopping, nightlife, and business this is not for you. Marie was wonderful at helping me walk thru the process of arrival. The system set up for taxis and groceries makes the whole getting there really easy. Additionally, she met us at the dock and had our things delivered to the home. Marie gave us a tour and made sure we were settled. She does have in place contacts for anything that may break or issues that might need addressing. We never needed to contact them. The home is well cared for and everything is in good working order. We are happy to recommend Little Ark.

This vacation was and always will be one of our families favorites! We were a little concerned being so secluded that the kids (17,15, 12) would have enough to do but there was always things to do--or not do! The house was so well stocked with everything you might need and then some. The pool was great, so close to the ocean, the roof top deck had views/sunsets to take your breath away! Bring lots of food and drinks and your swimsuits and you will be set for the week. The only possible thing I could say negative was the bed was advertised as a Sleep Number Bed, but wasn't. It WAS one of the newer memory foam mattresses (I think) and in very good condition etc, but not to our back's liking! The rest of the house was so great though I almost hate mentioning it. Marie is such a pleasure to work with, you can't go wrong renting from her! We will surely be coming back!

Owner's Response: I am so happy you enjoyed your stay at The Little Ark and North Captiva Island. The private pool and private roof top hot tub with views of the gulf is why people fall in love with The Little Ark. Once people vacation here and see how quaint and peaceful it is on the island with our wonderful beaches and sunsets they come back year after year. So sorry about the sleep number bed...it was about 5 years old and it was time to get a new bed. Thanks for the heads up and will change the information concerning the bed in my advertisement.

A slice of heaven!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for a week with our boys ages 6 & 8 years old. This house was so perfect in so many ways! This is not the fanciest house on the island, but if you are ok with that, then stop looking elsewhere! The proximity to the beach cannot be beat for this price, and the fact that the home has its own pool is priceless!! This was by far the best vacation we have taken! It was amazing how "busy" we stayed on such a remote island. We started each day with a kayak trip, then hit the public pool. Came home for lunch on the screened porch. Then went to the beach, either riding our bikes or taking the golf cart. But quite honestly, it's within walking distance. We collected shells, saw dolphin, manatee, sting ray, osprey, tortoise, crabs.....the list goes on. My boys couldn't get enough. The beaches were amazing and unspoiled. Many nights we would drive around the island in the golf cart, and find a little beach to watch the sunset. On almost every night the sun was setting to the west while there was a rainbow to our east! It could NOT have been more beautiful! If you are looking for a great house on the most amazing island, and looking to unplug for a while.....this is the place to be. The Little Ark has all you need to make the vacation perfect.
