The vacation of a lifetime is awaiting those who are willing to journey to paradise and beyond. The exclusive island of North Captiva is the pinnacle of luxury and privacy, the spot where Floridians go to vacation. The only way to get there is by boat (ferry) and once on the island golf carts are the only way to travel. The pace of North Captiva Island is slow and smooth, a great romantic getaway for couples or a chance to spend quality time with your family and make memories that will last a lifetime. The Little Ark is within a short walking distance to one of the finest secluded pristine white powder beaches in Florida. North Captiva Island offers the tranquility of Florida's natural environment, where you can enjoy walking for miles and not seeing any signs of civilization except the footprints you leave in the sand.
What is the Little Ark?
It is the name of our home (every home on North Captiva has a name). It was the name of the house when we bought it. It was named The Little Ark because in 2004, Hurricane Charlie, a category 4 hurricane, ripped through the island causing major damage. Our house, The Little Ark, sustained very little damage and sailed through the storm.
Customer Service! Without this, renting from a homeowner can be a scary experience! My guests all comment on how helpful I am and how welcomed they feel when they arrive on the island. I love helping you plan your trip and enjoy sharing my home and the island experience with you. I want you to feel 'welcomed and at home' , as if it was your own beach house so that you always feel that you have a special place to come back to.
Kevin and Marie McGillicuddy purchased this house in 2009
If you are looking for a peaceful, relaxing beach vacation on a small secluded island than you will fall in love with North Captiva Island and The Little Ark!
No Cars, No Crowds, beautiful beaches, magnificent sunsets, quaint island with golf carts and bikes, enjoy nature.
We have enjoyed our stay here so much. The relaxed, peaceful and beautiful atmosphere created everything we needed for a perfect honeymoon, and it was! The house was wonderful for the two of us and we would love to come back again with family and friends to share.
The Little Arc was a wonderful gem close to the beach with a wonderful heated pool & gorgeous sunsets from the rooftop terrace with hot tub. Perfect size house for two with all amenities of home. Marie was very accoumdating with changing our dates to enjoy the most of our vacation/anniversary trip. Would highly recommend for the serene romantic setting.
If you are looking for a nice getaway place without the high dollar ticket. This is your place! The amenities were just perfect for what we needed. We were a small group without kids that just needed to get away. However, could definitely see bringing back my kid for our next trip. Pool and hot tub on the property, golf cart and club access, and easy access to the beach are the highlights of this little gem. We also loved the enclosed outside shower, the privacy, and the views of the stars from the roof deck. Hoping to be back sometime in our future. Thanks for letting us stay and enjoy this lovely hideaway!
Wow, I can't say enough about North Captiva Island and The Little Ark! Once you board the ferry, you just feel all the stress of life fade away! The island is very quaint...if you're looking for nightlife and action, this is not the place for you. Little Ark provided all the comforts of home, fully stocked kitchen, was a close walk to the beach and even provided beach chairs, towels and umbrellas! The pool was an added bonus and it was really refreshing after a long day at the beach! The golf cart was nice to have as it allowed us to tool around the island when the temperatures were too hot. I am definitely coming back! Thank you Maria for opening up your wonderful home! Cheers
Had a wonderful vacation on North Captiva Island. Very secluded, practically no-one at the beach even on perfect sunny days. My favorite part of the Island was driving around on the golf cart at night through the sandy trails and looking at all the great homes. Be sure to bring enough supplies with you, there is a small convenient store on the island but the selection is slim and fairly pricey (beer but no liquor store). Would recommend the trip for anyone who enjoys piece and quiet and getting away from the hassles of everyday life. I did get cell phone reception (sprint) on the island, although I kept it shut off most of the time. The Little Ark was a 3 minute walk to beach access or 60 seconds by cart. We did have a golf cart malfunction, but the owner immediately replaced it with another one she had available, so we didn't miss a beat.
My family (3 kids - 15, 12, 8) stayed at the Little Ark house for 6 nights. Marie provided excellent instructions on how to prepare for our stay on North Captiva making the grocery shopping, ferry ride and luggage delivery very stress free. The house had everything we needed, including beach towels, rafts, beach chairs and umbrellas which allowed us to pack light. In addition the house provided plenty of laundry soap, dishwashing detergent, trash bags, paper towels, etc which we have run out of when renting other houses. The house was very clean, neat and well organized making our stay pleasant. Our kids enjoyed having a private pool to play in when not on the beach and a hammock to take a nap on when tired.
North Captiva Island is a wonderful place to stay. The beaches were beautiful, the wildlife was amazing and the nature preserve was incredible. The kids enjoyed seeing manatees (including a baby with its momma), Dolphins, tortoises, stingrays, and crabs to name a few. My husband and I walked thru the nature preserve wood area to the beaches on that side of the island and walked along the beach to the furthest point where the island used to be attached to Captiva island and didn't see one other person until on our walk back! We enjoyed taking the golf cart around the island to tour the island.
We also enjoyed a excellent meal at Barnacles the night we were too tired to cook.
Our family was in agreement that we would all return to the island and the Little Ark house.
We absolutely love it! I had a small hesitation due to the seclusion and having children. My 13 and 15 year old sons insist that they could go for a month. If you want family time its the best place to go. If you want shopping, nightlife, and business this is not for you. Marie was wonderful at helping me walk thru the process of arrival. The system set up for taxis and groceries makes the whole getting there really easy. Additionally, she met us at the dock and had our things delivered to the home. Marie gave us a tour and made sure we were settled. She does have in place contacts for anything that may break or issues that might need addressing. We never needed to contact them. The home is well cared for and everything is in good working order. We are happy to recommend Little Ark.
What is there to do on the island? Relax! At our home you can read, watch the TV, use our video tapes and DVD's, play board games or do puzzles, relax in the hot tub, or swim in the private pool. You can walk the beach, collect shells, swim in the larger pool at the club or in the gulf, cruise in a golf cart, play tennis, or work out at the fitness center. The island has an abundance of wildlife (including the gopher tortoise that lives in the yard!) and is an excellent place for bird watching. Rental of the house includes 4 person golf cart . All the amenities of the North Captiva Island Club Resort (2 pools, lighted Har-Tru tennis courts, spa, sauna, kayaks, children's play equipment) is an additional $75 signup fee. For an additional cost you can rent jet skis, boats, fishing charters, day trips. Boat dockage at the marina can be arranged at an additional cost.
