Overview

Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday apartment in Camden & Covent Garden - Bloomsbury mews apartment

3 bedrooms, 2 shower rooms, large sitting room + kitchen, beautifully furnished

Here is the perfect budget apartment, right in the centre of London, offering a high standard of comfort in an attractive interior, but for an affordable price. It's on the direct Tube train line from Heathrow, so is ideal for many tourists. If you are looking for an interesting place to stay in London, which has character and comfort, and which is extremely well equipped, then this is for you. It offers excellent value for money for large families and groups who want to be really central and within walking distance of London's tourist sites, such as Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, Houses of Parliament and Buckingham Palace.

Our apartment oozes with history and character. It is located in one of London's historic, cobbled 'mews' streets, where the horse-drawn carriages of the wealthy Bloomsbury intellectuals would draw up. Charles Dickens lived just around the corner.

The mews still has the original cobblestones while the properties along its length are built from the mellow London brick, characteristic of the 1800's. You can easily imagine yourself living in a wealthy neighbourhood from a Dickens novel. Not surprisingly these houses and flats are now highly desirable residences, with potted plants on the cobbles outside the doors and pretty flowering window-boxes in the summer. Our apartment is on the first floor ( one floor up from the ground floor) of one of these very attractive 200-year-old buildings. Because this is a mews, there is no through-traffic, so our apartment is relatively peaceful and quiet for a residence in the very centre of London.

The interior has been furnished to a high specification We have a beautiful original oak floor throughout, with attractive beds, high quality mattresses, and lovely furnishings and bedding. Our traditional sash windows (typical of London) let in loads of light and add to the character of the apartment. Although they are not new, there are two adequate bathrooms (with showers) and again, although it's not new, there is a functional and well equipped kitchen.

Best of all, our apartment is just two minutes away (really) from the Tube station at Russell Square - and that's on the direct Tube line from Heathrow. So if you are arriving at Heathrow you can quickly reach your accommodation without having to change trains or heave your luggage around. A real bonus!

The apartment is also very convenient for arrivals at St Pancras train station. Our Tube station at Russell Square is just one stop away from St Pancras (for the Eurostar trains to/from Europe or the Thameslink trains to/from Gatwick and Luton airports), or it's a very easy walk from St Pancras to the apartment down a straight road.

Bloomsbury is also the perfect central area from which to explore London. Please do Google it. You can easily walk to so many tourist sights, and because the Tube station is so close it's really convenient. Our apartment is particularly close to Covent Garden (for the shops and restaurants) and to Theatreland if you fancy a London show. The British Museum is just a short walk. Nowhere is far away, so even if you take a taxi back it will be a short journey and therefore it will not be expensive.

The apartment has three full-size double bedrooms, and the beds have high-quality mattresses, comforters and linens so that you really feel you're staying in a good hotel. There is a double bed, a king-size bed (US=queen) and a super-king-size bed (US= kingsize). Alternatively we can arrange one of the bedrooms to have two single beds. There are also two folding beds, each suitable for a child or very small adult (less than 10 stones / 140 pounds / 63 kilos), so we can accommodate a group of eight. The three bedrooms are very similar in size, space and attractiveness, so no one will feel they have 'pulled the short straw' !

The shower rooms each have a shower cubicle, sink, mirrored toiletries cupboard and WC. We provide clothes airers (to use with the washing machine) and we will give you plenty of soft egyptian cotton towels,

There is a spacious sitting room with coffee table, dining table big enough for 8, satellite TV, and superfast wifi which is free.

The kitchen is just off the sitting room, offering all you would need for self-catering.... a hob, oven, microwave, fridge-freezer, washing machine, toaster and kettle. We have provided lovely glassware and attractive white crockery.

The flat is well heated with gas central heating.

The character of the accommodation is really highlighted by the lovely old oak flooring throughout, which gives a warm homely feel.

The apartment is on the first floor. Please note, in the UK this means it is one level up from the ground floor. It has its own front door at street level, leading to stairs (about 12) up to the first floor, and then another door into the sitting room, making it very safe. The whole apartment is on the same level.

Best of all the location of the apartment is hard to beat. It really is right in the heart of the centre of London, so you can walk to most of the places you'll want to visit, and you are surrounded by an area filled with interesting cafe's and restaurants.

The other big difference between our apartment and many others are the personal touches we offer. We are not a rental company, just an English couple who adore London and enjoy introducing others to all it has to offer. We have lovingly furnished and decorated the apartment to this very high standard because we really want our guests to have a fantastic time - happy guests mean more to us than high profits. So unlike some apartments, you will not find cheap beds, cheap mattresses, hard pillows...or any of the other horrors you can find with the squeeze-every-penny-of-profit apartment rental companies. We pride ourselves on giving a very friendly, helpful and professional service. We want you to feel you made exactly the right choice!

Overall we are happy to offer you a super three-bedroom budget apartment in a fantastic location, at a very fair price, which is ideal for visitors to London who want to be able to walk to most of the tourist sights and activities. We hope it will give you plenty of fond memories of London to take home.

About Jan

Hello. I'm really pleased you like the look of my apartment enough to want to know about the owner. Until recently, I have had a really busy life as the MD of a research company, but now I just do occasional research projects and spend the rest of the time looking after this apartment and its guests. I absolutely love it !

I have always been a bit pernickety about detail. At home I'm one of those people who arranges the glassware in neat rows, shines the cooker every time it has been used, and has to place the cushions in exactly the right place on the sofa - you know the sort! So I think I'm quite well qualified to run a rental like this.

My philosophy is not to squeeze every last drop of profit out of running the apartment, but rather to get satisfaction from seeing people arrive and like what they see, and then at the end to hear how comfortable they have been and what a great time they've had. That is so much more pleasurable than a few extra pounds in the bank.

So I do hope I get the chance to meet you...

Jan purchased this apartment in 2013

Why Jan chose Camden & Covent Garden

I looked at loads of properties in London before I saw this one, but the minute I stepped inside I knew this was absolutely right. It's bright and airy, really well laid out, with loads of space. Above all, it has a lovely feeling of character and space.

What makes this apartment unique

The location couldn't be better....

* it's truly right in the centre of London, near to just about everything

* The Tube station is right around the corner, no more than a 2 minute walk

* It's on the Piccadilly line, so you can travel in directly from Heathrow, without any changes, and be at the apartment very quickly

* St Pancras train station (for trains to Europe or Gatwick airport) is just up the road, either a walk or one stop on the Tube

* It's in a quiet cobbled mews with a real historic feel

* There is a shopping centre round the corner, with two good supermarkets plus lots of cafe's and restaurants

* London's best restaurant districts - Lambs Conduit St and Covent Garden - are really close

* Theatreland is really close

* It has good bedrooms of roughly equal size, so no one pulls the 'short straw'

Lovely family flat in a fantastic location!

  • 5 of 5

We couldn't have found a lovelier or more welcoming place to stay in London. This flat is superb in all ways- quiet, well furnished, all the amenities, and comfortable. It is easy access to the Tube, safe at night when returning late, and close to all those shops at the Brunswick Centre- really, you want for nothing. We loved our stay and would highly recommend this place to travellers looking to be in the heart of London, but in a little oasis of tranquility. Plenty of things nearby, like the British Museum and with the Tube around the corner, easy to get to everything else. And did we mention how quiet it is?! Loved it! Would definitely book again.

Well furnished, beautifully located flat

  • 5 of 5

We seven adults (three couples and a daughter) shared the flat for a week. It was easy to split up and travel to various sites either by Underground (don't forget to get an Oyster card) or on foot. The Russell Square station is very close and has only 15 steps, and the stairway to the flat has a very sturdy handrail, so fine for an older individual. Within walking distance were the British Museum and the British Library, as well as the Foundling Museum and the Charles Dickens Museum. We dined in several the numerous eating places that are only a short distance. The North Sea restaurant on Leigh Street serves very fresh fish dishes. Skip doing laundry - the machine is small and London dress is pretty casual now.

Very convenient, centrally located nicely furnished London flat.

  • 5 of 5

We rented this flat for eight days and found everything as advertised. It is very well furnished, lots of stores, restaurants, grocery stores and Russel Square tube station within a casual 3 minute walk. Leister Square, Convent Gardens, Piccadilly Circus, the Eurostar staton are all easily walkable but are also on the Piccadilly line accessible from Russel Square underground station. It can very comfortably accommodate six adults. The owner's daughter met us at the assigned time to let us in and since we had no issues with the flat, we didn't have any need to contact them during our stay. However, we sent them several emails just to let them know everything was going great and they responded very quickly. Would definitely stay again during a future trip to London.

Great location - central & quiet

  • 5 of 5

My husband, four young children and I stayed here in April 2016. It was perfect - comfortable, clean, well equipped, and so conveniently close to transport, shops, parks and playgrounds. It will be our first choice for our next visit, if Jan will have us.

Perfect home base from which to explore London

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 4 found this to be an ideal space for our week-long stay. Our younger children had never been to London before, so we wanted a central location from which we could explore the city but also be able to regroup for lunch or a short nap if needed. The unit is well-appointed with plenty of room for us all to relax comfortably in the Living Room or to decamp to our own private bedrooms as needed. The kitchen is fully stocked with pots, pans, and other cooking hardware essentials. Having two separate bathrooms cannot be over-rated. As others have commented, the mews on which the flat is located is remarkably quiet for being in the middle of London. Indeed, the street is so quiet that it's easy to be taken aback by an occasional "big-city" noise - a car horn or a garbage truck, for example - until you remember than you are in the middle of one of the largest cities in the world.

The location is really amazing. A well-provisioned shopping center is just around the corner complete with grocery stores, restaurants, coffee shops and other essential locations for the traveler. A short walk brings you to points of interest including the British Museum and Covent Garden for those days where roaming far afield is not in the cards. For days when you do want to go farther, the Russell Square tube stop - with direct service to and from Heathrow - is just on the other side of the block. And if that isn't enough, you can catch National Rail trains at the King's Cross and St. Pancras stations just a short walk to the north.

I recommend this listing without reservation. We were only four, but the space would easily accommodate six or even eight if there were children in the mix. I also have to say that interacting with the owner throughout the reservation and arrival process was a pleasure; she was very easy to work with and was able to meet us personally to give us an excellent overview of the surrounding neighborhood and nearby attractions. If you do stay on a Saturday, be sure to grab a bite at the food stalls set up in the shopping center around the corner. I sincerely hope to be able to revisit this space in the near future.

Ideal location for our family of 4

  • 5 of 5

Where do I begin? This flat provided all the essentials we needed for my wife, myself, and our 2 children (ages 8 and 12.) As for location, it's just round the corner from the Russell Square tube station on the Piccadilly line, and also The Brunswick Centre, which has 3 grocery chains, an assortment of restaurants, and other boutique shops. The small lane where this flat is located is very quiet - particularly for a city center location! The kitchen is well stocked for essential cookware and tableware. The heating and hot water capacities were more than adequate for our party of 4.

One suggestion for those arriving by air to London - if you can fly into Heathrow Airport, the Piccadilly tube line goes directly from the airport to the Russell Square station. Very convenient for both arrival and departure!

Jan is the essence of a gracious hostess. She greeted us on our arrival at the flat and provided details on the surrounding environs. She was also resourceful for other questions which she responded to promptly during our stay.

Our apartment is perfectly located in Bloomsbury, right in the very heart of the centre of London, so most of the sights can be reached on foot. The British Museum is just up the road, and all around you have interesting shops, cafes and restaurants ideal for a tourist visit.

This area is London at its best, with beautiful Georgian houses often arranged around a central square of garden. Some of these gardens are exquisitely planted with flower borders, trees and lawns...and best of all they are open and free to visitors.

Bloomsbury is right next to Covent Garden, Theatreland and the shopping district around Oxford Street. Hence some of the capitals most exclusive boutique hotels are to be found here.

Here are some of the places you might want to visit, with the time it will take you to walk to them...(we have walked most of these ourselves to check they are accurate) Of course, you could also take a Tube or a taxi, but by giving you the walking times you can see we are genuinely right in the middle of London....
