Chalet Joli, completed in 2013, is a beautiful new mountain chalet that boasts an extensive open plan living space with high beamed ceilings. The large picture windows give a wonderful feeling of light and space. Overlooking the Plan-du-Fou pistes of Nendaz, the mountain meadows of Isérables and the Rhone valley, the views from the lounge and surrounding balconies are breathtaking.
Aside from the views, the lounge has deep, comfortable sofas, a log burning fire, flat screen HDTV with approximately 180 internet channels and DVD/bluray player all linked to home cinema system, and free high speed WiFi. Sliding doors from the lounge/dining and French doors from the dining/kitchen areas lead to the balcony which wraps around the chalet on three sides. The balcony is furnished with relaxed outdoor seating.
The chalet has four bedrooms that provide space for 10 guests to sleep comfortably. There are three spacious bedrooms to the front of the chalet that can be ziplocked together to create extra large double beds or kept separate as twin rooms. All have French doors leading onto a terraced area overlooking the valley and mountains. One further bedroom, with bespoke full-size bunk beds for four people, has been designed as a haven for kids of all ages! It has a flat screen HDTV, internet connection, DVD/bluray player, Wii, iPhone/iPod dock... Bed linen provided is 200+ thread count Egyptian cotton. All bedrooms have a hairdryer available for use.
There are 3 bathrooms all of which have toilet, wash basin with lighted mirror, and roomy showers. One of these bathrooms also has a full sized bath to relax in. Two fluffy towels per guest are provided.
To the right of the main entrance to the chalet, and well under the eaves, is a separate ski room with heated boot warmer for 10 pairs of boots. There are racks for both skis and snowboards, and hooks, shelves and baskets for other ski/boarding equipment.
Beyond the ski room is a laundry room. This contains an 8kg load washing machine, condensing tumble dryer, pulley airer, iron and ironing board.
The chalet has underfloor heating throughout, powered by an eco-friendly air source heat pump, maintaining a constant temperature throughout the colder months.
Chalet Joli has a double garage accessed directly from the main road. This provides parking for two cars and mountain bikes. There is also space to park off-road in front of the garages too. During the summer months further off-road parking is available and can be accessed from the lane that runs above and to the rear of the chalet. To use this lane during the winter months chains are recommended.
A 5 minute walk down hill will bring you to the high speed télécabine, and a further 2-3 minute walk will bring you into the centre of the village. Alternatively, the free ski bus stops almost opposite the chalet at the “Vouatère Parc” stop. Going down the hill and one stop will brings you to the télécabine, while going up the hill four short stops will brings you to the Les Etablons chair lift.
The name Chalet Joli arose from just a little rearrangment of our initials. Jono and Louise, with their daughters Olivia and Izzy, welcome you to their home in the mountains. Fall in love with the place... we have.
As you will see from my last review, I simply cannot recommend the beautifully appointed Chalet Jolie enough. We are a family of 4 and our friends are a family of 5, the layout is perfect to accommodate all. I really like the fact that there is no major master suite, the rooms are made up to suit an even sharing arrangement.
This year we spent more time in the village as we were there for 2 weeks. Bamboo bar was good for Après Ski and the fireworks on NYE were impressive. The area was desperately short of snow again this year but we still managed to ski when it suited us, most runs were open. The chalet is ski in ski out but obviously no snow made that impossible for us, this does however give me room to praise the free bus service that runs daily & promptly throughout the villages.
Jono & Louise are a pleasure to deal with and their neighbours are lovely! We will definitely return to La Tzoumaz, it has taken a little piece of our hearts and given us wonderful memories!
We had the pleasure of staying in this beautiful chalet for Christmas week with our friends, the house was immaculately clean when we arrived (SwissKey Chalet who manage the property were excellent) and the facilities available in the house are second to none. The boot room is spacious & well set out as is the house itself, as well as wifi & excellent satellite television there were also board games to enjoy. As we were going to be there for Christmas Day we emailed Louise to ask if the kitchen was fully equipped.......we laughed with embarrassment when we actually saw it! The bedrooms are welcoming & comfortable all with views to die for.
I cannot recommend Chalet Jolie enough, we truly did not want to leave.......I would 100% recommend you book for next Christmas but sadly we've beaten you to it!!
Thank you for the memories.
Spent a lovely 10 days in Chalet Joli. Quiet but very friendly village with more than everything we required for our stay. Thoroughly recommend the trotinettes for an exciting descent down the mountain. Easy access to Sion, Thermal spas of Ovrannaz and Lavey. Lac Leman and the beach were only 45min drive away. So much more we want to do...
Chalet Joli is situated in the quiet, family-orientated village of La Tzoumaz, adjacent to Verbier. It is close to the main télécabine and has ski-home access.
At 1575m altitude, the chalet enjoys spectacularly uninterrupted views over the Rhone valley and mountains. The vast 4 Vallées ski area (Verbier, La Tzoumaz, Nendaz, Thyon and Veysonnaz), boasting some of the best skiing in Europe over its 410km of runs, is just an 8 minute ride in the fast télécabine. From the top of Savoleyres (2354m) you have the choice of the quieter, snow sure, north facing slopes of La Tzoumaz or across to Verbier’s main runs, snow park, and off-piste routes. The Vallon d’Arbi route itineraire will bring you back to the pistes of La Tzoumaz and, via the Bar Etablons which can provide a well earned drink, there is a skiable back route path to Chalet Joli.
All this is accessible in the summer months too, when the télécabine will take mountain bikers, hikers and those just wanting something to eat in a mountain restaurant.
Slightly further afield the Verbier Golf course and the PGA course at Crans Montana are both easily accessible in the summer. On the other hand, if you prefer to take things a little easier, then the thermal spas in Saillon and Ovranaz are both close by. With over 300 days of sunshine the area is also known for its wine.
The village of La Tzoumaz itself offers everything that you need, from bars and restaurants, bank, supermarket, boulangerie and patisserie, post office, tennis courts, indoor swimming pool, sauna, outdoor ice skating rink (winter months only), horse riding, fishing, ski school, crèche and kids club, ski and mountain bike hire shops, to a 10km toboggan run... which, in the summer, you can do on a scooter!
Chalet Joli is easily accessible:
The closest international airport is Geneva, just 1 hour 45 minutes drive from La Tzoumaz. The motorway follows Lac Leman and then the Rhone valley to Riddes (J24). From here it is only a 13km climb up to the village. Transfers are available if you do not want to drive yourself. Sion has an airport too, around 30km away.
Swiss trains are incredibly reliable. The train from Geneva will take you to Martigny where you can change to a local train to Riddes. The bus service would then bring you up the mountain. Alternatively taxi transfers are available for the remaining part of your journey from Martigny. All amenities in the village are within walking distance of Chalet Joli so a car is not necessarily required.
Many people do make the journey in their own cars. Routes across Europe are quick and the French tolls not too expensive. Just remember, if you are making the journey during the winter months then you must carry snow chains (and be able to use them). Although the Swiss are very good at clearing the roads you don't want to get caught out. Driving yourself does give you the opportunity to stock up on groceries in the hypermarkets of Martigny or Conthey both approximately a 25 minute drive from Chalet Joli.
