Overview

About the property

Quality accommodation for up to 8 people, perfectly located in Mevagissey

Courtyard Cottage is a Grade 2 listed "family friendly" property in the picturesque Cornish fishing village of Mevagissey. Dating back to 1830, this 3 storey property has recently been renovated to a high standard from top to bottom.

Situated 200 metres from the harbour and just 20 metres from the car park, Courtyard Cottage is ideal for families to explore the region with beaches, cliff-top walks and the Lost Gardens of Heligan only minutes away. Perfectly located in the village, the cottage is just a short level walk to the restaurants and pubs in the narrow cobbled streets, but far out enough from the hustle and bustle to be quieter at night.

Courtyard Cottage benefits from a well equipped kitchen, modern bathrooms and double glazing whilst retaining many original character features including wooden floors, granite fireplace and low ceilings in some places as you would expect in a property of this age. As you come into the cottage, you enter the large kitchen / dining room. The kitchen is very well equipped with separate fridge and freezer, integrated dishwasher, large electric range cooker with 2 ovens and a washer dryer. The large oak dining table will comfortably seat eight people. The kitchen and dining room on the ground floor have under-floor heating. Heated towel rails in the bathrooms and Rointe electric wall heaters throughout keep the cottage warm and cosy all year around. Split over 3 levels, you will find that you have plenty of space to relax and watch the world go by. There are 2 Xboxes (with games), DVD player (with over 100 DVD's) and iPod docking stations. Free Wi-fi plus 4 TV's (up to 46 inch) with Freeview and a selection of family games should provide enough entertainment to keep everyone happy in between trips out and about. The family bathroom with bath and separate shower enclosure is on the top floor whilst there is an additional shower and toilet on the middle floor, next to the 4th bedroom. The master bedroom has a king size bed and a two-seater setee and one of the other double bedrooms benefits from a zip and link bed, which can be configured as a super-kingsize or two 3ft single beds. All of the bedrooms have wardrobes and chests of drawers. Stair gates are fitted and there is also a travel cot and high-chair available at no extra cost. Safety restrictors are fitted to all of the sash windows.

Weekly rates include all linen and towels, electricity and a parking permit for 1 vehicle. Additional permit can be purchased through ourselves at the discounted rate of £35 per week.

Sorry, no pets allowed and this has been our policy since the renovation works were completed. Synthetic fibre quilts as standard and anti-allergy pillows available upon request.

Saturday is our normal changeover day and we usually operate on a weekly basis.

Another excellent holiday at Courtyard Cottage

  • 5 of 5

This is the third year we have stayed at Courtyard Cottage and it is still a perfect holiday destination for getting around Cornwall, offering all the comforts of home.

The cottage is really clean, well maintained and very modern with a beautiful kitchen and accompanying equipment. There are little things left for you that are essentials like milk, tea, coffee and sugar as well as washing up liquid, dishwasher and washing machine tablets. We found cling film and bacofoil, even some brown sauce. It saves having to pack every last thing that you would normally need for self catering.

The beds are very comfortable with nice fresh linen and towels. Hand wash is left in the kitchen and bathrooms along with fresh flowers and a gift to greet your arrival.

There are plenty of TVs to watch, a DVD player and X-box if you like that sort of thing. Games and DVDs are provided with an assortment of board games and books if you have a rainy day.

It is a few minutes walk to the harbour which is very pretty and you can watch the fishing boats unload their catch of the day in the evening.

There is plenty of information about places to visit and eat in the cottage with recommendations from other travellers.

We always use the local restaurants and have not been disappointed with any of the meals. We have eaten in the Maharajah Indian restaurant, The Wheelhouse, Sharks Finn and had the best fish and chips from the chippy that we have eaten anywhere.

The local bakery has lovely fresh bread every day and there is a pasty shop and local general store as well as a green grocer.

There are lovely walks along the cliff paths from Mevagissey, we particularly like the walk to Goran Haven, its 6 miles return and we always stop and have a coffee at the beach cafe at GH, the public toilets at GH are now maintained by the local residents and are very clean with hand wash and decent toilet paper.

We had trips out to Falmouth, Padstow, St Ives and Mousehole, maximum drive was just over an hour.

I would recommend this property to everyone, although it sleeps 8, my husband and I love the space we get in a bigger property so we can have a relaxing week.

The owners are very accommodating and welcoming, all my emails are answered almost immediately and nothing is too much trouble for them to make sure you will have a great holiday.

We are already looking forward to our holiday in Mevagissey and Courtyard Cottage next year.

Exellent property, great location

  • 5 of 5

A clean well appointed property with more than enough facilities for 8 people. Superb location next to carparks and within 5 minutes walk of the Harbour. Entertainment facilities provided with lots of room to enjoy them. Enough TV's for everyone to watch their own program. Kitchen has everything one would need for self catering. There are no hidden extra's the price you see is the price you pay in total.

Amazing place with a fantastic base!

  • 5 of 5

The house is really a home from home and probably better equipped than our own! It is a really lovely family house with plenty of room and lots to keep the children entertained. Very well furnished, tasteful and comfortable with all you need and more, the beds are very comfortable and there are two showers and a bath. The house itself is in a perfect location, just 3 minutes walk to the harbour at Mevagissey (great for crabbing and great museum in season), with lots of lovely pubs and restaurants. Highly recommend The Fountain for Sunday lunch and also the Mevagissey Male Voice Choir who sing there on a Monday. The Ship Inn is also a lovely quaint pub. We went out to a couple of the local beaches (Charlestown and Carlyon Bay), The Eden Project was great for all ages and also The Lost Gardens of Heligan which has a great farm shop too. We easily managed to fill a week, and in February! Thanks for a fab stay - we will definitely be back!

Clean, Comfy, Spacious Cottage

  • 5 of 5

7 of us stayed the week here at John & Kate's cottage. Everything was perfect from the welcome pack of coffee, tea, sugar & milk. To the fresh flowers and the treasure hunt for Tom, who enjoyed his treats.

The cottage was very clean and spacious with very comfortable beds, plenty of fresh clean towels and a settee that eats you up. Lot's of games and Dvd's and 2 xboxes to keep the kids amused on a rainy day or nighttime. In the kitchen there is everything you require so that if you want you can cook, the cooker is fab!!! We had a problem with the hot water and i rang John on the Sunday and he was there within the hour and sorted out the problem. I would recommend this property to anyone wanting to stay in the area. Very handy and the car park is across the road. Very quiet in the property. Also pop to number 5 for fab food. Can't wait to return to John & Kate's soon.

Beautiful cottage, fantastic location, great hosts

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful cottage, fantastic location and wonderful owners...

I cannot express just how lovely Courtyard Cottage is, the pictures online look great and in the flesh it's equally if not more impressive. John and Kate really have put in great work with the place in modernising it but without going overboard, it's wonderful.

John and Kate are super hosts too, we were able to meet with them in person and Kate provided the little ones with a tour of the cottage.

We also had my parents staying with us and they were equally impressed.

We had a fantastic week in Mevagissey and were blessed with sunshine throughout our stay. The cottage is so close to the centre of the village and harbour, that even after a day at the beach, it was no effort to head out for crabbing or a swim after tea.

I love Meva and now my 5yr old son is in love with it too. He has been drawing pictures and talking about it still, weeks after our stay.

We're hoping to return next year and hopefully, as my parents did with me, every summer.

Having experienced John and Kate's hospitality and cottage, I know where I'd like us to be staying.

The South West of Cornwall has a wide variety of attractions to explore. With it's mild climate Cornwall is home to many gardens and National Trust properties. The Eden Project and the Tall Ships Harbour in Charlestown are both within 10 miles of Mevagissey and Truro with its magnificent cathedral and numerous shops is 20 miles away. Fowey, Gorran Haven and the Roseland Penninsula are also popular local destinations. Walk along rugged coastal paths or long sandy beaches, Cornwall has something for everyone, young or old.

Mevagissey has numerous restaurants and family friendly pubs, often hosting live music. Being small, Mevagissey has escaped the commercialisation of other Cornish seaside destinations and has a selection of interesting independent shops. Having made its wealth from pilchard fishing, Mevagissey once had 9 butchers shops. With its double harbour, Mevagissey is one of only a few working fishing villages left in Cornwall and you can take a pleasure cruise or try mackerel fishing whilst enjoying the glorious views of the Cornish coastline where you may catch a glimpse of seals, dolphins or basking sharks. There is a model railway and free museum within the village along with an activity centre which has a variety of activities. There is also a local scuba-diving club and the Pentewan cycle trail has lots of level stretches through the woods following the river. Towards the end of June Mevagissey celebrates Feast Week, a week of family fun, music, and floral dances through the streets. There is a small beach in the harbour and Portmellon and Pentewan beaches nearby. New Year's Eve is not to be missed as all the locals are in fancy dress so don't forget your outfit to see in the New Year.
