Courtyard Cottage is a Grade 2 listed "family friendly" property in the picturesque Cornish fishing village of Mevagissey. Dating back to 1830, this 3 storey property has recently been renovated to a high standard from top to bottom.
Situated 200 metres from the harbour and just 20 metres from the car park, Courtyard Cottage is ideal for families to explore the region with beaches, cliff-top walks and the Lost Gardens of Heligan only minutes away. Perfectly located in the village, the cottage is just a short level walk to the restaurants and pubs in the narrow cobbled streets, but far out enough from the hustle and bustle to be quieter at night.
Courtyard Cottage benefits from a well equipped kitchen, modern bathrooms and double glazing whilst retaining many original character features including wooden floors, granite fireplace and low ceilings in some places as you would expect in a property of this age. As you come into the cottage, you enter the large kitchen / dining room. The kitchen is very well equipped with separate fridge and freezer, integrated dishwasher, large electric range cooker with 2 ovens and a washer dryer. The large oak dining table will comfortably seat eight people. The kitchen and dining room on the ground floor have under-floor heating. Heated towel rails in the bathrooms and Rointe electric wall heaters throughout keep the cottage warm and cosy all year around. Split over 3 levels, you will find that you have plenty of space to relax and watch the world go by. There are 2 Xboxes (with games), DVD player (with over 100 DVD's) and iPod docking stations. Free Wi-fi plus 4 TV's (up to 46 inch) with Freeview and a selection of family games should provide enough entertainment to keep everyone happy in between trips out and about. The family bathroom with bath and separate shower enclosure is on the top floor whilst there is an additional shower and toilet on the middle floor, next to the 4th bedroom. The master bedroom has a king size bed and a two-seater setee and one of the other double bedrooms benefits from a zip and link bed, which can be configured as a super-kingsize or two 3ft single beds. All of the bedrooms have wardrobes and chests of drawers. Stair gates are fitted and there is also a travel cot and high-chair available at no extra cost. Safety restrictors are fitted to all of the sash windows.
Weekly rates include all linen and towels, electricity and a parking permit for 1 vehicle. Additional permit can be purchased through ourselves at the discounted rate of £35 per week.

7 of us stayed the week here at John & Kate's cottage. Everything was perfect from the welcome pack of coffee, tea, sugar & milk. To the fresh flowers and the treasure hunt for Tom, who enjoyed his treats.
The cottage was very clean and spacious with very comfortable beds, plenty of fresh clean towels and a settee that eats you up. Lot's of games and Dvd's and 2 xboxes to keep the kids amused on a rainy day or nighttime. In the kitchen there is everything you require so that if you want you can cook, the cooker is fab!!! We had a problem with the hot water and i rang John on the Sunday and he was there within the hour and sorted out the problem. I would recommend this property to anyone wanting to stay in the area. Very handy and the car park is across the road. Very quiet in the property. Also pop to number 5 for fab food. Can't wait to return to John & Kate's soon.
Beautiful cottage, fantastic location and wonderful owners...
I cannot express just how lovely Courtyard Cottage is, the pictures online look great and in the flesh it's equally if not more impressive. John and Kate really have put in great work with the place in modernising it but without going overboard, it's wonderful.
John and Kate are super hosts too, we were able to meet with them in person and Kate provided the little ones with a tour of the cottage.
We also had my parents staying with us and they were equally impressed.
We had a fantastic week in Mevagissey and were blessed with sunshine throughout our stay. The cottage is so close to the centre of the village and harbour, that even after a day at the beach, it was no effort to head out for crabbing or a swim after tea.
I love Meva and now my 5yr old son is in love with it too. He has been drawing pictures and talking about it still, weeks after our stay.
We're hoping to return next year and hopefully, as my parents did with me, every summer.
Having experienced John and Kate's hospitality and cottage, I know where I'd like us to be staying.
The house certainly has the "Wow" factor. Attention to detail is clearly a passion for the owners. It was sparkling clean and very welcoming. The owners are always happy to help with any queries. We would recommend staying here to anyone and plan to return. The central location was great for the lovely shops and restaurants and only a short drive to local attractions like The Eden Project.
My husband and I stayed here last year and were so impressed that we went again this year.
The cottage is very modern, a lovely kitchen which has everything including tablets for the dishwasher and washing machine, dishcloths, washing up liquid, even food bags and bacofoil. The nice touches are the milk left in the fridge, biscuits tea, coffee and sugar for that much needed cup of tea at the end of the journey. The two bathrooms are equally modern and very clean, the towels are new and white as opposed to old and grey. There are four lovely bedrooms with new and clean duvets and pillows - Foggarty goose feather and down - I normally travel everywhere with my own pillow but this is one of the few places I don't need to take my own.
Although there was only two of us I can see how the cottage would suit a family as it has all the amenities required including a high chair, 2 X-boxes with games, DVDs, board games a selection of reading books and TVs in every room.
The sofas are to die for, once in they envelope you and its hard to leave them behind.
I am a very fussy person where cleanliness is concerned but I found this cottage was spot on, well maintained and has those little touches which make your stay home from home.
It is in an deal location for the two minute walk to Mevagissey Harbour where there are plenty of restaurants and bars to choose from with varying prices for all budgets, Chinese takeaway not tried but we have eaten at the Indian restaurant which does take away, and it was a lovely meal for a change of cuisine.
There are places to walk along the cliff path - I can recommend the coastal walk to Goran Haven and back 7.5 miles, but Mevva is equally central to going to visit other places in Cornwall. We found travelling around very easy but beware of the hiked up car park charges in Cornwall in general.
It is also nice to relax and watch the world go by around the harbour, it is interesting watching the fishing vessels bring their catch in.
I would recommend this cottage and will be going again, the owners were extremely accommodating of the many questions I asked before we travelled and replied to all my emails very promptly. There was no hassle with gaining access to the property as it has a key safe which we used when we went out each day to prevent losing the key.
All in all we have had another lovely holiday.
The property was better than described.
It was clean, well stocked with catering facilities, and the bedrooms had more than enough storage for clothing.
The entertainment facilities were outstanding for both adults and children. The kiddies treasure hunt on arrival was a great idea and kept them occupied while 'moving in' took place.
The location is ideal for a stay in Mevagissey with a 5 minute walk to all the shops and harbour.
The communications, both online and in person, with the owners were friendly, informal and very informative.
Cottage comfy & onvenient for extended family holiday with 4 bedrooms and spacious living room and good big dining table in kitchen for all to sit around.. Only had trouble with clothes stand - wouldn't stay up! Good location in the town, quaint streets & harbour with good class of independent shops, good choice of eating pubs & restaurants. Relaxing and quiet town a working fishing port with plenty of interest. Beaches a short drive - unspoilt and uncommercialised. Coastal scenic walks and Heligan gardens & Eden Project nearby both superb visits for all ages. Good car parking deal next to property.
The South West of Cornwall has a wide variety of attractions to explore. With it's mild climate Cornwall is home to many gardens and National Trust properties. The Eden Project and the Tall Ships Harbour in Charlestown are both within 10 miles of Mevagissey and Truro with its magnificent cathedral and numerous shops is 20 miles away. Fowey, Gorran Haven and the Roseland Penninsula are also popular local destinations. Walk along rugged coastal paths or long sandy beaches, Cornwall has something for everyone, young or old.
Mevagissey has numerous restaurants and family friendly pubs, often hosting live music. Being small, Mevagissey has escaped the commercialisation of other Cornish seaside destinations and has a selection of interesting independent shops. Having made its wealth from pilchard fishing, Mevagissey once had 9 butchers shops. With its double harbour, Mevagissey is one of only a few working fishing villages left in Cornwall and you can take a pleasure cruise or try mackerel fishing whilst enjoying the glorious views of the Cornish coastline where you may catch a glimpse of seals, dolphins or basking sharks. There is a model railway and free museum within the village along with an activity centre which has a variety of activities. There is also a local scuba-diving club and the Pentewan cycle trail has lots of level stretches through the woods following the river. Towards the end of June Mevagissey celebrates Feast Week, a week of family fun, music, and floral dances through the streets. There is a small beach in the harbour and Portmellon and Pentewan beaches nearby. New Year's Eve is not to be missed as all the locals are in fancy dress so don't forget your outfit to see in the New Year.
