Jim or Mirie Burns
Cancelled bookings will not receive a refund.
Upon arrival Jim was nothing but accommodating. I could not have asked for a more peaceful getaway. The rental is perfect for a couple who is looking to get away and enjoy the wonders of the river. In the early morning and evening there is a family of otters that come out to play/eat.
Waterside cabin on Rainbow River is ideal for nature lovers
I stayed three nights in the "blue cabin" in early April and thoroughly enjoyed my time there. The cabin is small and not suitable for more than a couple, but is great if you enjoy nature.
I have been visiting the Rainbow River since the late 1960s. It is probably my favorite place in Florida. The cabin, which is right next to the river and has a large screen porch with a wide-angle view upstream, is mainly one room that includes a bed, couch and kitchen. It has a TV with cable as well as a microwave oven. The cabin grounds are probably the best feature, with a large waterfront area that includes an L-shaped dock over the water, a swing near the river, two hammocks, various lawn chairs and a long, covered picnic table as well as a gas grill for outdoor cooking. A few friends visited for an afternoon picnic, and everyone complimented the property. A pair of otters are visible every morning and afternoon in the river, and come very close to the property early in the day before the parade of boaters begins to appear on the river. The Rainbow is crystal clear with beautiful hues of blue and green from the riverbed rocks and vegetation. Fish, egrets, cormorants, woodpeckers and other birds are plentiful also, and the property is well buffered with green space filled with giant oaks and cypress trees which add to the tranquility of what is already a peaceful environment at all hours. It is mostly quiet at the cabin, other than from people who mostly float by on kayaks and other watercraft, mostly in the afternoon. The owner provided three kayaks for our use, and we did use them. There are small islands directly across from the property, and the view of the river directly across is an area that is largely undeveloped. I would recommend this cabin to anyone who enjoys this type of non-commercial, natural experience.
