About Az Agricola Murogrosso
Murogrosso is a wine cellar, with a selective production of fine wines ... qualified and courteous staff of winemakers and sommeliers will welcome you to taste the secrets of the traditional "barriques". Mario Soldati * (1906-1999) : " The nobility of wine: is not a detached or abstract subject, that can be judged by drinking a glass, or two, or three, of a bottle that derives from a place where we’ve never been. What do our senses tell us, when sipping a wine produced in place, in a landscape that we’ve never seen, a land where we’ve never stood, and people we’ve never looked in the eye, or shaken their hands? Little, very little . ...... You should go to wine, not that the wine comes to you. "
Why Az Agricola Murogrosso chose Fabro Scalo
The villa is in the countryside, surrounded by beautiful vineyards, part of the property which provides high quality wines, produced in the cellar with the possibility of visits and tastings. Murogrosso is the perfect starting point for day trips thanks to its strategic location whether in the search of wellness and cusine, such as thermal waters and truffles, or sightseeing to major cities such as Orvieto, Assisi and even Florence or Rome. Podere Marone can also be easily reached by those who do not have a car, being just a short walk (1,500 m) from the station of Fabro – Ficulle which is on the main line Rome - Florence. All Regionals trains stop at Fabro - Ficulle; The travelling time is about 01:35 hours from Rome Termini and 1.55 hours from Florence S.M. Novella. The Regional Trains are of average frequency, whereas the fast trains that run between Rome and Florence are about every 2 hours. Hiring a car is essential for those who wish to visit the surrounding areas. Podere Marone is proud to announce a favorable agreement with the car rental company called Picchio & Stella located at only 400m from the Station who have a good selection of vehicles of all sizes. It is highly recommended that should you wish to book a vehicle through Podere Marone, that you send a request at the same time as the reservation and your chosen vehicle will be delivered to the station at the confirmed time of arrival.
What makes this Villa unique
Podere Marone and the Mediterranean diet The Mediterranean diet is progressively attracting worldwide interest for its proven value in maintaining optimum physical conditions and natural defences towards common diseases. It is based, as is known, on the prevailing consumption of vegetables, proteins, olive oil, lean meats. The Azienda Agricola Murogrosso offers guests of Podere Marone, extra virgin olive oil and a few bottles of wine of our own production. From the end of May to early June, guests can also enjoy fruits such as cherries and plums from our trees. We also give guests the possibility of free collection of our vegetable garden products: you will find, according to the seasonal period, tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, courgettes, strawberries, celery, fennel, spinach, salad. The natural cultivation in open fields, rather than in a greenhouse and the absence of forced irrigation, to increase the volume and weight of products, and switching quickly from the garden to the kitchen give these vegetables flavour and taste significantly different from products purchased in supermarkets, as you can immediately detect from your the first experience. Interested visitors will be accompanied in the garden and educated about the choices, method of sampling and the first treatment of the different vegetables. Those who wish to know the most appropriate cooking procedures and preparation of various dishes of the Mediterranean cuisine and the most suitable condiments will receive the friendly help of a member of staff.

Thanks to property location, equipement, spacious house, wonderful pool area me and my family spent amazing two weeks in Umbria, special attention and thanks to Margherita and Deborah, welcome package and cake :O), during our stay we enjoyed beautiful sunny days (that views to surrounding hills !) and marvelous evenings with sunset views from private patio.
Really special place ! Important is that property is very close to main roads including Autostada del Sol, train station (we made trip to Rome) and close to Fabro Scalo village with all what You need, supermarket, bars, pizza, coffee ...
We visited Azienda one day and bought couple bottles of local vines produced in this place now we may think about Umbria during testing
Thanks to the owners for this wonderfull place
Really charming site, view, and accomodations, but uneven
The house is situated in a beautiful site, and the views are lovely. Fabro scalo is situated in a terrific area for sight-seeing in Umbria, Toscana or Lazio. The house is comfortable, and the pool in full sunlight, so even in September, (although the water is a bit chilly) the area is warm enough to enjoy the sun and the swimming. Included in the rental are some bicycles, which can be used on some of the foot/bike paths near by as well. The house itself has three large bedrooms, and the master bedroom is en suite. The othe two bedrooms share a bath, andare comfortable enough, but the beds are small (in one room the twin beds were 31.5 inches in width, so quite narrow for full grown adults. The manager mentioned that the matresses were to be replaced, which is good as they are not all that comfortable. The house itself is situated one flight up from the ground level, and is not all on the level. One of the bedrooms is down three steps, one bedroom is up one step and the bathroom is down one step. I mention this because it is quite easy to forget, and trip over the step, as one of our group did. Warning strips need to be placed on these steps for safetly. The kitchen is adequately supplied, but could use some more utensils, especially for those who intend to go to the nearby weekly markets so that they can cook. Dishes and cutlery for eating are ample, but knives for cutting up meat and vegetables are sparse. All in all we had a very enjoyable vacation, and found the house comfortable and the area really interesting with plenty to do. We did have some problems, including difficulty with WiFi which the property manager tried to resolve as best as possible. I would also say to be cautious about the issue of air conditioning and its cost. We did not use the units, but somehow the meter indicated that we had used it. To be on the safe side, I would hand the property manager the controllers to the units upon arrival, so that you can prove that you did not use the units since you would not have access to them. The house was cleaned once a week as promised, and fresh towels provided at the same time. The waher works well and the dishwasher is new. It was a bit annoying, however, to find we had to supply dishwashing liquid and dishwasher soap as well as toilet paper. Having recently rented a house in Mexico for a month with all of this supplied, it was a bit surprising to find the cleaning products were to be supplied by us.
Thank you very much or your feedback, we are pleased that you enjoyed the property. Your valuable suggestions will help us better the positive experience enjoyed by clients. I would however like to clarify regarding the cost of the A/C. As you rightly noted there was an error in the final meeting reading which was carried out in your presence both on arrival and your Sunday morning 6:30am departure, however it is correct to point out that in good faith we did NOT ask you to pay. We would like to apologies again for the inconvenience
Beatiful views, lovely spacious gardens and pool, really friendly hosts, accomodation slightly basic
We had a great time, and really enjoyed the spacious gardens, views and pool. Plenty of shade by the pool and lots of sunbeds/chairs, even toys and inflatables. The air con in the house was a godsend, though quite expensive, and there was good wifi. The accomodation was slightly basic, very clean, but the beds were not comfortable (apparently new mattresses are on order) and we had a few problems with the fusebox tripping and dishwasher not working well that the hosts were very helpful in diagnosing and fixing/replacing. Margarita the agent was lovely, friendly and helpful, fluent english speaker. Deborah the lady who met us and did cleaning was also great. Had a great morning out at the vinyard and wine cellar.
Was good to have bikes available for rides - though they needed a bit of TLC - again, when we asked the hosts they got spare parts etc.
Accomodation up on first floor meant lots of going up and down the main stairs as the covered verandah and BBQ are on ground floor, might not be not ideal for very young kids or those with mobility challenges. Access is via a fairly steep gravelly drive, which was a challenge for my parents with a caravan, but the hosts arranged a 4x4 to pull it up - nothing was too much trouble for them.
While we were there there was a festa di contadina in the village Fabro Alto which was good fun. It is 10-15 mins to walk into Fabro Alto and not the most attractive Umbrian village, though there are lovely places nearby. I would say a car is a must. It is well placed for a visit though, with a train station with regular trains to Rome or Florence or elsewhere and near the main A1. Orvieto is nearby and gorgeous, as was Citta Della Pieve. Some lovely countryside places to eat fairly nearby too.
Overall a lovely week.
Ideally located in the Umbrian countryside, the Villa is only minutes away from major roads that give you easy access to great destinations all around. We took full advantage of this and enjoyed the quiet of the villa when relaxing after our excursions. It's spacious and comfortable with wonderful views of the surrounding hills. Imagine Sangiovese wines and sunset on your own patio.
The property has fabulous views from all angles. The pool is very private and the views of the surroundings while swimming are lovely. The house is located on a hill which made the views spectacular.
We were very welcome by Debora and Margherita who kindly brought us a delicious cake during her visit. We had the chance to meet the owner who was a charming gentleman. They were all very attentive to our needs and very responsive.
The house was very comfortable and well- equipped. It is close to Fabro Scalo which has shopping facilities, a few bars and restaurants. Definitely no need to travel far to eat out and have a drink with the locals.
I would recommend to friends. We had a really wonderful two weeks.
Great villa, fantastic location &well looked after
. The listing of the property was accurate.
. The property was spotless when we arrived.
. We were made to feel at home and well looked after by the managers of the property Margherita and Debora. Leading up to our holiday Margherita was of great help in coordinating our arrival and suggesting ideas for our stay. During the holiday she also dropped in with some local baked goods! As we opted to get the train to Fabro rather than drive we needed to get from the station to the house (apx. 2km). We were planning on getting a taxi from the station but instead Debora picked us up and even took us to the local supermarket to stock up on food! On our day of departure Debora again ferried us to the station which was much appreciated. The owner of the property also made us feel welcome when he dropped in briefly to say hello on the Friday. Overall the level of customer service was exceptional.
. Without a car we could not travel especially far locally. However due to the property's location between Rome and Florence we were able to make the short (apx 20min) walk into Fabro to the train station and take the train (apx 2 hours) either way to each of these fascinating cities. A much anticipated highlight was the wine tasting which was again arranged at our convenience. This consisted of a tour of a local winery by its manager, which was patiently translated by Debora. This was followed by tasting of the wine and snacks. We tried three different bottles, and were gifted anything we didn't drink to take away. The only local restaurant which we had time to get to was the Ristoranti Fabro La Locanda di Desideria. This was located on the hill opposite the house (apx 25 mins walk). The food was delicious and the owner was again friendly and welcoming. Much of the rest of our time was spent at the property eating, drinking, swimming and sun bathing.
. Overall the holiday was very relaxing in a large part due to the competence and help of our hosts. I would thoroughly recommend the experience to friends and family.
Fabro is located at the centre of a very interesting area of western Umbria and southern Tuscany, an area rich of historic buildings, old villages and towns, art treasuries, panoramic itineraries.
In not more than one hour of travel it’s possible to reach by car a number of famous sites: Such as the famous Montepulciano, Montalcino, Pienza (Tuscany) not to mention some small old villages that are worth visiting for having saved their ancient structure and characteristic rural atmosphere. Among them let’s mention Parrano (8 km), Monteleone d’Orvieto (8 km), San Casciano dei Bagni (22 km). On the road for Parrano, at 4 km from Podere Marone, there is a spring of warm sulphur water, which has been recently conveyed to a small pool, where is possible to bathe. This site, which is known as “Tane del Diavolo”, is also interesting for some underground caves that were inhabited in prehistoric times. A well-organized centre for thermal baths is located at San Casciano dei Bagni.
