Quarryman's cottage in dramatic surroundings

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed the quietness and the closeness to both sea side and mountains in our Nantlle cottage. The fact that both the row of cottages and the slate heap surroundings is a reminder of the areas principal source of income years ago was a surprising bonus. We went to Anglesey, Conwy and climbed Mount Snowdon on our three full days, all of which were within easy reach from the cottage. The lateness of the season (November) stopped us from taking full advantage of the garden, but it must be a major benefit in the summer.

A busy week

  • 4 of 5

Overall the cottage provided us a good base for our travels and the facilities it offered supported us well.

As it was a cold week the Log Fire was used well. After a couple of days the house was nice and toasty. Although we'd note that slippers are essential for a slate floor.

The Netflix was a nice touch, as it provides a good backup for those rainy days or lazy nights.

The overall mix of facilities was good. However not all were fully functional.

Nantlle Valley was a good location and we enjoyed the quick walks by the lake.

A cosy base from which to explore Snowdonia.

  • 4 of 5

The purpose of our visit was to climb Snowdon and despite some foul weather for June there was a break in the wind and rain that and that's what we did. Ty Nant's position in the small village of Nantlle is ideal for accessing the Rhyd-Ddu and Snowdon Ranger paths which are only 3 miles away through the stunning Nantlle Valley. The house has all the amenities that you need, when returning from a day out exploring in the national park. The log burner is a right treat and keeps the house cosy and wall and the 2ft thick walls keep out the wind and rain. For what we needed, a base to explore from Ty Nant ticked all the boxes.

A gem of a cottage in snowdonia

  • 5 of 5

When we walked in, we were amazed that it looked better than the photos with many extra personal touches to make us feel pampered. The cottage has been furnished to a high standard which was reassuring and the inclusion of Netflix as part of the wifi was a pleasant surprise even though we didn't have an account and could use theirs. Beds are very comfortable with lovely pillows. Very clean bathroom and kitchen with everything you might sensibly need in a week's stay. They even left some choc ices, ice, teabags, sugar , toilet roll and dishwasher tablets as these might be overlooked when piling things in the car. Parking outside very easy. Excellent views all around. Definitely come here again :)
