I am a retired contact lens optician in Wiltshire, I enjoy the relaxation of going to friendly Cyprus for holidays.
I play golf, walking, and cross stitch, and am involved in my local church.
I have enjoyed being involved with enquiries I have received while booking myhideaway apartment. It is specially pleasing when guests return for their second and third visits, after enjoying their holidays.
Ruth Cooling purchased this apartment in 2009
Peyia is such well located and friendly village It is just great to be in the center and close to everything
Secluded and quiet location and yet close to everything, very quiet pool you would often be the only ones there so like having a villa but cheaper
My hideaway was in a nice quiet area we enjoyed the patio in the mornings and evening there was just the two of us,a very helpful folder with info on places around info about shops just everything you need to know, even a mobile to call key holder if needed who we did meet and was very helpful he was to,coral bay lovely sandy beach also corella beach nice fine sand safe for children the pool also lovely we have only praise for the apartment and Ruth we are already planning our return next year
My hideaway was a perfect home for our 2 week stay in Cyprus. With 3 small children we felt safe and were very happy with the amenities - all our kids wanted to do was be in the lovely pool. Peyia is such a beautiful location with amazing beaches and within an easy drive of everything we needed. In the kids words 'Our best holiday ever'!!
Cyprus, the third largest island in the Mediterranean, enjoys sunshine (320 days) a year making it the ideal holiday destination all year. With great opportunities to explore , beaches, coastal rock formations, mountains, and villages, there is extensive archaeology, and history. Something for everyone. Birdwatching in Cyprus is popular being along the main migration route . Mid April is an excellent time for twitchers.
4 Popular championship Golf courses within 20-40 mins. Nature and culture. Areas of great natural beauty in the Akamas Peninsular, or around Mount Olympus, for walking and cycling, Diving and water sports, Amazing water park with great variety of rides, Quad biking, go karting, ; horse riding are all popular.
Peyia (Pegeia) is a large, attractive, popular and friendly old village nestling in the hillside about 8 miles north of Paphos, and 3 miles from the blue flag beach of Coral Bay. Well known for its old stone whitewashed houses, and winding attractive street. Peyia was founded during the Byzantine era. It is famous for its spring water, and in the centre of town is the cobbled square with it's cistern fountains. There is also a lovely view down to Coral Bay from the centre of town.
There are numerous coffee shops, and plenty of local welcoming tavernas, with good food at reasonable prices. Try Peyia Taverna for your meat meze, Cousins have a wonderful fresh bream dish, The Grande is great for atmosphere, with log fires in the evening in winter. Savvas savvas give you a great meze with Greek music and dancing on a Friday night. Sofies is a themed option different nights of Chineese/Thai, Curries, Sunday roast if you are home sick. All within easy walking distance of the apartment.
The village also has a wonderful bakery, just around the corner from the apartment, with lovely fresh bread each day and many other delicacies you can't ignore. Next to the bakery is a new fruit and vegetable market with some groceries. Walking a little further up the hill is a very well stocked supermarket, supplying all your needs. Also in the village are banks, and a chemist.
At Coral Bay a lovely sandy blue flag beach where there are opportunities to swim, it is especially safe for young children. You can also enjoy many other water sports including a diving school, jet skis and parascending. There are several coffee shops and restaurants.
Agious Georgios within 15 mins drive a lovely quiet harbour area with a little cove and some fantastic rock formations to wonder at while you sit and listen to the sea against the rocks. One of my special spots in Cyprus
Close by there is quad biking, go karting, cycling, paragliding, tennis, the amazing water park, horse riding, and an animal park, and a reptile center. Not far away there are four championship golf courses. Minthis Hills (Tsada) is the nearest, and oldest course about 20mins away via a new road. Secret Valley and Aphrodite are about 30-40 minutes away. Elena is the newest course, built by Nick Faldo just outside Paphos about 20 mins away. There are some excellent reports about the course and the resturant there
For divers and would-be divers there are diving schools at Polis and Paphos.
Peyia is an excellent central point from which to investigate the island.
Peyia is not far from the harbour at Paphos and the world heritage site where there are some beautiful floor mosaics, and the Fort. There are many archaeological areas in Paphos region. The Tomb of the Kings is between Peyia and Paphos.
Shopping in the market in Paphos should not be missed, the variety of goods covers most things. morning fruit and vegetables market are next door.
Going north from Peyia you soon come into the wonderful region of the Akamas Peninsular. Here is an amazing changeable terrain from quiet coves to the Avagas gorge and more. Some of the peninsular requires a 4X4 to be fully explored, because the roads are not made up.
Peyia is about 20 miles from Polis where you can take the road west to Latchi with its little harbour and several fish resturants
Kathikas area is on the wine route map and has several wineries, and numerous good tavernas
Safari excursions can be booked, both to the akamas peninsular and the Troodos mountains..
There are many mountain villages to be visited, many of them displaying their traditional craft work.
In the mountains and the Akamas Peninsular there are numerous cycle tracks and hiking routes available
Mount Olympus in the Troodos range you can ski in the winter and enjoy the cooler air and mountain scenery in the summer. (In the spring you can ski in the morning and sunbathe on the beach in the afternoon)
