The description as "unique boat-shaped house" is right on!
Lovely neighborhood. The house and the grounds were all in great condition. Downtown Sarasota is easily walkable. Fascinating history for the house. Beautiful garden. Very comfortable bed downstairs. Excellent shower downstairs.
A little nit-picking:
The house was a tad under-equipped. There was a good collection of cooking items and all of the standard appliances such as coffee maker and toaster were there, but a couple of useful things were missing, e.g., we purchased a tea kettle and two table mats. Also, another chair or two in the downstairs livingroom/bedroom area and maybe a side table there (i.e., something that might serve as a little desk) would have been handy.
The spiral staircase is an issue for older folk like ourselves, one that we didn't appreciate fully from the website photos. We are reasonably agile septuagenarians, but we quickly decided that the spiral staircase was too much of a challenge and so we used the downstairs exclusively. The upstairs would be fine for younger folks -- kids would love it!
But those are just some minor complaints. Basically, we were delighted with the place and found it to be a comfortable and fascinating home to spend two weeks in when vacationing in Sarasota.
Thank you for the review and input. I always take recommendations seriously and will work on the items that you mentioned. There is a staircase/door dedicated to the upstairs on the exterior of the boathouse that can be used if the spiral is difficult to navigate and was added for that reason.
Also there is a desk and chair in the upstairs as well as a awesome deck with a hammock 😊
Thanks again:)
Very unique!
The boat house was a very unique experience. It is very modernized, clean and up to date. It was also very comfortable with the rooms being good sized and the bedding was comfortable as well. They had everything you would need as far as kitchen implements and even shampoo in the bathrooms. There is a bedroom downstairs and one up the spiral staircase which was a little hard for me to navigate because I had shoulder surgery prior to our stay and couldn't pull myself up the stairs. There is also another traditional outside staircase to reach the upstairs bedroom and bathroom. Also a nice patio. It is in a city neighborhood but tucked off the street, so you might not even notice it. You could walk downtown if you're in good shape. We walked around quite a bit and ate breakfast at a breakfast house around the corner, which was top notch. I would definitely recommend a stay at the boathouse for those liking a different adventure and would stay there again. If there is more than 2 people, I would not recommend for eldery to navigate the upstairs or children.
