Guestbook comments from the owner

My family and I are not long back from a lovely week staying at the Old Croft. It is a spacious yet cosy house with lovely views over looking the golf course and beautiful beach where we walked our dogs every morning.( It helped that the weather was very kind to us and the boys were able to get out on the golf course most days too). The master bedroom was bigger than expected and the kitchen had everyhing one needed, there is nothing worse than trying to cook in someone else's kitchen and not having the neccessary utensils but this was certainly not the case here! It was a lovely and well needed change from the hussle and bussle of the city and we certainly re-charged our batteries, we will definitely return next year

Week at 'The Old Croft'

Great place from which to explore the wild interior and West coast from. Pick the days to travel across the mountains via Lairg to see dear mountains and eagles. Failing that Brora beach which is a 5 minute walk across Brora Links (well worth playing!!) is a great walk, we have often seen Dolphins skimming the surf very close to the beach. It is a quicker walk, but normally some dam building with the kids half way there. Great for extended family, well equipped an homely.

Be back soon!

Brora (Scottish Gaelic: Brùra) is a village in the east of Sutherland, in the Highland area of Scotland. The village is on the A9 road and has a railway station on the Far North Line.

A small industrial village having at one time a coal pit, boat building, fishing, salt mining, fish curing, lemonade factory, Clynelish Single Malt distillery, wool mill, bricks and a stone quarry. Stone from the quarry was used in the construction of London Bridge, Liverpool Cathedral and Dunrobin Castle. The coal mine was the farthest north coal mine in the UK. A Government Radio Receiving Station was in operation between 1940 and 1986. First town in North of Scotland to have electricity thanks to its wool industry. This distinction gave rise to the local nickname of 'Electric City' at the time. Local football club Brora Rangers was founded in 1879 and moved to present stadium, Dudgeon Park, in 1922.

Home to Capaldi's Ice Cream shop, once famous throughout the Highlands for some of the finest ice cream in Scotland. It has recently been taken over by Ross-shire baker Harry Gow.

Lots of amenities including an 18 hole Links golf course designed by James Braid in 1923 for sum of £23. Bowling and Tennis, clean beaches and associated wild life.
