Our Home

Kini Kini Pua is a terrific home for your next Hawaiian get away. Situated less than a mile directly up the mountain side from Kailua Bay it is close to everything in Kona, yet an oasis in a friendly neighborhood. A brand new (2017) private heated pool is relaxation central. Enjoy swimming year-round; lounge and visit on a beautiful pool deck that features several furnished sitting and lounging areas with umbrellas. The pool's waterfalls add to the tranquility that you will enjoy while taking in Kailua's great sunsets over the Pacific Ocean. Sit back with your favorite tropical beverage, put your feet up, and relax.

Take a warm shower in our stunning private outdoor lava rock shower and feel the pleasure of the tropics from the surrounding shower garden. You don't have to share a hammock - there are two to relax in.

The home offers three bedrooms, two bedrooms with king beds and one with two extra long twin beds that can be converted by our staff to a king on request prior to arrival. The master has an on-suite bath with twin sinks, jetted tub and separate tile shower. There are separate living, family and dining areas in an open floor plan. The kitchen is equipped with all of the essentials. Kona coffee lovers will enjoy the smell of fresh ground beans and coffee from the French press. The house is decorated with island themes in mind.

A large tiled lanai, conveniently located off of the kitchen and dining area, is a great spot for outdoor meals. A gas barbecue is located on the lanai as well. Hawaii is all about living outdoors - Kini Kini Pua will make it comfortable and fun.

The property is surrounded by lava rock walls that provide privacy and extend the the outdoor living area. Native Ohia wood fencing, tropical landscaping and accents create a "real" Hawaiian feel that will stay with you long after you leave Kini Kini Pua. The garage has a wall of beach toys for you and the kids - chairs, umbrellas, coolers, boogie boards - everything you will need for a day at the beach.

The property is non-smoking and we do not allow pets. The home was constructed in 2005, the interior was updated in 2017 and the yard completely renovated in 2017 with the addition of a swimming pool, pool deck ,outdoor shower and new landscaping.

My wife and I have been enjoying the Hawaiian islands for 40 years now. It has always been a dream to have our own special place there. We have had the Pua for about 5 years now and could not be happier. Our kids and grandkids love it as well. With the addition of the pool and other upgrades to the property we are now offering our home to guests. We hope that your stay in Kailua is special to you as well.

Should you have any questions please feel free to contact me.

Great house, well-located, superb owner.

We have stayed on the Big Island many times, and especially in Kona. This is a real stand-out. What a difference when the house is managed by a caring owner! Fabulously stocked kitchen, good furniture, clear instructions, great attention to detail. The house and outdoor space is better than the photos. The pool is a complete delight. Robert was always available and went out of his way to welcome us, help us, and provide a wonderful experience. We recommend his house without reservation.

Car: necessary

Guests often eat out quite a bit because, well, you are on vacation and who wants to cook – some guests do breakfast and lunch in and dinner out. Safeway is nearby (Google for directions) and the farmers markets are good for all fruit and veggies.(Google locations) There is a large permanent farmers market that has fruit, vegetables, flowers, clothes and a ton of trinkets and other useless stuff that is very convenient right downtown next to the Catholic Church. Parking is free. Cash is usually necessary. Closed Mondays. We usually get avocados, papayas, mangoes, bananas, limes and other terrific tropical fruits – they taste so much better over here than the ones you get imported (Special Note – there’s a great blender in the cupboard so exotic smoothies and tropical drinks are there for the making!!!)

There are lots of places to eat – these are a few of my favorites -

Daylight Mind - Favorite for breakfast/brunch - great location - great views of ocean, good food, relatively small portions and above average price but you get what you pay for. You can watch the spinner dolphins while you down your Kona Coffee and eat a fresh baked scone that they make at their own bakery! Perfect. Middle of Kona on Alii Drive. Good to combine with visit to Farmer’s Market across the street – you can park there for free. Good also for WiFi.

Jackie Rays – Great bar. Great food. More local. Not on the water but chef and bartenders are first rate and been cooking there for awhile. Place to go if you want great fresh catch fish, steak, pork – yum!! Never disappointed with a meal from Jackie Rays.

Mi’s – Great location upstairs on the water above Daylight Mind. Great food. Italian. Indoor and outdoor dining. Even though they have many great dishes on the menu my wife always orders the Rigatoni with sausage – she says why bother with anything else when this is perfect!

Hugo's - love the location - good for sunset dining – Great happy hour! In fact this place has my favorite happy hour on the island. Food is great and half off on some really good items and drinks – and the view is spectacular. There is a beach bar (On the Rocks) that is next door that has food and is also pretty good but not as good as Hugo’s. The Rocks can have some good music at times – walk by and take a listen from the street – you may want to spend some time there if you like what you hear. May need reservations at Hugo’s. Great bartender at Hugo’s – super good at fine tuning the most complicated concoctions!!

Sushi – Lots of Sushi places but only one that I can say for sure is great – Seiji’s Sushi. Hole in the wall place but owner/chef is world class, worked in New York, SF and overseas. Can make anything you want. It is hard to find but keep trying if you like Sushi – 75-5669 Alii Drive #1106 – it is in the back.

Gertrude’s – Great place – really different for Kailua – it is a jazz bar Kona style. They have music every night of the week. Jazz, Salsa (with some hot dancing), some blues mixed in, and my favorite is the guest night (Wednesdays) where they have local and non local talent jam. At times it has been dynamite on guest night surpassing a usually great lineup the other nights of the week!! Gertrude’s (named after Gertrude Stein) has tapas that are always very good and some terrific signature cocktails. The place is upstairs and all open like a giant lanai and the views and breezes are easy, add a cocktail and some bacon wrapped shrimp and you are off to heaven!!

Foster’s Kitchen – Newer spot with great views, good fresh food, nice large bar, attentive wait staff. Specials are always good – never had a bad meal or poor dining experience here.

Lefty's - on Alii Drive, Mexican, sit up at the bar with a table overlooking the street. (The place is on the second floor). Great Margaritas and good food - do not over order - you might want to share nachos. Cowboy nachos are killer!! Casual vibe.

Thai Food - Great place called Thai Rin Restaurant on Alii Drive. Good food – sometimes service can vary but dishes good. It is a great view of Kailua Bay right across the street and a great spot to watch all of the people walking on Alii Drive.

Health Food Store. - Island Natural Food Store and Deli. Funky location but great store. High prices for most items but reasonable for prepared food in their deli. Great used book store located at the end of the parking area in back of the health food store - it has a massive selection and is very organized – you can also trade in your old books!! Fun.

Hulualoa Cafe and Gardens - The food here is top notch - great lunch spot outdoors - combine this with seeing this funky town of Hulualoa with lots of art galleries in Kona’s coffee country. A 15 minute drive but you will get a feel for the coffee growing area when you go to this town above Kona-Kailua. Always cooler temperatures than Kailua.
