The cottage has been built to maximise the views of the sun setting over the neighbouring vineyards. Located in a typical village of the area which is served by good restaurants and bars. Set in its own area of the garden, the cottage affords you the opportunity to totally relax after a busy day touring this stunning area of Portugal. Sip your 'sundowner' on your private verandah and watch the sun go down and if you don't feel like cooking there is a restaurant/bar as close as 5 mins walk.
The cottage offers one large double bedroom (with hairdryer) a bathroom and a fully fitted kitchen/diner, which has a comfortable sitting area as well as a dining space. There is a TV with satellite. The cottage shares a swimming pool (with the owners). Feel free to walk around the grounds and pick seasonal fruit, vegetables and herbs.
Car parking is within the grounds and next to the cottage.
We have been enjoying our peaceful haven for almost 6 years. The property and its surroundings are 'chicken soup for the soul and spirit" every day.
Owner/Manager purchased this cottage in 2009
When we first found our home it was an installation realisation that we had 'come home'. It fulfilled all our requirements but most importantly was in a typical small village and our neighbours are very welcoming. The tranquility the property provides us is something we hope to be able to share with old and new friends
We had a more than wonderful stay at the cottage in Penela. It was very well equipped and maintained. The hospitality of the hosts was extraordinary. They struck the right balance between prompt and good service to their guests and respect for their privacy. The cottage provides guests with the possibility to enjoy the calm and quiet of the surroundings or to make trips to cities like Porto, Coïmbra, Lisbon, Tomar and to explore the Serra Estrela. We recommend the place for the full 100% to all who consider staying there.
The local area is well known for it's cheese, wine and honey. The castle in Penela looks as though it is from a fairytale and the Roman Ruins at Rabacal and Conimbriga are renowned and worth a visit. Penela has good restaurants as does the main city of Coimbra. Coimbra is an old established University city (similar in age to Oxford) and boasts good shopping.
