RECEPTIVE STRUCTURE. An historic estate which years ago belonged to aristocratic Tuscan families: this is the special context in which the elegant house, La Ramugina, originally a Leopoldian farm dating back to the mid-18th century, is located, just outside Chianti. The careful restoration has rendered the rooms comfortable and functional: the bedrooms are delicate and elegant, where attention to detail has harmoniously combined fabrics and colours, which blend perfectly with the precious glimpses of the typical rural landscape that can be seen from the windows, with valleys and hills dotted with ordered expanses of vineyards and olive trees. The spacious and comfortable, rustic-flavoured rooms on the ground floor, with typical exposed-beam ceilings and with the fully equipped kitchen in front, overlook a magnificent inner garden. Less than 2 km from Mercatale, in the Arezzo section of the Valdarno, a valley bordered by the Pratomagno and by the low mountains of Chianti to the south, the location of La Ramugina is perfect for exploring the many interesting places of this rich territory: the Chianti wine route along the cobbled-stoned borghi of Gaiole, Radda, Greve up to San Gimignano and Florence, or the art cities of Siena, Arezzo, Cortona, Montepulciano and Pienza. The extensive estate produces everything that the fertile land of Tuscany has to offer, an extra virgin olive oil and an exclusive nectar with the pure aroma of the typical Chianti Colli Aretini, Merlot and Chardonnay wines which guests can taste directly in the estate cellars. Guests can also visit the tavern, inside the estate and just a few metres from the house, to sample the typical dishes of the local cuisine which, over the years, continues to speak the same language: the simple and essential language of tradition.


The villa has two floors which, in the style of this typical construction, are connected externally. The ground floor is composed of the living area: the entrance, communicating with three toilets (including one for the disabled), leads into the dining room and, from here, to the fully-equipped kitchen, living room and study. The external staircase, next to the entrance, leads up to the first floor. Here a veranda opens onto a large living room around which are six double bedrooms (four of which have divisible beds), each with ensuite bathroom (five with shower and one with tub) and two suites. The first suite consists of a double bedroom with bathroom with tub, a single bedroom with bathroom with shower and a double divan bed in the sitting area; the second suite consists of a double bedroom (with loft bed) with bathroom with tub and a double divan bed in the sitting area. A third suite is reached directly from the veranda, with sitting area, double bedroom with loft bed and a bathroom with shower.


120 hectares of land surround La Ramugina, distributed among expanses of olive groves and vineyards and composed for the most part by a thick copse, crossed by a dense network of CAI (Club Alpino Italiano) hiking and biking routes. The garden contains cypress trees lining the driveway and again olive trees, pines, holm oaks and acacias. Just outside the house a spacious paved courtyard, bordered along its perimeter by bushes of forsythia, rosemary, jasmine and oleander, contains the outdoor lounge and dining areas. On the first-floor veranda another outdoor relaxation area has been set up. A few metres from the villa, across the paved pathway leading to the pool, is the terrace, a beautiful corner looking out over the magical and unforgettable panorama of the rolling hills.

Swimming Pool

From the panoramic terrace a flight of steps leads to the pool area, situated on terracing in a private corner about 80 m from the house and surrounded on two sides by the extensive olive grove that stretches as far as the eye can see. The rectangular-shaped pool, with Roman steps and 4 whirlpool jets, measures 6 x 12 m with a constant depth of 1.40 m. The purification plant is chlorine and the pool is equipped with both internal and external lighting. The solarium area, in stone around the pool and including a large area of lawn, is provided with sunbeds, deckchairs and umbrellas. There is also a cold-water shower, a changing room and bathroom at the guests’ disposal.

The house is located in a convenient geographical position, thanks to which connections to the many places of historical, artistic and gastronomic interest are insured by an excellent road system. The motorway is a few minutes away, as is the Chianti route which passes through many picturesque villages along the way to Siena and Florence. The house is easily accessible from the airports in the region, first and foremost that of Florence, just a few kilometres away. It is also served by two railway stations that connect directly with the major cities thus avoiding the problem of parking. Leisure activities and shopping malls are close at hand in the nearby towns of Loro Ciuffenna and Montevarchi. And finally, for those who do not want to miss the exciting experience of quality shopping, the house is located within walking distance of many outlets with important labels such as The Mall, Dolce e Gabbana, Prada. Half an hour from Florence, finally, is the other major outlet of Barberino del Mugello.
