The ground floor of the holiday cottage is ideal for relaxed gatherings, with a comfy sitting room with a TV and small library to unwind with and a fully equipped modern kitchen and separate dining room.

To the front of the house is a small wooden deck with a fragrant planting, where you can sit and enjoy the sun during the day and the twinkling lights of the harbour in the evenings.

Stairs lead up from the entrance hallway to a second more formal living room ideal for entertaining. The beautiful views over Brixham Harbour from the second first floor living room provides a delightful back drop for daytime relaxing and for evening drinks, and guests can fully make themselves at home.

Next door is a quiet guest bedroom also on the first floor of the cottage and is furnished with a comfortable modern double bed. A family fitted bathroom with bath tub and overhead shower is conveniently placed by the guest bedroom.

Another set of stairs lead up to the second loft-style floor, with spacious master bedroom suite furnished with a double bed and a modern and roomy en-suite bathroom with shower.

The far reaching harbour views from the master bedroom create a restful sanctuary for guests and the nautical telescope also serves as a useful tool to enjoy observing the pretty delights of Brixham and also the vibrant activity of its working harbour.

The cottage conveniently offers use of a garage for parking in front of the cottage which can then be reached by a flight of 23 steps from the gate to the right of the garage.

**Please Note: the NEW HomeAway nightly pricing & tariff calculator displayed to the right, calculates nightly rates by taking the weekly tariff rate and dividing it by 7. This nightly rate is misrepresented, as it does not take into account Short Break Percentages explained in the Tariff Notes section below. Sadly we have no control over this new trend towards nightly 'hotel-style' pricing so please get in touch and we will be happy to help you further.**

Guests staying in this appealing, modernised holiday cottage are within enviable reach and walking distance of the harbour front and all the many local amenities on offer in Brixham.

A Royal Estate:

Berry Head was a promontory fortress and hospital constructed in the Napoleonic period, but situated on much earlier settlers remains. These earthworks were probably of from the Early Iron Age. The Berry Head earthworks, pottery, and coins suggest a late Celtic trading settlement, persisting into Roman times.

Palaeolithic man, may also have resided in Brixham, with evidence of occupation in the 'Windmill Cave'. Brixham was originally a royal estate in Saxon times, pre-conquest (1066) and stretched as far as Kingswear and Galmpton. (It is thought that the name 'Brixham' probably came from Brioc's village . Brioc was an old English personal name and ham is an ancient term for village.

Brixham Harbour a famous fishing port:

Brixham is more famous as a fishing port, still active and producing a good catches daily. Originally competing with Torquay and Paignton, it eventually dominated and remained the only active port. In the 1800's as many as 250 vessels fished out of Brixham, from large trawlers to inshore boats, employing over 1,500 people.

The fishing industry all but collapsed at the end of the second world war. The old harbour originally nestled in central lower part of the town, with natural protection, has been replaced and protected by the new harbour and eventual breakwater.

Sir Francis Drake & the Golden Hind:

Stroll in the opposite direction and you will see a replica of Drake's famous Golden Hind and farther around will be the Marina, leading onto Breakwater beach and the Breakwater itself. On a warm day, watch the seagulls glide up the breakwater on thermals enjoying themselves, or the fishermen lined up to catch a sea monster of their own.

Brixham is a true maritime town, with a rich heritage; it is surrounded by superb landscape and wooded cliffs reaching to the sea on one side and the steep cliffs of Berry Head to the other. Kingswear, Dartmouth, Churston and the South Hams are all very close and may be reached by a short drive. Alternatively the South West Coast path runs right through Brixham!

Review by Angie, Pail and Bailey from Warwickshire: "Just had an amazing week in Hillview cottage, perfect location, great views, spent most of the time in 2nd floor living room just looking out the windows. There is everything you need in the cottage and lots to do and see. It is great to see that such a nice property is pet friendly and kept spotless. Can't wait to come back."

Guestbook comments from the manager

Absolutely beautiful cottage very comfortable with stunning views. Perfect cd collection on 2nd floor to relax recline and watch the boats bobbing away on the harbour. Easy stroll down to some delicious restaurants and friendly pubs, though return journey a little more strenuous up lots of steps. Great big bath to wash away any aches or pains and an adequate kitchen with lots of little extras such as condiments and a bottle of milk on arrival which was most welcome. Perfect dog friendly base to appreciate the beauty of Brixham and explore Torbay would definitely return tomorrow.
