Quiet oceanside canal front 1/2 duplex with beautiful sunrise views. Very quiet, low traffic canal and street. No neighbors across the street or behind the property. Mutton Manor has a private tropical feel in the heart of Marathon but anything you might need is only a couple minutes away. You're within walking distance to Marathon's beautiful Sombrero Beach. Take the two kayaks oceanside for some fun looking for bonefish on the flats, snorkeling, or exploring the mangrove shoreline. Fish right in the backyard for juvenile tarpon, snook, snapper, and ladyfish or just sit in the back, sip your favorite cocktail, and enjoy the view.
Mutton Manor is the perfect spot for you to start and end each day of your adventure in the beautiful Florida Keys.
Our place is a 2 bed/ 2 bath. Sleeps 4. We like to cater to couples or couples with kids. Large roomy master. The second bedroom is small, 9'x11' and has a large bunkbed that is a queen on the bottom and a long twin on top. Sort of like a loft, the top of the room is open to the living area. Perfect for the kids or a guest.
Our house is well equipped with everything you will need. Cable TV in living room and both bedrooms. Wi-Fi. The tv in living room is a smart tv so you can surf the internet or use your Netflix account, etc.
Bringing a boat? Heads up fisherman this is a great direct ocean access location for your small boat. Just look at the map. No long idles or long shallow channels to deal with. 40' of seawall with whips, ladder and a cutting table.
The flats channel can get a a little skinny at low tide so not recommended for boats bigger than 22' . Access is limited by tide for boats much bigger. You could bring your 28cc, I do, but you will be restricted at lower tides
This is an ideal location for folks with a flats boat looking to stalk some bonefish, or run to the bridge and chase tarpon.
Nicely furnished and decorated. Everything you need is there.
Please Note: Property can only be rented through me, the owner, be aware of scammers, I will never ask you for a credit card payment or wire transfer to book or reserve dates.
Sorry no pets
So why do we call it Mutton Manor?
When we went on our first fishing trip from #7 in our boat the very first fish we caught was a mutton snapper that weighed maybe 14lbs. We released her. We had lots of bent rods with muttons on that day. I joked, in the boat, we should call our new place Mutton Manor and it has stuck ever since. It is a good thing the first fish wasn't a catfish...
Derek Ulbrich purchased this cottage in 2002
We feel our place is a nice quiet little hideaway from which to launch your daily adventures in the Keys without breaking the bank. That way you can save money for important things like bait and beer or whatever. We have been renting the place as a vacation rental for 14 years and have served 100's of happy vacationers from all over the States, Canada and Europe. We take it seriously. Should an issue arise we will not leave you hanging. We have many people who come back year after year. We want our guests to come, leave the world behind for a little while and just enjoy what the Keys have to offer. So much to do and so little time! Thanks for checking out our listing. Wherever you end up staying we hope you have a blast!
Choice small boat location! Ramp on our canal is available for use by guests with small boats.
A nice view and interior that constantly reminds you where you are.
I have to say that the pictures did not do this place justice! My husband and I had a wonderful trip, from lounging outside on the canal to visiting the many nearby islands. Access to the in-house kayaks made it fun to roam through the Mangroves in the nearby nature preserve. We rented bikes for the week cruising to the beach in one direction as well as the opposite direction for site seeing on Sombrero road. There was a nice little fruit market just up US 1 and is close in proximity to everything!
The duplex was set up efficiently and was so cozy! Well kept house with everything you could possibly need to make your own meals should you choose or dine out with causal nearby dining on up!
We highly recommend this owner. The communications were clear, concise and timely! He even gave tips for dining and site seeking.
We had a great week at this home over Spring Break. Just my husband and I, and we had plenty of room. The living room was relaxing and comfortable, the kitchen was well stocked, and the bedroom was cozy with a good bed and linens. We didn't use the 2nd bedroom but it was well furnished with a twin-over-queen sturdy wood bunk set.
The canal front patio was where we spent our time. Only 3 houses from the open ocean, it had a beautiful view and great sunrises. A resident white egret kept us company most evenings. The canal filled with seaweed for a couple days but thats certainly not the owners fault, just the tides.
We love Marathon and will re-visit this property. The owner is very easy to work with and communicates well. Overall a very good experience and a sweet little home that was perfect for us. Close to everything Marathon has to offer and in the middle of the Keys so driving anywhere is easy.
We were pleasantly surprised when we showed up at Derek's cottage in the wee hours on March 18/17. His cottage was very clean and organized with all the comforts of home. The view is beautiful and we enjoyed using the kayaks during our week of stay. We spent an afternoon at Sombrero Beach which was beautiful except the water wasn't very clear or warm due to the storm that came through the week prior. We also spent a day down at Bahia Honda State Park. The water there was also cool but very clear. Our day spent in Key West roaming the streets was a lot of fun. The bartenders/waitresses there are a blast. They had some great musicians/singers as well. We spent another day out fishing and caught a pile of grunts which are great eating! This was my first trip to Florida and I couldn't believe the colour & clarity of the water while out on the Charter , definitely wasn't expecting that! We also were lucky enough to see a pod of dolphins while out fishing, so exciting!
Thanks again Derek for allowing us to rent your cottage and hope to be able to spend another week or two next year!

My family has vacationed here at mutton manor for the past 2 years. The home is very well cared for and is equipped with everything necessary to enjoy your stay. Marie is extremely helpful. Quick ocean access. Would recommend this home to anyone. Thank you Marie and Family for opening your home to others. My family has wondeful memories.
This is truly paradise. You have the beach at one end of the road and the grocery store at the other. We barely left the cottage, except for a day trip to nearby Key West. Enough fish caught off the seawall for dinner most days. Spectacular views. All this and our dog was welcome, too. Marie is great to work with, and her kitchen is a renters dream. Endless pots, pans, bakeware, and dishes, which is certainly not the norm at the other places we have rented over the years. The fenced in patio was great for the dog. He could be outside all day just like at home. Plenty of non-busy dog walking places as well. I would recommend Mutton Manor highly! It is everything the description says and more.
My husband and I stayed here the week of our wedding in Key West, though it was a further drive than we anticipated, it was well worth it and we could not ask for a better home! The house is clean and cozy, decorated so well inside and out, a true Florida Keys paradise! We had great fishing in the canal and even had a manatee swim up and play in the water between us and the neighbors on the other side of the duplex, they taught us that the manatee loves to play in the water coming out of the hose! Marie was great to work with during the entire reservation process and following up with us to make sure everything went well afterward. We will definitely be coming back to this home, unfortunately not soon enough! This home will be a part of our memories forever and we are so glad we picked this one among so many in the area, it is close enough to everything you need, yet far enough off the main road to feel like you are in a world of your own. I just can't say enough about our entire experience! Thank you Marie, and I hope all your future tenants treat your home better than their own so it always remains pet friendly and available for us to share many more weeks in the years ahead!!!
