About the property

Crossways Holiday Cottages

Can be booked on our own Website a lot cheaper. Just Enter our name and North Devon and you will find us!

Free SUPERFAST WiFi - Car Park and Guest's garden with picnic benches, barbecues, utensils and ball games. Adjoining small paddock which is ideal for ball games for guests or their dogs! Stunning views of rolling Devon hillsides all the way across to Exmoor! Quiet rural location within easy reach of many North Devon attractions.

Beautifully furnished cottages that have been carefully and lovingly decorated with colour co-ordinated soft furnishings in each room. Fully fitted kitchens with many extra's included.

We welcome one well-behaved dog per cottage. It may be possible to accept two dogs but please contact us first so that we can co-ordinate the doggy population here with the other holiday cottage! We do ask that dogs do not go upstairs or on any of the furniture. We provide a stairgate to help with this and can supply a throw. We do also request that pets are not left alone in the holiday cottages as they can sometimes become distressed and could cause damage or disturb guests in the neighbouring cottage.

There is a special bin in the garden for doggy bags and a small paddock where they can run around. Both the garden and the paddock are securely fenced with wooden post and rail fencing with wire stock fencing along the bottom rail. We can recommend an excellent kennels nearby that runs a day creche for dogs if you are really stuck. We have used them ourselves and so are happy to recommend them.

About Sally and Michael South

Hi We are Sally and Michael South. After having spent 30 years in Kent, raising our two children and seeing them off to their Universities we were fortunate enough to be in a position to begin a new lifestyle in a beautiful part of the country. Michael, having spend all of his career in uniform, first with the British Army and then with the Fire Service and myself in various jobs, Banking, Retail and Cattery Management, we decided that our future was to be a life in the country running our own holiday let business.

Sally and Michael South purchased this cottage in 2011

Why Sally and Michael South chose Umberleigh

We looked all over the West Country for the perfect property, saw several, but Crossways in Atherington was by far the best. We have always loved Devon and have found North Devon to be unspoilt with such friendly people and the most beautiful rolling countryside. Every journey is a pleasure and I don't think we will ever grow complacent of the stunning scenery.

What makes this cottage unique

We found Crossways and fell in love with it straight away. The views were absolutely amazing and we couldn't wait to share it with our guests, family and friends. We set about putting our own finishing touches to a business that was already up and running, but we wanted to put our own stamp on it by adding more quality furniture of a single style, using locally sourced artwork to decorate the walls and the promoting of local businesses. Our next steps will be to introduce a new range of 'country themed' soft furnishings, install a well placed hot tub that will make the most of the stunning views that we are blessed with, and log burners in each cottage with double glazing throughout to make the cottages even more snug and welcoming especially during the winter months.

Guestbook comments from the owner

A beautiful cottage which fitted in with the beautiful surroundings. Great hosts met all of our needs and then some. Highly recommend the Golden Lion pub - the food is out of this world, so fresh and scrummy! Thank you so much Lory and Colin for a relaxing and very enjoyable holiday with many new memories we will take away with us.

Feel the freedom

This is a beautiful home to explore the Exmoor region. The house is very complete. You have a privat parking place and an own spot in the garden to have good summer BBQ's. We loved Lynton, Lynmouth, the Valley of Rocks!. North Devon is the place to be if you need to get new energy.

Ideally situated in between Exmoor and Dartmoor National Parks, with free-roaming ponies and other wildlife. Breathtaking views of the rolling North Devon landscape from the guest's garden. We are quietly situated in a rural setting but without any of the typical narrow Devon lanes. A 10 minute drive to Dartington Crystal and RHS gardens Rosemoor in Great Torrington. A 20 minute drive to Barnstaple and many fantastic sandy beaches so popular with surfers and swimmers. Local tourist attractions include The Milky Way, The Big Sheep, Exmoor Zoo and many, many more!
