Yellowbird is a beautiful mix of old and new. A listed, historic main house dating from the 1800s with a fully remodeled kitchen and amenities, and a more recently built two-story guest cottage with a refreshing plunge pool tucked between the houses. With beautiful indoor and outdoor living spaces, there are lots of cozy places to enjoy a cocktail, or read a book and relax. We enjoy sitting on the front porch swing to spy the local charm of the island.

Yellowbird is totally enclosed for privacy and security. The main house has two bedrooms - one with a queen bed, the other with two twin beds - and two bathrooms. Both bedrooms are tucked up under the eaves and have direct access to the rear verandah. The cottage includes three separate bedrooms each with queen beds and en-suite bathrooms. The two lower bedrooms in the guest cottage adjoin making a family friendly suite. The upper bedroom has a harbour view. The set up is ideal for two families travelling together.

Indoor and outdoor dining and living areas are available depending on your mood. Cool off at the pool after a day at the beach, while relaxing in lounge chairs by the pool or in the outdoor sofas in the Gazebo.

The property is conveniently located in town which affords you the opportunity to feel a part of this special island. You are in the heart of the village within minutes walking distance to restaurants, bakeries, coffee shops, delis, grocery stores, marinas and the main dock. The world famous pink sand beach is an 8 minute walk or one minute golf cart ride.

Yellowbird recently changed owners and has been updated with new furniture, painting and linens. Tastefully decorated in beachy-chic style, Yellowbird is the perfect vacation home for a family looking for an authentic Briland experience. The home is locally managed, includes daily housekeeping and has air conditioning, wireless internet, cable, a local Bahamian phone and a Vonage phone for free online calls. The house also has its own generator, so you won't be troubled if the power goes out.

About Tom Evans

Our family has owned property on Harbour Island since the 1950s. We're proud to be fourth generation Brilanders. It's our happy place! We're a family that enjoys entertaining our friends and family and being part of the island life both socially and by supporting the community. We and our kids, enjoy the freedom of exploring Harbour Island (critter hunting for the salt water aquarium, spotting baby chicks, boogie boarding in the crystal waters).

We fell in love with Harbour Island - its friendly people, natural beauty and relaxed way of life. There is no other island in the Bahamas like Harbour Island. And it has one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. One of the things that makes Harbour Island so special is the historic architecture of Dunmore Town. It is a quaint and charming village. When Yellowbird came up for sale, we knew we had to buy it. It is one of the most iconic houses in the village with a listed historic status (dates from 1800s). We want to maintain this wonderful house for the community and for visitors to enjoy for generations. Over the years, several improvements have been made to the property while maintaining its historic charm - building a quest cottage, adding a pool & gazebo, remodeling the kitchen, installing a generator and most recently in August 2017 adding new furniture, linens and decor.

Just loved this wonderful island cottage!

We loved our ten day stay at Yellow Bird Cottage. Three couples shared the house and we all had our private areas and then enjoyed gathering out around the pool or in kitchen! Two nights we cooked at home in the evening and sat out late talking around the table in the garden. House has an excellent barbecue. The in-town Location was perfect. We loved Patrice, our housekeeper, who came daily and cooked Bahamian food for us one night! Just the best! The restaurants on the island are also fantastic. Rented golf carts and daily went up to the Public Beach between the Pink Sands & Coral Sands Hotels where w rented lounge chairs and umbrellas from TJ - she also had a little bar and served hot dogs for lunch - was perfect. We hope to return next year! I highly recommend this house for a family - there were two bedrooms we did not even use! The cottage was exceptionally clean, updated and a great rental for a sunny winter vacation away from the snow in Maine!. And the islanders are so friendly, happy and helpful! We have been to many islands in BVIS but now Harbor Island is our favorite due to the accommodations, restaurants and locals.

Peaceful Oasis in the Heart of Dunmore Town!

We were so pleased with our week stay at Yellowbird! It has the charm of an old house but has been nicely updated. The kitchen is well stocked and we cooked a couple of nights. Lobster on the grill was great!

We were two families of 4 each so having the two houses worked out really well. The pool area in-between was a wonderful place to come back to after the beach. You are in the heart of Dunmore village but would never know it because the house is on a quiet side street and it feels very private. It was great being able to walk to shops, restaurants and the grocery store.

I definitely recommend getting a golf cart so you can explore the island and get to the beach easily. Marcella, the house manager, helped to arrange this. She was great and answered any questions we had.

I haven't visited Harbour Island in 20 years and it really hasn't changed. We were there over Christmas, but it was not overcrowded, we could always get a table at restaurants etc.

Can't say enough good things, we will definitely be back!!

Relaxing vacation in a peaceful and authentic place

We rent the Yellowbird house for 4 nights and it was a pefect accomodation for us being 2 families. We enjoyed the house and the pool, and its location that is pefectly close to the main places. We discovered this island of Bahamas that remains a preserved place of cool atmosphere (but note we stayed in August so not in the peak season). Everyone in the village days hello and this si just so different from other places ! Marcella is very helpful for arranging all things, it has been perfect holiday for us 7 !

Updated true Briland house!

Nicely updated, centrally located house with original charm. Great for our family of three married children and us because it provided us with the community around the pool and in the main house (kitchen, dining and living rooms) while maintaining privacy with the five bedrooms each with their own baths. Plenty of space to accommodate the other 8 members of the family for meals and games whether in the living area or at the pool. Perfect for those who want the true Briland experience!

Yellowbird is conveniently located in the heart of the village minutes from all of the amenities. For coffee/breakfast check out Bahamas Coffee Roasters (coffee roasted locally on neighboring Eleuthera), Arthur's Bakery, Cocoa (great avocado toast!) or the Landing. Lunch in town at the Deli, Queen Conch (for spectacular conch salad), or Valentine's Marina. Lunch by the beach at Sip Sip (no visit to Harbour island is complete without trying their lobster quesadilla), The Dunmore, Coral Sands and Pink Sands. Dinner at Da Vine (excellent sushi), The Landing, Rock House, Valentine's, The Dunmore, Ocean View, Pink Sands & Aquapazza. Be sure to check out local band the Brilanders who play on Sunday's at Romora - watch the sunset, have some conch fritters, cocktails and dance. For the night owls looking for drinks or dancing, check out Beside the Reef, Gusty's, Daddy-D's and The Vic Hum in that order as the night progresses. Shop till you drop at The Blue Rooster, Sugar Mill, Dilly-Dally and others. Most importantly, get out on the water! Go scuba diving at Valentine's. Go deep sea fishing for Tuna, Dolphin, Wahoo and Spanish mackerel. Get a guide and experience some of the best bonefishing in the world. Get a boat for half a day for snorkeling (best spots are Cistern, and the south end of Man Island), reef fishing, turtle spotting in Bottom Harbour, or take a picnic lunch to neighboring Man Island.

Additional pricing information

Rentals are typically Saturday to Saturday or Sunday to Sunday depending on existing rental listings. Check in is at 4pm and check out is at 10am to give the housekeeper time to clean. Later check outs can be arranged with the house manager if another family isn't arriving on the same day.

Half the rental fee plus the $500 deposit is required at booking. The deposit will be returned after the property is inspected without incident within 7 days of departure.

There is an additional $300 fee to use the pool heater. This can be refunded if you choose not to use it.

VRBO adds an additional service fee of approximately 6% to book the property.

Gratuity for the housekeeper of $30 per person per week is customary. Please pay the housekeeper in cash upon your departure.

Owner's Cancellation Policy

  • 50% refund for cancellations more than 30 days before check-in date.
  • 100% refund for cancellations more than 60 days before check-in date.
  • Service Fee fully refunded on cancellations that qualify for 100% refund.
