A 3 bedroom villa which looks across the Atlantic Ocean

This three-bedroom villa nestles among an array of colourful shrubs in rural Spring Bay, a private estate on the eastern side of Bequia, the largest of the St. Vincent Grenadines. Through swaying coconut trees which adorn the bay, it overlooks the calm waters of the Atlantic and lush green surrounding hills. In the distance is the uninhabited but historic island of Baliceaux, once the home of Garifuna people (early inhabitants of St. Vincent) who were exiled there in 1797. The villa's position makes ideal for observing both the brilliance of sun rise and full moon; and being within easy reach of probably two of the most exclusive restaurant on the island, the venue for an evening of fine dining is practically around the corner. Port Elizabeth, the capital and main hub where there are banking, medical and shopping facilities, and eating outlets serving both local and international cuisines, is about ten minutes drive away.

The villa which is about a 5-minute walk from Spring beach, sits on two levels. On the top level is a large tastefully decorated sitting room which, with modern rattan furniture opens onto a wide and expanded veranda overlooking the sea. There is a 42" flat screen television, a sound system (radio and CD player) and a well stacked book shelf. On this level too are the three bedrooms, each of which is air-conditioned, has an en-suite and mosquito nets.

The lower level occupies a very spacious kitchen-diner and a flight of stairs which leads to the top level. The kitchen is well equipped. In addition to the usual kitchen amenities, there is a fridge-freezer with an ice and water dispenser and a dishwasher. The dining table seats six and that too overlooks the lush green hills.

At the end of a long terrace is a 12" X 20" swimming pool with an attached barbecue grill. This forms the centre piece of a rather substantial, manicured and tiered garden with a rich assortment of the local floras. It attracts many of the native birds such as the ground dove, the mountain dove and cocorico, to name but a few. Set among the floras is a small lawn on which sits a picnic bench, another area set aside for that cool refreshing evening drink.

The house and its surrounding areas are maintained at the highest standard throughout by a dedicated weekly maid service, a pool attendant who attends twice per week and a gardener.

In brief, Villa Santa Maria offers a very peaceful and relaxing holiday, enhanced by its surrounds, the facilities for al-fresco dining, if that's the wish, and some magnificent views. Being so close to the main town also ensures easy access to many services and social activities.

We regularly holidayed in Bequia, staying with relatives. After some time we decided to have our own place. After visiting many areas, we settled on Spring Bay because of its tranquility and stunning views. We bought the land and we had the house built from scratch.

The house was built as our second home. It therefore allows us to holiday in our favourite destination and to relax away from the hustle and bustle of the UK, especially in the winter months.
