About Amaris O'Dell

Having spent our entire lives in what we consider to be the most beautiful place on earth, we were determined to create a new way to enjoy it. My father owned many houseboats through the years. Although they were useful they were somewhat inconvenient. The generator always had to be maintained and constantly refueled (and was noisy). Getting around in them were a huge hassle too. This is why we're SO excited to introduce The Swamp Tuna. Convenience and comfort are now both on the move! Our solar powered houseboats (with a "water fixer" on board) are the new way to enjoy the best nature has to offer. No more noisy generator, no more living from an ice chest, no more cold baths. Many of the comforts of home... on the move! Super easy to pilot and can be rented for a family day on the lake or extended stay. We also custom build to order for sale.

Incredible!

  • 5 of 5

Wow! What an awesome experience! This house boat is very nice, well equipped and stocked to the "T". They have thought of everything on this boat. Amaris and her father Clark are two of the most accommodating and nice people we have ever met. They really know what customer service is all about. The good morning texts and just checking to make sure every thing is alright adds a nice touch. The scenery is incredible as well. Plenty of wildlife to be seen and the fishing is pretty good too! We will definitely be back! Thanks for allowing us to make memories on your boat in such an incredible place!

Laissez le bon temps rouler!

  • 5 of 5

We took our 6 yr old grandson on the Swamp Tuna for a magical 3 day trip through the bayous and waterways of Lake Verret LA. Amaris and her father Clark were incredible hosts and trained us on operating the houseboat in about 20 minutes. The Tuna is a well designed sturdy boat/barge/tank of a water craft that is as much fun to drive around as to live on. With a front and rear porch the view and breeze are always present no matter where you drop anchor or tie off. Amaris and Clark were just a text away for help, guidance or even groceries delivered by boat! Meals were fun to prepare. We fried fresh catfish and bass fillets the first night, grilled steaks the second and made jambalaya the third. The Tuna has a well equiped kitchen or you can cook outside on the fillet station complete with sink and gas burner. Nights on the lake were cool enough to sleep with only fans and open screened windows in July. The Tuna is solar powered electrically and even has AC if needed. We swam in mid lake in the heat of the day and anchored in the shade of cypress trees for afternoon fishing. The Tuna comes equipped with 2 kayaks for further adventurs among the cypress knees and duck weed. This is the ultimate glamping adventure in the water ways of the famous Atchafalaya basin where we saw gators, gars, reptiles and birds of all sorts including Eagles. Amaris and Clark have created a complete experience with great attention to all the little things one always seems to need but forgets to pack. Whether you are a sportsman, naturalist or just want to relax in a quiet off the grid place, this is an opportunity to play Huck Finn and see one of Americas truely amazing wild places. All you have to do is show up and Amaris and Clark will make sure a good time is had by all!

  • 5 of 5

The pictures don't do this beautiful houseboat justice !! It is just lovely and fully stocked with everything you need. Clark, Mona and Amaris were a pleasure to work with :) They are so accommodating and some of the nicest people you will ever meet. Highly recommend this rental. We will definitely return but will book our next getaway in the cooler months.

Peace in the Bayou!

  • 5 of 5

This houseboat is a gem of a rental. It is beautifully stocked with many amenities and the pictures do not do it justice. Amaris was the perfect host as she gave me her phone number, text me with every imaginable details and patiently answered all my questions. This vacation experience was true southern hospitality on the scale of a Bed and Breakfast. Whatever you need they are not far away, from bringing extra towels or sending a simple "Good Morning" text to see if we needed anything. We truly felt at home on their boat as we explored the bayous and lake, cooked our meals on the front deck and enjoyed nature at its finest. Thanks for the memories and we will be back soon!

Words Can’t Describe

  • 5 of 5

A few months ago a VRBO ad popped up of a houseboat on a bayou in south La. I couldn’t get that image out of my mind. Last week my son came home from college and I told him we were headed for the swamps of Louisiana. We were both a little apprehensive but once we met Amaris and her dad Clark on the boat I knew it was going to be an experience of a lifetime and it was. From the fishing, exploring, drinking the dripped community coffee like my grandfather made me as a boy, it was a wonderful experience that words can’t describe. Just a side note. We were just staying a couple of nights and didn’t want to leave but were out of fishing bait. Amaris sent her brother in his boat to bring us worms and Gatorade. I couldn’t believe it. Also if you have time to talk with Clark you’ll get a great history lesson of the area. I will be back. Maybe permanently on day.

Perfect Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

My husband, myself, my sister and her husband thoroughly enjoyed our four nights on the Swamp Tuna. It was a perfect balance of rest and recuperation while not ever getting bored. We enjoyed coffee on the porch in our rockers listening to the birds serenading us. The boys took the kayaks out to go fishing, sometimes until midnight. We cooked the fish fresh right on the boat. We also took an evening drive to the lake to watch the sunset. It was absolutely gorgeous! A must-do! We thought we liked riding on a party barge but this takes the cake. So much beauty taking a ride through the bayous of Louisiana!
