Romantically “tucked away”, Villa Etna sits on a fabulous hill top overlooking the Alcantara valley. It lies in the outer countryside of Taormina (a 30min drive from the city). This location boasts breathtaking and unrivaled views. Stretching across from Mount Etna, to the surrounding valley and Castiglione di Sicilia a medieval town nestled atop a hillside. Set admits its own vineyard and olive orchard, it features a lovely walled-in courtyard ensuring relaxing isolation.
The house is a cozy traditionally built lava-stone detached farmhouse with its own private garden. Completely independent, the villa assures you total privacy. A large panoramic terrace with ancient well, a BBQ and a separate balcony offer ample ‘Al fresco' dining space from which, at near 650 meters altitude, you will truly feel on top of the world. Inside the villa is furnished and equipped to a simple but tasteful and cozy standard, the villa can accommodate up to 6 people.
It has 3 bedrooms and 1 bathroom with shower. 2 bedrooms are downstairs at the entrance level. The 3rd bedroom is on the 2nd level and living-dining area and kitchen are on top of 3rd level. From the dining room you can step onto the balcony overlooking Mount Etna. From the living room you have direct access to the panoramic terrace and courtyard by means of an outside staircase.
There is a large pool available to you which is shared with guests of Agrihotel Antica Cavalleria, only a 3 minute easy stroll downhill.
The charm and attraction of the villa do not end there. From having the space and privacy to do as much or as little as you please, to visiting the areas of Taormina, Castelmola or Giardini-naxos. For exploring Mount Etna, the Alcantara gorge and the aeolian islands (including Stromboli), the house provides an excellent and comfortable base in a rural and quiet location. Due to its rural setting a car is highly recommended. Whatever it is you are looking for, be it a relaxing getaway, or a trip back in time, Villa Etna offers everything you could be looking for in a Sicilian vacation.
We are parents of 2 lovely girls, leading a rather hectic life in the international business environment.
Grit & Uwe Degel purchased this villa in 2013
We were looking for a quiet retreat to get 'away-from-it-all' on our few weeks off.
Yet we wanted to be in the vicinity of nice attractions on the island of Sicily. Having visited the beautiful town of Taormina on several occasions we wanted to spend time in the area. When we retire this will be our 'place in the sun'.
Having panoramic views from every window and doorway of Villa Etna combined with the unrivaled privacy due to its walled-in romantic garden made us fall in love immediately. The surrounding vineyard and olive orchard was our dream come true!
We stayed here for a week in August. There were only two of us so we had plenty of space. Six might struggle a bit as there is only one bathroom. The house is situated in its own vineyard just off a main road. It is on two floors with two bedrooms on the ground floor, a bathroom halfway up the stairs and a living area and kitchen upstairs. There are several outdoor sitting areas at different levels so plenty of choice. There are a lot of steps so you do need to be mobile. The house is generally very well equipped but we would have liked some sort of oven (either a small electric or gas one or a microwave).
A short distance away is the Antica Cavalleria agriturismo where you can use all the facilities free of charge. We ate there three evenings. The food is simple but good, all prepared by the delightful Maria. We arrived on a Sunday and asked if we could eat. They served us a full meal and only later did we realise they do not normally cook on Sunday evenings! We attended a limoncello workshop and a Sicilian buffet meal - both very enjoyable.
The house is looked after by Cristian who is very helpful and whose girlfriend makes limoncello which you can buy in the house.
The position of the house is great for exploring the northern slopes of Etna. Castiglione and Randazzo are nice but we would give Bronte a miss. One of the highlights of our visit was a short trip on the Circumetnea railway down to Riposto and back. We might try the full round trip in the future but it takes over 5 hours. One of the most highly recommended restaurants, Terra Mia, is just up the road but we would not recommend walking it at night. The food was excellent.
There were hardly any negative points. Occasionally one of the nearby agriturismi had a karaoke session but it did not last long. Someone had found the directions difficult to follow. We thought they were excellent with one minor correction - the "crossroads" near the property is actually a T junction.
In short, we had a great time and would certainly consider staying there again.
We arrived from the UK on a hot day in Sicily and found it initially very difficult to find this property which is tucked away in a rural location. We had directions from the owner and also a sat nav but still got lost.We wonder if the co-ordinates are right because once we found it, the journey back to the airport was actually very straightforward. Anyway, the house manager was very helpful and showed us the way from the local town. This property has everything you could possibly want apart from air conditioning. If it had AC or even ceiling fans then I would give it 5 stars. The photos do not do it justice - the place is so beautiful. The local pool is shared with a few other properties and just a short walk down the hill. It is probably the nicest private pool we have ever used. There are around 30 steps up to the property so not for those with mobility issues or small children in pushchairs. The property is well equipped but no oven in the kitchen, just a hob. All in all, we loved it and it was the perfect break for our extended family. Thank you.
Set among the lush vineyards and orchards at the base of Etna's volcanic foothills and with a view over the famous volcano Villa Etna offers peace and tranquillity in delightful surroundings. The beautifully restored property set in its own small vineyard is comfortable and welcoming. It is furnished and equipped in a manner that is sympathetic and appropriate to its age and location yet with sufficient modern conveniences to make your stay comfortable. Outside there are various shady spots and sunny terraces to enjoy open air living to the full. And if you fancy a swim the local Agriturismo property has a beautiful pool that guests may use free of charge.
As you would expect in a rural location a car is essential but despite its secluded setting it is very well located to reach all the important tourist destinations. A wonderful spot to unwind and enjoy Sicily to the full.
We loved our time spent here and would certainly go back.
For our stay in Sicilia the beautiful house was a perfect place.
The villa is awesome. The view is spectacular, you see the Castiglione di Sicilia village, the Mount Etna, the little vineyard, you really can’t ask for more.
The villa is clean and well situated. You are 30 minutes away from Taormina and Mount Etna. If you want to experiment Sicilia, this is the spot. It has a nice balcony and an outdoor space where you can relax en enjoy the quietness of the region.
We were there with our extended family (5, 7, 36, 36, 60 and 80 years old) and it was great. We went to the lovely pool several times and we had dinner 4 times at the restaurant near the pool where the Sicilian food is exceptional. The service from the house manager was great and he speaks several languages.
I can’t say enough good words about the villa and the region. Enjoy your stay.
