Classic Adirondack log cabin located on 6+ acres of private land, with magnificent mountain views and 400 feet of lakefront . There is a large stone fireplace in the living room, a screened porch, 3 outside fireplaces, a waterfront deck with tete-a-tete, canoes and a rowboat to launch from your own dock. Have breakfast in the fully functional kitchen; refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, blender, pots, pans, dishes -- all the necessities. The new gas grill is ideal for a cookout. The master bedroom offers an Adirondack log bed and bathroom, while there is a loft area that sleeps four and a hide-a-bed sofa in front of the fireplace. Watch Satellite TV, DVD movies or just sit outside on your Adirondack chairs, by the campfire, and appreciate the star filled sky.
Surrounded by the sounds of nature you will be reminded that you do have neighbors - loons, ducks, Blue Heron, etc.., Completely private on 6+ acres with 400 feet of waterfront. In the summer pick blueberries down by the dock or across the road. Plenty of dirt roads leading right from the cabin are well suited for hiking, nature walking or biking to discover the beauty and wilderness of Adirondack Park.
The Lakes: Mountain view lake is a small private quiet mountain lake home to beavers, ducks and loons. Canoe via a channel and discover Indian Lake. Indian Lake is bigger and better suited for swimming, and tubing. Both lakes offer lots of fishing opportunities; perch, pike and small-mouth bass. Small kids will enjoy the sandy beach area with a wade in point on Indian Lake while older kids (including our labs) have been known to jump right from the cabin's private dock. Both lakes are about 3 miles long -Mt. View is narrow and Indian Lake is wide. The lakes are connected and offer fishing opportunities with small motors, kayaks, canoe, or rowboats.
There are lots of bigger lakes nearby: Meacham Lake, Saranac Lake, Lake Plaid, Mirror Lake, etc.., Fly fishing is renowed at Salmon River. Deer River flow only 20 minutes away offers abundant wildlife, large pike, easy canoe launch and even some trout! Enjoy the St. Regis canoe area and make sure to bring the camera.
The Mountains: Hiking, walking, biking, jogging, running. Whatever you can do with a mountain the Adirondacks is the place to do it. Hike Debar Mountain at Meacham Lake Campground or hike to the top of Azure Mt. with the working firetower but make sure you 'take a rock to the top' to prevent wind erosion. Look for soaring hawks and spectacular views of the St. Regis Canoe area. Dauphin Nature park is only .25 miles from the cabin's front door and offers lots of hiking opportunities without the drive. Paul Smith's Visitor Center offers hiking and walking opportunities for all levels from a climb up Jenkins Mountains to wide dirt paths for toddlers.
The fall is a spectacular time of the year. The Adirondack mountains are encased in autumn splendor and nature is a master artist with a variety of colors; gold, red, orange, etc.... Visit the High Peaks in Keene Valley and be prepared to fall in love!
The cabin: Where do you go to relax? No work, no traffic, no cell phones and no stress. The only thing you have to do is what you want. Build a fire, grab a blanket and listen to the distinct sound of each raindrop while you relax, read or take a nap. Get dressed and get that heart pumping with a challenging hike. Look for wildlife while you hop on the bike or grab the fishing rod and reel in some fun. Rediscover your own voice in nature's golden silence.
Build an outside fire and toast the smores! Throw a log on the indoor fireplace, play cards, watch a movie or look for stars in the nighttime sky. Stay up late and let your body's alarm clock wake you. Snuggle up next to the fire, partner or family pet. Canoe, kayak or take a dip from the dock. You decide! The most important thing to spend is your time. You won't remember the minutes just the moments. Enjoy each moment with yourself or with your family at the cabin on the lake in the mountains.
My wife and I are retired public school teachers, who have spent our summers in the Adirondack Mountains for all of our married life. We find the mountains offer us a welcome refuge from the busy work world and a playground that allows us to pursue a variety of interesting and enjoyable activities with our family.
Doug Johnson purchased this cabin in 2012
Our lakeside log cabin is located on 6+ acres of Adirondack forest land, with no visible neighbors (except for camps on the other side of the lake). This very private type of setting is hard to find on most Adirondack Lakes and was this location, coupled with the attractive, rustic log cabin that resulted in our purchase of Camp Critters 3 years ago.
Past guests have found their time at the cabin to offer a most peaceful, relaxing vacation. There are walking and hiking trails just beyond the cabin's entrance road; the lake offers enjoyable canoeing, kayaking and boating opportunities; and fishing at the lake and on its feeder streams is excellent.
We encourage our guests to provide comments on this online guestbook. We have a guestbook at the cabin as well and we read every comment. We found many useful suggestions including favorite local hikes, swimming holes and critter sightings. We really do learn alot and appreciate the feedback. We want our guests to enjoy being at an authentic ADK log cabin with their family including those with 4 legs (we have two labs!). There is lots of privacy, peace and natural beauty all around. We supply the cabin, lake, dock, firewood and some outside chairs and you make the memories!!
Beautiful log cabin on a big, secluded piece of property with lake front dock and decks and canoes and a rowboat to use. Well appointed kitchen for cooking, a beautiful fireplace (and a gas fire if you don't want to bother.)
Lots of outdoor seating on a screened in porch and an open deck and down by the lake another deck. A great place and heaven for the dog.
My husband, daughter and I wanted a relaxing place to visit in the Adirondacks. And we wanted a place where we could bring our little dog. This place was exactly as described! It was quiet, beautiful and extremely comfortable and catered to our little "critter." There was a dog bowl we could use, a few dog toys and extra leashes, if needed. I wish we could have stayed for a month! The owner was so nice and helpful and easily answered all of our questions, prior to our arrival and then after we arrived. The cabin was clean and very well maintained. We enjoyed ourselves very much and hiked, canoed and fished. I would definitely stay here again!
My wife and I celebrated our five year anniversary at the camp. It was cold outside but we stayed warm by the beautiful stone fireplace. Everything you need is right here. We actually never left camp and did not see a single person for our entire visit. No cell phones or Internet here, a real getaway.
My family and I just stayed here for Columbus Day Weekend, and we all agreed our stay was too short. This is a terrific place to get away from it all. The cabin is well furnished and appointed, with everything in the kitchen needed to prepare anything you may want to prepare during your stay. My family and I want to make a stay here an annual or semi-annual occurrence.
My husband and I stayed here last year and we can't wait to go back. It was so nice to have a place exceed your expectations. The cabin was clean and cozy. The area is very quiet and secluded and perfect for relaxing. Our favorite memories are hiking Owl's Head Mountain (so cool to explore the cave we came across) and really enjoyed canoeing & fishing from the private dock. Fishing resulted in one nice size Pike and lots of small perch. We would walk our dog on the many dirt roads leading right from the cabin door and never came across another person. Another favorite memory is canoeing over to Belly's restaurant and coming back in the moonlight. It really felt like an escape. Lots of good memories & relaxing by the fire. Much thanks to the owners for sharing this Adirondack treasure.
We couldn't have dreamed of a better time!!!! We loved your cabin, the grounds, all your special touches (well appointed kitchen, great movies and games to name a few!), your beautiful canoe, the shooting stars, the crazy loons, the beaver we saw canoeing back from Belly's one night for dinner, the fishing, and the peacefulness.
What a treasure you have.
I really miss being at the cabin. It's funny how some places are such a perfect fit and feel like home, or at least ,very familiar. How did you ever find the cabin? The whole area was fantastic! Loved the beach at Indian Lake, too! Please keep us in mind if you do have to sell at any point. At the very least, we would loooove to come back again!
Thanks you for entrusting us to your little piece of heaven!

The village of Malone offers restaurants, shopping, a library, hospital, etc., and it is only 20 minutes away. Meacham Lake State Park is also 20 minutes away and offers hiking, boating, fishing, and biking. The park includes DeBar Mountain, a great day hike with, outstanding views.
A nice day trip is taking the ferry across Lake Champlain (approx. 3 hrs round trip) and visiting Burlington, VT., with its unique downtown pedestrian shopping area. Montreal, Que. is 80 miles away and Ottawa, Ont. is a 2 hour drive (you'll need your passport). Santa's North Pole theme park is an hour from the cabin and the new " Nature Wild Center" is a 45 minute drive away.
