Lovely, well equipped and clean cottage.

I have stayed in numerous gîtes in France and this is probably the nicest of all. It's very well equipped with high quality fixtures and fittings, and immaculately presented. Owners Lisa and Andy are nearby if you need anything but otherwise you have complete privacy.

It's a great area for walking and cycling/mountain biking and the private lake is great for a relaxing few hours fishing - I caught many perch during my stay and one close to 3lbs.

Highly recommended!

Nothing’s changed since our last visit (nor should it).

Everything still very clean, very comfortable and very peaceful.

The weather was a bit against us (it was Autumn/early Winter !!!!), but despite this we still managed to explore and experience new and different areas.

People everywhere very friendly, and roads very “early Sunday morning ish” !!

Still plenty of good restaurants within easy driving distance.

Must try and visit in the spring/early summer next time.

Thanks again Andy & Lisa

Lovely place, lovely people

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at La Petite Maison whilst looking for properties in Limousin. Lisa and Andy were wonderfully welcoming and informative but were very respectful of our privacy. The cottage was immaculately clean and well appointed and the grounds and lake were stunning. We would definitely return to this property.

Perfect Cottage and Location

  • 5 of 5

We spent a wonderful 10 days at La Petite Maison in early September. We took our bikes and the area was perfect for relatively easy cycling with hardly any heart stopping ascents! We cycled along peaceful roads, lined with chestnut trees and discovered picturesque small chateaux hidden away in quiet villages. The cottage was perfectly equipped and extremely comfortable both indoors and outdoors (with even a purpose built bike shed!) and the added bonus of having your own lake to sit beside and read or simply watch the dragonflies and coypu accompanied by the sound of birdsong, was idyllic.

We can thoroughly recommend La Petite Maison, particularly for a couple. We often choose a property which is completely on its own but Lisa and Andy were the perfect hosts, friendly and accessible if needed but otherwise left us to enjoy our holiday as if it was our very own cottage and lake! Many thanks.

Lisa and Andy couldn't have made us feel more welcome, nothing was too much trouble. The property is beautifully equipped; the lake is a fantastic addition for wildlife watching. Would fully recommend to friends and family.

The Limousin is stunningly beautiful region of still lakes, fast flowing streams, gentle rolling valleys and forested mountains has been one of the best kept secrets in France. From the lovely old city of Limoges to the tiny hamlets scattered across the hills and forests, and the pure rivers and lakes, discover the friendliness and old world charm of one of the last remaining havens of the 'real France'.

As one of the lowest populated regions in France, the Limousin has largely escaped the onward march of 'progress' and retains some of the most unspoilt countryside in Europe. The Limousin is a region rich in history.. Dotted everywhere in the region you will find 12th. century churches, chateaux, cathedrals and awe inspiring architecture -a legacy of the mason farmers of the region - renowned throughout France and recent and sobering history at Oradour sur Glane, an entire town preserved in memory of its destruction and the execution of its inhabitants by a German panzer division in WWII.

The culture of the region remains largely intact, as does the traditional warmth of its people. Always welcoming to visitors and still retaining old fashioned courtesy and values. Village fetes abound, many of them dating back centuries and celebrating just about everything imaginable.

A visit to the Limousin is a little like walking back in time - understated, empty roads, full of surprises and sure to resurrect memories of what life used to be like in a less frantic world.

Haute Vienne derives its name from the river that runs though the department. Limoges famous for its porcelain is the regional capital. Here you can find a myriad of interesting shops as well as all the high street chains.

Nature is part of everyday life in Haute Vienne. Tourists visit in all seasons to enjoy the rolling landscapes, forests, lakes and rivers. Chestnuts, oaks, spruces and Douglas fir all line the landscape of this breathtaking department, while picturesque villages and stunning castles grow from the granite landscape.

Haute Vienne has many well preserved historic buildings such as the Abbeys at Solignac and Châteauponsac, or the castles of Châlus, Châlucet, Montbrun and Rochechouart. Further a field the department is the breathtakingly moving town of Oradour sur Glane, a permanent memorial to man's inhumanity to man.

There are over 2,000 km of marked paths for walking and rambling, The Haute Vienne is an angler's dream with both running and still waters plentiful in rivers, lakes and ponds, there are around 7,000 km of waterways, of which 6,700 km are 1st class.

Dournazac is a small village in the Haute-Vienne department of the Limousin region of south-west France which is notable for its beautiful 15th century castle, Château Montbrun. The village is also famed for its delightful October Chestnut Fair which takes place every year on the last Sunday in October, which transforms this sleepy little place into a blaze of colour, with aromas of roasting chestnuts and a vibrant atmosphere.

Meanwhile the village offers shops, services and a very popular bar restaurant, with a lovely leisure lake nearby too.

Tour de France - Limoges has a stage start and end this summer just 30 mins away
