Fully refurbished and newly decorated in June 2013, you will find every luxury and convenient amenity in this holiday rental: fully stocked kitchen; microwave oven, kettle, full range with oven and 4- top electric stove. New upgraded mattresses that sleep 4 comfortably.
Our apartment is located on the Rue du Vieux Chateu, one of the most historic and oldest streets in Menton. Our building is hundreds of years old and exudes charm. The building is in good condition for its age as the apartments have been fully refurbished. We are on the top floor (second floor).
The Old Town of Menton is home to many fine restaurants, bars, water activities, museums and a casino. The Plage des Sablettes, Menton's only sandy beach, is located directly in front of our apartment.
The Mediterranean Sea glistens its many shades of blue at different times of the day. Whether you are going to the beach or walking to dinner at one of the many fine restaurants, Menton has it all!
Thanks to a beneficial subtropical micro climate (316 sunny days a year), winter is practically unknown in Menton. Therefore, you can enjoy a beautiful sea and the nearby sunny mountains all year round.
Menton is on the borders of Italy, the Principality of Monaco and the Comté de Nice. Paradise of gardens, Menton is also a unique display of architecture. These have molded this “Secret Riviera” paradise where you can walk in the footsteps of famous names.
From Queen Victoria to Jean Cocteau, countless people have come to this magical setting to re-kindle the authentic.
The scents, colours and tranquillity, but also the diversity of the activities that can be practice here throughout the year, make Menton “The Pearl of France”, as stated by the geographer Élysée Reclus.
Moreover, the town is the first town of the Alpes-Maritimes to receive the designation “City of Art and History”. Menton is the citrus capital of France and its world renowned Fete du Citron in late February is a 3 week festival celebrating all things citrus!
Menton is a great romantic getaway, a place to relax and relish the old world charm and quiet serenity of the French Riviera.
We fell in love with Menton over our several trips here. There is so much to do. The botanical gardens, the restaurants, the beach, and the culture. We also fell in love with the people. They are gentle, they are very courteous to us when we speak our less than perfect French. There is also a nice mixture of French and Italian culture so the food choices are superb. We looked at several properties and we liked some of them. But when we walked into what is now our apartment, our jaws literally dropped with amazement. It was love at first sight.
The apartment exudes charm. From the ceilings, and arches to the thick concrete textured walls, you know you are in an historic building. The location and view are the two top benefits. You absolutely do not need a car in the the Old Town. You can take an express bus from the Nice airport or the train from Nice. Both are a few blocks away when you arrive. The view of the sea is amazing. Since we are on the top floor, you can see for miles and miles and just see water and mountains in your view. This makes it a special getaway for us and for our friends. We recently renovated the windows and doors with modern, double pane glass to enhance a quiet experience indoors. The windows are very large and allow for great Mediterranean breezes from the sea.
Menton is an amazing city. The most incredible views of the sea and weather make this a relaxing vacation experience. Menton is sunny and warm in the summer and sunny and cool in the winter. We have 316 days of sunshine every year!
There are great restaurants featuring both French and Italian cuisines. You can also find delicious Indian, Greek, Moroccan and Asian Cuisine. There are several botanical gardens which we really enjoy visiting. The new Jean Cocteau museum is steps from our home. We enjoy hanging out at the Place de Cap and it's many restaurants. The Rue Pietone provides wonderful shopping convenient to our apartment. You can jump on the train to Cinqua Terra, a beautiful 5-town city in Italy. San Remo is not far away. You can jog to Monte Carlo or take the bus from Menton to any destination on the French Riviera. You will never be bored in Menton. We enjoy walking through the medieval city and it's many interesting architectural gems.
The beach is right in front of our apartment. The sand is soft and the water is deliciously refreshing.
The people in Menton are warm and friendly. They have both French and Italian lineage which creates a very charming and lovely group of locals. They are patient if your French is not perfect and will revert to Italian or English if they see you struggling with the language. The folks here bend over backwards to make you feel at home in their beautiful city.
The property was clean and well maintained. The owner provided good customer service.
I would recommend this property to friends and relatives.
The local restaurants in the old town were fantastic. The Basilica on the doorstep was very impressive and oozed with architectural history.
A wonderful apartment in a beautiful part of the old town, overlooking the Menton beach and harbour to the east. Spectacular views, cosy environment. This was our second stay here and we will certainly be back as we feel very much at home by now. Do explore the old town, especially following the routes towards the cemetery or Rue Longue heading away from the hustle and bustle of the centre.
This place is perfect for a restful, peaceful holiday where you can put your feet up, enjoy a book and a glass of wine while looking at the gorgeous views. We even started feeling a bit local-people on the street say 'bonjour' to you and smile. When you feel like a bite, the town's restaurants and excellent food market (open 9-1 / 7 days a week) cannot disappoint. For a bit of culture, try the Jean Cocteau museum or the town's excellent prehistoric museum.
Checking in and out was easy, the apartment was clean and we did our best to leave it like that when we left. Getting a taxi from the Menton train station to Place de la Concepcion (which is as close as you can get to the apartment) was bit of a problem, as some taxi drivers don't want to bother with the steep and narrow streets of the old town. When we checked out we rang a taxi (with the help of the owners' agent Catherine who negotiated the finer details) and it arrived to the little square no problem.
If only we had more time....
We have heard that Menton was Pearl of France - it couldn't be more true! This was our first time in Menton and we loved it. The apartment is located in the old town - just near the beach and all main attractions.
We have received a very warm welcome from the owner's agents and plenty of tips from the owners where to visit, where to eat, etc. The apartment was extremely clean, very well looked after and it was perfect for all our needs.
We would strongly recommend this apartment and location to anyone considering a stay in this area. And we will return again soon.
Our family of 4, kids 8 & 11, has just returned from a fabulous holiday in this marvellous spot. In our opinion, the location of the apartment could not be bettered (but be advised that there are many steps to beach/town). As a result of its elevated position, the views from the apartment are fantastic & the flat is very light. The flat is also well presented, clean & contained most items we required, although a mirror in one of the bedrooms would have been very useful! Those who like to prepare many of their own meals should be aware that we needed to buy a number of utensils for the kitchen, but if you plan to eat out most of the time this would not be an issue - & there are plenty of restaurants to choose from in Menton.
Nicki, the owners’ agent, could not have been more helpful towards us, especially when, within 24 hours of arrival, we began to have plumbing problems. We had been told on arrival that to avoid problems we should not put toilet paper down the toilet, but use the bin, this we did. To cut a long story short, however, water soon started coming up into the shower, first from the kitchen sink, & then from the toilet waste, before it overflowed onto the floor. As a result, we moved out of the apartment into a hotel for one night until a plumber could get the water flowing properly again. We know plumbing issues happen in old properties (& as we don’t believe the issue has been fully resolved expect it will happen again) but were shocked by the lack of empathy displayed to us by the owners when we tried to obtain compensation for the two day disruption to our holiday, and the added expense of a night in a hotel. This was not a situation of our making, and we had quite a battle on our hands before we finally received the equivalent of one day of our stay.
For practical reasons we would not stay in the flat again - the 2nd bedroom has a double bed and our children are getting towards the end of being able to share a bed - using the sofa bed in the sitting room would not be easy as it would take over the room. Practical issues aside, the response to our situation regarding the plumbing is the thing which would make us most wary – it was the only negative aspect of our holiday. All that was required was an apology, & an immediate offer of compensation & this review need not have included mention of plumbing. Following our comments we doubt we’d be welcome again - but go & see for yourself – you will certainly not be disappointed by the views!
We were absolutely delighted with this property, its in a fantastic location with views to die for. We also had to work a little while we were on holidays and the free wifi service was very helpful.
Very clean property and helpful owners.
You will not regret staying in this lovely place! We will be coming back next year.
I visited Menton with my wife and two young children. The first thing to say is that there really is no substitute to basing yourself in Menton's Old Town. When you return 'home' each evening there is a certain smugness about being right at the heart of the historical centre. By virtue of this location, the apartment has a very quirky design - being split over three levels. The views from the living room and the kitchen - over the roof tops to the sea - were lovely and the sun rises were spectacular. The apartment is fitted out to a good standard and the owners were very attentive when we were sorting out the booking.
The apartment is not suitable for elderly and disabled people or those with small children as there are steep stairs in the old town and large stairs to the bathroom in the apartment.
