About Kenneth Lander
Yami, Yojibeth and Juan Diego lived here for many years. Minor, Yoji's and Juan Diego's dad passed away, and Ken and Yami were married about 8 years ago. We have been receiving guests here on the mountain for many years and have another VRBO as well 360208. Please check out the reviews for VRBO 360208 to get a sense of who we are. We love having folks enjoy our little town near Monteverde.
Kenneth Lander purchased this House in 1995
Why Kenneth Lander chose Sierra
One thing we have learned from hosting hundreds of travelers, the best part of the experience of Monteverde for them was living in as a part of a Costa Rican community for a few days and not feeling like a tourist. With Casa Tia Yami, you are close to all the attractions, but get to experience life as a Costa Rica would live it with all the conveniences of home.
What makes this House unique
This is not a rental property. It was the home of a wonderful Costa Rican family, and now it can be your home for a few days.
Outside only on the porch.
Max guests:4 (sleeps up to 3 adults)
100% refund for cancellations more than 30 days before check-in date. 50% refund for cancellations more than 14 days before check-in date.
Peaceful Mountain View Retreat
We loved our 2 night stay in Casa Yami. It was far enough away from the touristy Santa Elena to feel like you were living like a true Tico but close enough to drive to and from the cloud forest and other activities int he area. It had a well equipped kitchen that let us prepare our own meals (good because it is relatively remote and there is not a ton open at night). Short 30 or so minute drive to Monteverde Cloud Forest (I highly suggest you take the 606 route). There was no a/c but ceiling fans and screens on the windows (not always a given in CR) let in a cool breeze that kept the place comfortable. The patio was perfect for sipping a cold Imperial and it had ceiling fans too. We had touchy hot water the first night but I think that was more operator error than anything as the second night all 3 of us took hot showers no problem. Everywhere we stayed had similar touchy hot water but once you figure it out it isn't an issue. The view of the valley was stunning. Yami was amazing. We had planned to use the laundry facilities on the farm (a 5-10 minute drive away) but our schedule made that difficult. Yami took our dirty clothes after she led us to Casa Yami and we picked them up clean and neatly folded on our way out of town 2 days later. This being our 10th day on out trip we were running low on clothes and this was a lifesaver. The communication with Ken was perfect and though he was on a trip out of town he made sure to stay in contact via email and text and we spoke on the phone when we arrived at the farm. All in all a wonderful place to stay in the Monteverde area.
Monteverde - Casa
We really enjoyed our stay. Ken made us all feel welcome and at home. He even let us walk around on their family farm. It's a beautiful place and I highly recommend it for a peaceful getaway. All the best - David
Absolutely wonderful, all I hoped it would be and more
We felt as if the owners took us in and made us family. The entire family were there to help us with anything we needed. The area around this property is magnificent, as is the experience of it's wonderful people.
Great for a couple!
A cute little house with a terrific view! Thanks to Kenneth and Yami for being such wonderful hosts. The house was perfect for us!.
Cute castita with an amazing view
You can see the gulf of Nicoya from a chair on the porch! A few meters away is a coffee house where the tour busses stop to look off the deck at the word class view of the whole of the gulf! Simply amazing. Ken is great with directions and suggestions for where to go and what to do. Hanging bridges, hiking, zip line, coffee plantation tour and much more. We picked up some groceries and had fun cooking some meals. Also very close by are some places to eat out. The stars at night are great because of no ambient light and the view down the mountain is great because of all the lights from towns far away! This is such a great place to explore from as a home base. Just next door is a horse with a colt! This is a safe place to stay in the mountains! We loved staying here and will be back.
Amazing location and wonderful hosts
My husband and I were so impressed with this beautiful home. You can definitely see the love and care put into each detail of this house. The location is great if you want to hang in Monteverde for a few days and Ken gave great advice on things to see and do in the area. The shower is amazing and the kitchen is well equipped (we used it for meals several times). We highly, highly recommend staying in this property.
Near Monteverde. San Rafael de Abangares (or San Rafael Despacio) is a little town of 600 people just outside of the Monteverde/Santa Elena area about 20 minutes from the tourist activities. A typical Costa Rican town with a few churches, a couple of "pulperias" or small grocery stores, a couple of bars and family restaurants and lots of Costa Rican charm and "Pura Vida".
