We can find no fault with anything - even the workers digging up the road outside were very helpful and pleasant. We shall go again to this area if we get vthe chance.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind review. They didn't tell me that supplying me with a new water metre was going to involve digging the road up but, thankfully, it is all done now!

Lovely spacious house in a beautiful location.

  • 5 of 5

We loved our two weeks here, fabulous house in a great location. We came here with our three grown up daughters and ten year old son. The house has everything that a family of six could need for two weeks - two bathrooms, lovely well-equipped kitchen, spacious living area perfect for relaxing in after a day out and a lovely big garden. We also loved the free wifi and the DVD player. There are loads of books available for all that holiday reading. Also it has a lovely sun room and the whole house is well maintained with a lovely French feel to it. The location is fabulous for exploring the Morbihan area.

The area itself is amazing and we never travelled further than 40 miles to anywhere, lovely French towns and villages with great markets and outdoor concerts and festivals. Our favourite beach was at Carnac, less than an hour away ,at Saint Colomban. We also loved the annual free out-door photo exhibition at La Gacilly, the home of Yves Rocher.

Malestroit itself is a really lovely little town with great restaurants and fabulous coffee! We loved the creperie in the Place Du Bouffay and also our morning coffee with the locals and at the end of two weeks we felt like one of them! We always tried speaking in French and they were so patient and lovely. It was great to be able to walk down to the local boulangerie and buy croissants for breakfast and a little treat for tea-time!

Also on both Friday nights there was a free outdoor concert in the square which we loved, the atmosphere was great.

The house is really close to all local amenities, less than five minutes walk to "casino" and "Carrefour" and a couple of minutes drive to the "Super U". Also we were 5 minutes walk from the local cinema and that was great, we really loved going there to see the latest French film in a very quaint French setting!

The town has lovely riverside walks and a nice little park that my ten year old enjoyed. The weather was also a real bonus, lovely sunshine every day and the house is perfect for alfresco dining with a great seated patio area.

It was lovely to meet Linda and we are very grateful for her to letting out her lovely home to us for the two weeks - thank you. She is a lovely lady and I enjoyed my little chats with her.

I would thoroughly recommend this house and this area to anyone who loves France as much as we do - and if you've not been to Brittany before, you will love in love with the area if you come here. It's fantastic.

The beautiful Chat Noir!

  • 5 of 5

For those of you planning your next French holiday, stop now & book Le Chat Noir!Having spent a week here in July with elderly parents and our dog I cannot recommend this beautiful house enough. If you were to buy your perfect home in France, this would be it!. The owner has made every effort to make you feel comfortable, relaxed and everything is perfectly clean & tidy. The decor is calming, the sun room is fantastic for chilling out, reading a good book (and dozing if I'm honest!). The town is within easy walking distance and has just enough going on without it being too busy. It is very pretty with so much to see and lots of great walks along the canal. There are several wonderful restaurants with varying prices, we ate in several & loved each one. There is a great little bar on the square, a great stop off for a cheeky Kir Breton .The house is in a perfect spot for exploring too, we visited lots of areas (beautiful coasts & towns everywhere), I would highly advise you to stay here. We've travelled around France a lot and haven't stayed yet in a house this pretty with so much on it's doorstep! Enjoy!

Le Chat Noir

  • 4 of 5

We stayed at Le Chat Noir in June, the owner Linda was extremely helpful and kind. It is a lovely house situated in an ideal location. It is very well equipped for a family stay with the accommodation spread over two floor, a lovely sun room and garden.

The small old town of Malestroit is very interesting, situated on the Nantes/Brest Canal it is ideal for long canal walks, plenty of inexpensive good restaurants and supermarkets. There is just so much to see around and about this town as well visiting the attractions of Brittany.

Owner's Response: I'm so pleased that you enjoyed your stay. My garden has coped with a very strange summer - either saturated and beaten down by heavy rain, or sun-bleached and parched by soaring temperatures, so I am just grateful it was still a pleasant place for my visitors to enjoy. Most people love just wandering around the old centre of Malestroit; and really appreciate the fact that they can eat out and enjoy a drink or two without having to use the car to get back home.

Malestroit, known as 'The Pearl of the Oust' is a 'Petite Cite de Caractere' situated on the banks of the River Oust and the Nantes-Brest canal. Surrounded by beautiful countryside, this medieval town is ideally sited as a base from which to explore the Morbihan area. The coast is 25 minutes drive away and there is a lake for swimming at the renowned village of Rochfort en Terre, which is just 10 minutes away. This region is ideal for walking, cycling, fishing or exploring the beautifully preserved towns and villages surrounding the Gulf of Morbihan. There is a good choice of lovely uncrowded soft sandy beaches as well as castles and chateaux to visit. Malestroit itself is bustling market town with plenty of shops, restaurants and cafes. On Friday evenings in summer there is a free concert in the main square.
