Overview

Photos and Description of this 5 bedroom holiday home in Big Sky - Low Dog Lodge

Log Cabin, 5 Bedrooms + Loft , 3 Baths, (Sleeps 12)

Welcome to Low Dog Lodge...LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION!! You will not find a better ski-in ski-out location in Big Sky. Walk out the door, strap on your skis and go ski directly to the Thunderwolf High speed Quad. Low Dog Lodge is a Log Home with four bedrooms, a loft, and three full baths. This home has a warm and rustic Montana decor. It is located at the end of a cul-de-sac with lots of privacy and great views of Beehive Basin and Spanish Peaks. It is one of the 'true' Ski In / Ski Out homes in Big Sky. You can walk to the lodge at the base of Big Sky Resort with its restaurants, bars, shops and ski/board rentals. You won't find a better location in Big Sky during the summer or winter. The home is very private so you won't have any problems feeling like your in the middle of the wilderness, yet close to everything..

We have just updated the home to include 3 king guest bedrooms (one with private bath), 1 queen guest bedroom, and 1 bunk room that has two sets of log bunk beds that are extra long to easily accommodate adults. There is also an open loft on the third floor that has a queen sofa bed and a large big screen TV. Let the kids watch the big screen TV in the loft using DirecTV or DVD's or they can play some of the board games we have available. There is also an additional TV and DVD player in the comfortable great room on the main level. For a little romance or warmth, load up the large Montana Mossy rock fireplace in the great room. We are happy to supply logs, because the experience just isn't the same until you get to sit by the fire and talk about the wonderful adventures of the day.

The kitchen features a new double range/oven, dishwasher, microwave and refrigerator. The kitchen counter tops are granite and the island bar has seating for four, so you can accommodate even more guests for dinner, or sip on a drink and supervise the cooks in the kitchen before dinner. The large dining room table seats 8 guests and can be extended to seat 10 or more.

After a hard day on the slopes, or a summer afternoon of hiking, river rafting or golf, come back and relax in your own private hot tub that seats 6-8 people comfortably. Located on the ground floor, it has a great view of the valley with no homes in sight.

We've built a new heated entry and ski room on the ground floor. It offers a convenient place to store all your gear and suit up every day before stepping outside. We think you'll find it a great addition to home.

In addition to skiing and snow boarding, just head outside to find for some of the best hiking and snow shoeing in Big Sky. You're also only a short drive to some of the best golf and fishing that Montana has to offer. The kids (and adults) will love the great sledding just outside and we offer a couple of sleds in the garage so you can give it a try.

About Low Dog Lodge Reservations

We share a passion for travel that offers us the opportunity to ski & snowboard all over the world - USA, Japan, Europe, New Zealand, Chile, etc. We love Montana year-round, but think the world class skiing in Big Sky can't be beat! What started out as vacations to Montana in the 90's, turned into making Bozeman home for a few years, before finally deciding to buy a home of our own in Big Sky that we can share with family & friends. We take pride in our home and hope our guests enjoy it enough to come back again and again.

Low Dog Lodge Reservations purchased this house in 2012

Why Low Dog Lodge Reservations chose Big Sky

We selected this beautiful log home because of its great ski access, but also because it really has a great Montana feel. It's large enough to accommodate a big group, but cozy enough to really feel like a home. The location at the base of Andesite mountain on a private, dead-end road provides fantastic ski-in & ski-out access. It's only a short walk or drive to all the offerings at the mountain mall complex, but feels very secluded at the same time.

Skiing in Big Sky is great since there are no lift lines to speak of and it has the largest acreage of ski-able terrain in the USA. Having a true ski-in/ski-out home is the only way to go with a large family or group that starts and stops their ski day at different times. Less than an hour's drive from either Bozeman or Yellowstone makes it the perfect location for either Summer or Winter activities. We love the home and hope you will too!

What makes this house unique

One of the few log homes on the mountain with great ski-in & ski-out access. Plenty of privacy, yet only a short walk to the restaurants & shopping in the Big Sky Mountain Village. Great views of Beehive Canyon off the large wrap-around deck or from the outdoor hot tub (great after a hard day of skiing!). In the summer, you'll be able to see plenty of animals including bears, moose, deer and elk right around the home and we have great hiking trails right out the front door.

Guestbook comments from the manager

Our family thoroughly enjyed your home last winter and the skiing was the best I have experienced in years with lots of new snow. The hot tub hit the spot and we used it every day after skiing. The ability to ski directly to Thunderwolf lift really was convenient so the kids could start skiing when they wanted and the adults could start after we had limbered up. We were very pleasantly surprised and impressed with the new furnishings you installed since last year. Very cozy and warm. Wish there was much snow as last year, but we still had a great time. we will be back

5 Stars!

  • 5 of 5

We are a group of seven geriatric males who have gotten together on an annual ski trip for the past 20 years. The consensus view was that this is the absolute best accommodation we have had. Size, furnishings, appearance, cleanliness, facilities/utilities were all first rate. Ski-in/ski-out, and just minutes from the market/village shops, if we do Big Sky again we won't waste time looking anywhere else.

Fantastic reunion location!

  • 5 of 5

Booked at Low Dog over Super Bowl weekend. Group of Army veterans and a few friends had a great trip with second to none accommodations. We were first on the lift 3 days in a row( probably because our house was the closest)! More than enough room for the 10 people that were there. Would recommend this location to any and all.

Thanks Team Low Dog!!!

A Stunning Lodge in a beautiful location with awesome terrain.

  • 5 of 5

Myself and five friends from all over the UK were planning 10 days of skiing/snowboarding somewhere in North America and I was considering Big Sky due to the reviews of empty trails, lack of lift lines and good extensive terrain. I found Low Dog Lodge by accident while looking around google maps, I saw the dot, clicked on it and was take to the website. Having looked at the photos of the lodge my decision was made, Big Sky it was so I booked it up.

When we arrived I can honestly say the Lodge exceeded my expectations, beautifully appointed and very comfortable and spacious. The lodge offers three stunning king sized rooms one with a very high quality en suite, a very comfortable queen sized room and a bunk room with two very solid and comfortable bunks beds in it offering four full size adult single beds. The lodge also has a well stocked kitchen with all the sundries needed to cook proper meals. The hot tub is very large with vigorous massage jets to work the muscles loose after a day of hammering the off piste.

The lodge is set right at the end of low dog road and from the upstairs deck, no other properties can be seen, only stunning views of the forest and mountains. The ski out is right outside the door, the ski in is either down low dog road or for the more confident, via a somewhat narrow chute between the trees from a few black runs, a nice way back to the lodge at the end of the day,, just keep a little leg strength in reserve if you want to run War Dance (double black diamond) back in!!

I hired a pair of 4WD full size SUVs for the trip from Bozeman airport and they worked very well for fitting all of our kit in. 4WD is a good bet as although the main roads are well cleared, Low Dog Road itself is a bit steep and the driveway to the lodge although short is pretty steep so a heavily loaded town car may struggle to get up it.

Big Sky itself is awesome. Terrain for all types from beginner slopes to terrifyingly steep chutes, from wide open high speed trails to extensive gladed woodland. The lack of people there was stunning, many times we ran a trail to the bottom and caught the lift back up without passing any other people except the lift operators.

Don't go there expecting banging nightlife though as it is a very low key resort, but if massive empty terrain, awesome snow conditions and friendly people are your thing, then I'd put Big Sky at the top of the list and I'd strongly recommend the Low Dog Lodge for an upmarket stay there.

Andy

Exceptional Lodge Accomodation - Ski in ski out

  • 5 of 5

What can say.. The property was amazing, such a beautiful street just a minute from the highway and a 5 minute walk down the from the main resort (if you don't want to strap/click on/in and take the perfect cat track down to the chair!). The place was immaculately clean with all the details of staying at a 5 star hotel and much to our surprise newly renovated showers with plenty of space very different from the pictures in a positive way. The big cowboy boot sign on the trail was a nice touch to lead us back to the front door at the end of a very satisfying day of perfect snow conditions on the mountain. Such a greatproperty with plenty of room for everyone, a modern and well equipped kitchen, large hot tub (to sooth those legs) and recycling friendly. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to experience a private and beautiful ski lodge/chalet in BigSky. Looking to book again soon, it looks amazing in the summer!

Perfect Family Vacation!

  • 5 of 5

Our experience at Low Dog Lodge in Big Sky could not have been better. We were an adult family of 5 (plus 3 significant others) - some of us love to ski and some of us love to hang out and cook. And EVERYONE was happy!! Thunderwolf Chair (a quick downhill ski from the door of the house) was the perfect way for us to start our mornings. We had more than enough room to sleep everyone comfortably and the beds were great. We cooked like mad in the very well equipped kitchen and enjoyed the hottub. Everything was VERY clean. We plan on coming back.

Excellent Accommodations - Beautiful Place to Stay, As Advertised

  • 5 of 5

My law partner and I flew our kids to Montana to visit Yellowstone National Park and the Grand Tetons. We needed to find a place that was comfortable for two families. We needed a kitchen, lots of bedrooms, a washer and dryer, and a hot tub! Low Dog Lodge was perfect for us. Big Sky offered several places nearby for a great breakfast or dinner. Everything was clean and modern. Simply put, Low Dog Lodge was "as advertised." We had a blast . No complaints at all. The owner and property manager were very helpful and responsive.
