About the property

The Lodge is a unique, spectacular mountaintop haven, crowning the 215 acre Bearwallow Mountain Ranch. At 4000 feet the temperature and pleasant breeze offers the ultimate mountain experience. Enjoy the stunning mountain views and acres of manicured meadows surrounding the lodge. Amble along the miles of roadways, paths, and marked hiking trails on the Ranch enjoying the forest, landscape, and clear mountain air. Hidden down a 3/4 mile private rustic drive and far from neighbors, The Lodge is the perfect secluded haven yet accessible to all the amazing attractions of this beautiful area.

Temperatures are very cool at night and the daytime stays comfortable and 6-8 degrees cooler than the lower elevations of Asheville and Hendersonville. 15 miles or less to Biltmore house, Chimney Rock, Asheville, Lake Lure, and the Blue Ridge Parkway make it ideal for taking in the surrounding area and then sinking back into the quiet comfort and peace of this amazing Ranch.

The Lodge is a vintage, great-timbered apple barn lovingly converted into a modern retreat that retains its mountain heritage and charm. Reclaimed wide plank flooring, historic brick, massive wooden beams reaching up to a 27 foot ceiling, and touches of days gone by offer the sense of gentler time. Yet along with the past, you will find that The Lodge's rustic elegance comes with all the modern conveniences.

Every chef's desire is here in the 30 foot galley style kitchen. With 12 foot chef's counter - it makes cooking for a crowd a breeze and plenty of room for help in the kitchen. Move the kitchen outside to your 6 foot grill area.

The timber frame interior with rough-sawn cedar walls, antique brick, and spacious living area provides for a large number of people but with multiple groupings of intimate seating. Italian leather furniture and sprawling custom seating appoint the living space with elegance and comfort.

The eight bedrooms are thoughtfully furnished and decorated with your comfort in mind. Antique floors, warm woods, and giant -beamed ceilings offer character to each bedroom. Outdoor living is at its ultimate at The Lodge. With a 1,800 square foot main deck overlooking the meadows and mountains and total 2,800 square feet of decks on five levels, you will find your favorite spot to join the crowd or relax in quietude. Relax under the pergola, soak up the sun in the lounge chairs, or kick back under the covered seating enjoying the shade, or perhaps rain on the tin roof. The east deck offers a wonderful dining area for a scenic sunrise breakfast or supper under the stars with a 30 mile view. Fourteen feet up on the second floor, the "Sunset Deck" is the perfect place to tuck away alone with a book, nap, or enjoy the display of vibrant color as the night approaches.

The Lodge is a place of charm, peace, and natural beauty. Its unique features and amenities will provide you with a vacation everyone will treasure for years to come.

NOTE: Our seclusion creates an obundance of wildlife experiences. Black Bears, Deer, Wild Turkey, Two Golden Eagles, Foxes, Coyote's, Bobcats etc... wander through the property at will. Due to this, please understand that we do not allow pets.

Simply Amazing!

  • 5 of 5

Our family absolutely loved our stay at the BearWallow Ranch! We loved the seclusion and the beauty of the location. It was so peaceful sitting out on the deck by the firepit with a drink in hand, overlooking the mountains and watching bears eating in the distance surrounded by fireflies. Then doing it all again the next day, drinking our morning coffee, watching the sun come up over the Smokey Mountains. I mean life couldn’t get any better than that! There are so many things to do there, hiking, exploring the property, relaxing in the hot tub, outdoor games, and just plain sitting out on the deck relaxing! The house was beautiful and clean. We loved the open concept. The house is big enough to fit a couple of small families. We were surprised by how well stocked the kitchen was with dishes, pots & pans, and bakeware. We had brought a couple of large stockpots since we were cooking large meals for 14 people. I would recommend bringing a few extra pots/pans if you plan on cooking large meals for a lot of people, but besides that, the kitchen had everything we needed. Bring food supplies with you when you arrive. There are stores in the area, but it is a 35+ minute drive in either direction. We actually enjoyed taking trips down the mountain into town because the drive is beautiful, curvy and fun. We even got to see wild peacocks on our trip back to the lodge one day, it was an incredible experience!

Our party had a lot of kids of different ages. The site did mention the property is not recommended for young children, but they definitely enjoyed their time there. If you are bringing young children, be prepared that the steps are a bit narrow and the rooms have open areas towards the top of the ceiling for ventilation. You do have full privacy, but you can hear everything going on in the house. It didn’t bother us adults one bit, but it does make nap time a bit of a challenge for small children.

The greatest part of our visit was how accommodating and kind, Tim and his family have been to us prior to, during and after our visit. Tim’s directions to the property were so detailed and accurate, it made getting there a breeze. Tim is very down to earth, friendly, and so patient that he took the time to show each of us around the property, while answering every question we had. We can’t wait for our next visit and we highly recommend you visiting the BearWallow Ranch, to enjoy the beauty of nature and alone time with friends and family.

Quiet Mountain Retreat with a Relaxing Country Scene

  • 5 of 5

The lodge's kitchen, dining and family area is large so that we never felt crowded. The family gathered on the wrap around porch which provided plenty of space for an easy relaxing time. An upstairs balcony provides quiet solitude for reading and a relaxing atmosphere.

The property met our expectations from the description on Home Away.

Driving directions from owner gave plenty of markers to locate the property. Property is centrally located to Hendersonville, Ashville, Lake Lure and Chimney Rock State Park. Driving time is 30 to 45 minutes to each.

Owner gave suggestions of things to do in the area. Owner is cooperative and responded to any concerns while we were there.

We recommend this property to others for a special event or a relaxing vacation.

Amazing property with stunning views!

  • 5 of 5

We were a family group of 9 plus 3 kids and found the property and house to be a good fit. There was ample space and amenities. The deck is where you will want to spend most of your time, It's large with ample seating for a large group. We loved using the large grill, hot tub and fire pit. The weather was great, there are numerous hiking trails nearby and downtown is about 30 min drive. The owners Tim and Dina were welcoming and very gracious. They offered to drive and get us groceries the first night when our group arrived late. They also left a few small gifts for the two birthdays in our group. We would love to return and Bearwallow Mountain Ranch will be on our list!

amazing unique mountain experience

  • 5 of 5

This place is truly one of a kind and I would absolutely recommend it to anybody looking for a true mountain experience with amazing views and a quaint, homey feel in the lodge that’s perfect for large families/friend groups.

My husband and I absolutely love the Bearwallow trail at the top of Bearwallow mountain (highly recommend), so when we saw this place right next to the trailhead, we were really excited to rent and use as a wedding venue for a small, 40-person wedding ceremony/reception in April. We did an outdoor ceremony on the big rock that the deck overlooks, which provided an amazing mountain view backdrop. The massive deck that surrounds the lodge is perfect for hanging out or hosting a party, while the newly renovated lodge interior is an awesome huge space to hangout inside.

My side of the family stayed at the lodge, and the city slickers had a great time! The driveway was a little bit of an issue for our families, but after their third or fourth time up, they got used to it. There are 8 rooms in the lodge itself, all are a little small but are fitted with comfortable beds, so certainly got the job done for us. At the end of our stay I think we were all left wanting another night or two as there is so much to explore around the property itself.

The owner’s Tim and Dina are absolutely awesome people who were a great help in planning our wedding and addressing any questions/concerns we had. They have so many exciting projects going on at the property right now that this place is sure to be a treasure for a long time to come. We will most certainly bring the family back within the next few years as I know this place will only continue to improve.

Great weekend getaway for friends

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I recently celebrated her 30th birthday with family and friends at Bearwallow Mountain. Tim and his wife met us at check in, not only to give us the keys, but also to show us around the property and things to do. There is plenty of space inside for relaxation and for a big dinner. We honestly spent most of our time outside enjoying the views however. Huge amount of deck space outside plus plenty of hiking and outdoor activities available.

Excellent property for a large group looking for a secluded house.

  • 5 of 5

We were a group of 12 guys getting away for a long weekend, and this place was great. Plenty of room for us to have some private space, as well as a sizeable communal area. Most impressively, the property offered more hiking trails and outdoor space than we knew what to do with. Tim and his Family were exceptional hosts, and went out of their way to ensure we had a good weekend. I would definitely recommend this place to a friend, and would stay here again.
