Restored Stone Barn on Farm on Wild Atlantic Way, close to sea and beach

Bedrooms 2
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 3 - 7 nights

Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday cottage in Ireland - Teach na mBo, Inisfail Farm,

2 bedroom, 2 en-suite barn sleeps 2-4 with rural and mountain views

Teach na mBo is in a beautiful part of the Connemara National Park? The Wild Atlantic Way runs down our small lane to our local pier where we have one of the best views out to the Aran Islands and the cliffs of Moher.

Our traditional, 2 bedroom cottage, situated on our small working farm, combines the traditional cosiness of a thick-walled stone cottage with all the requirements of modern home living - including WiFi.

The main living area is open-plan with wooden floors, beams and a turf-burning stove which gives off the tantalising smell of Connemara. Turf (peat) is provided. Patio doors open out onto the small paved walkway to the house and give views of the shared garden and out towards fields bounded by the traditional stone walls found in this part of Ireland.

The main living space also includes a dining table seating four. Our fully equipped, contemporary kitchen area has granite worktops and the integrated appliances you would expect from a home of this quality, including hob, fan- oven, microwave, and dishwasher. A comfortable sofa, chairs and lovely soft furnishings complete the look. A small flat-screen TV is provided with satellite freeview channels, Irish channels and a dvd/blueray player.

The wooden floor is carried through to Bedroom 1, which has a traditional cast-iron framed, Kingsize bed with hotel quality mattress, topper and all bedding. There are plenty of built-in wardrobes and a hotel-style tiled, large en-suite with bath and large, separate shower.

Bedroom 2 is accessed via a short flight of stone steps down to a twin room - again with high quality soft furnishings and bedding. This room also has a hotel-style, tiled en-suite shower room.

There is also a US-style laundry cupboard housing a new washing machine and separate condenser dryer.

Outside there is a dedicated parking space and extra parking in the shared farm yard - access to a garden, a small paved area, a BBQ and outside eating space with table and chairs.

We have aimed to provide a home-from-home and you are welcome to help yourself to anything else you might need from our garage which contains a shared table tennis table. If available you can borrow stuff for the beach - chairs, portable BBQ, fishing nets for rock-pooling - just help yourself.

Le cottage idéal !

  • 5 of 5

Fabulous barn in a perfect location for exploring the wild Atlantic way

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Teach na mBo for three nights in April and settled in as soon as we arrived! The barn is homely, clean and tidy and well equipped to make for a very comfortable stay.

Janet and Michael were lovely hosts, even kindly driving us into Galway to collect our rental car on the Saturday morning. Nothing was too much trouble.

It's a gorgeous part of the world, and we loved exploring with the barn as our base. Things not to be missed: the Diving Platform at Salthill (chilly but worth braving the height with a wet suit on). Galways fantastic array of pubs on a Friday night - busy and bustly with live music, lots of fun! Don't miss the yellow and blue one! Driving the Wild Atlantic Way up to Kylemore Abbey - stunning gardens, and amazing history. Working out how to light the peat stove at the barn. The thatched pub near Teach na mBo - cosy, traditional and the perfect place for a Guinness upon arrival. We stopped upon Janet's recommendation at Kinvara on the way back to Shannon airport - a little coastal village with pubs and shops, lovely way to break up the journey.

Thank you again for a fantastic stay - we hope to come back and stay again!

Owner's Response: We love it when our visitors enjoy this lovely part of Ireland as much as we do but even we haven't braved the diving platform in April! Thank you for your kind words and we hope to see you again.

My cousins and I stayed for a few days last week and had the most amazing time. The cottage was perfect for us and we found it to be exactly as advertised. Bernie, the home caretaker, stopped for a visit one evening and was just charming. She suggested a visit to the smallest of the Aran Islands, Inisheer. It was definitely a highlight of our trip. If you go to the island, take a taxi ride with Stephen, and a buggy ride with his son, Thomas. Wonderful! We also took a day trip to Clifden as recommended by a local and thoroughly enjoyed our day. Your stay must also include a visit to the local pub, Tir na Nog. The owner is Kathleen and she is incredible!

The only "even better" recommendations we would share for the cottage would be general instructions for the showers, washer & dryer. Coming from the USA, we found these to be different than we were used to. There is a switch to turn the showers on outside the bathrooms. Once you know this, the showers were great! We also weren't used to manually adjusting the cycles for the washer or the need to empty the water container for the dryer. They worked perfectly once we figured this out.

Owner's Response: Our local area is truly lovely and it's great when visitors share the trips they particularly liked. We will definitely update our 'house book' to include more details on the use of the equipment in the cottage as we don't want our visitors struggling to use them.

Perfect Honeymoon Get-Away

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed in this lovely cottage on our honeymoon in November and haven't stopped thinking about it since! Rustic on the outside but cozy, clean, and well-furnished (with wifi!) on the inside, this cottage was exactly what we were looking for. We enjoyed the luxuries of a nice bathroom, well-stocked kitchen, and good heating system, while also getting to enjoy the simple comforts such as the wood-burning stove. We also loved Janet's DVD collection! It was lovely staying somewhere relatively tucked-away and we enjoyed walking around the area, seeing other farms and cows nearby. Additionally, the cottage is close to several small towns with great dining (Janet had a great list of recommendations), not to mention a short drive from Galway! It's also a great starting point for exploring Connemara and other spots in Western Ireland. If we ever get the chance to revisit the area, we will certainly hope to stay here again!

Gezellig en ruim cottage

  • 4 of 5

Very clean, rustically modern and well maintained.

  • 4 of 5

Working with Janet through e-mail was easy. Pretty rural setting. The picture on line doesn't show that there is a house almost adjacent to the rental. There was no one on site during our visit, and the cows were distant. Easy and pleasant walk to the shore - not a beach. Quick drive to the Aran ferry. Plenty of room for two couples. We enjoyed the cozy peat fireplace each of the four evenings we were there. Kitchen supplies were adequate, though pretty basic. We cooked in three nights but took Janet's recommendation on Michael O'Grady's place for the fourth and had a marvelous meal with great service. For those with multiple wifi devices, it took us a while to figure out that the provided portable wifi unit will only work with a maximum of 4 connected devices at a time.

Owner's Response: We are very pleased you enjoyed the cottage and were sorry not to meet you. The cottage is available all year round and so sometimes it works that neither we, or Bernie who looks after the cottage can be there but we always ensure that our high standards of comfort, warmth and cleanliness are maintained and your holiday is not affected. We work hard to make sure we exceed our guests' expectations and explain on booking that we have limited wireless wifi. We aim to get the best signal available , and use the same system ourselves in the farmhouse. This is via a pre-pay wireless dongle which supports 4 devices at once (one for each guest). We cover the cost and there is no charge to guests. The farm is a cattle farm all year round. Like other local farmers our land is spread around the village and down towards the sea. The farmland here is of poor quality, wet and boggy, and the cattle must be moved around constantly, particularly when it's wet. So sometimes they are in the fields around the main farmhouse and sometimes they are in other fields nearby. They are indoors in a nearby barn in the winter. This summer we had guests who helped move the cattle between fields and bottle fed the calves - it just depends where they are and what time of year you visit.
